It sounds really cool! I haven't been able to see it yet, but it is super cool that they used clips from MacGyver on the Mythbusters show. I was wondering if they would be able to get the rights to do that. That's one of the things I had hoped they would be able to do. Awesome!
Now, what would be super awesome is if they can actually get Richard Dean Anderson to guest star on a future episode when they tackle more MacGyverisms!
The article posted earlier stated that they were thinking of doing maybe 4 or 5 more episodes!!! Wow!
I was also thinking that this will be a great boost for MacGyver popularity. I think most of the folks on this site are pretty passionate fans of the show who grew up watching it in the '80s. And I'm sure there's some that are a bit more zealous than others.
And even some that didn't grow up watching the show but are just now discovering it.
And RDA is pretty well known by younger kids as the star of StarGate SG-1. I think that, coupled with MacGyver being released on DVD (and the various promotional ads aired on TV for the DVDs), and definitely RDA reprising his role as MacGyver in the SuperBowl commercial two years ago- not to mention the "Young MacGyver" pilot and talk of a possible MacGyver theatrical movie that was ultimately scrapped- and now this MacGyver special episode of Mythbusters-
all of these are adding up to give MacGyver a lot more exposure today. (And of course, there's all the various Youtube clips- homages or parodies and sites like "You the Man Now Dog" that help a lot. Even if some of the younger kids mainly remember MacGyver because he's the guy with the mullet and find that hysterically funny (because mullets are like, so uncool today

) - the point is, they still have some exposure to MacGyver.
(And for the record, I think mullets are pretty cool at any time- but then, I really don't care too much about hair.)
Anyway, I guess what all this was leading up to say was that given the recent success of other '80s action heroes being revived (Slyvester Stallone giving awesome performances in both the 6th. Rocky movie- "Rocky Balboa" and the 4th. Rambo movie- simply known as "Rambo"- Bruce Willis back as John McClane in the 4th. Die Hard movie- "Live Free or Die Hard"- and the sure to be a success movie coming May 22nd!!! (I can't wait!)- Harrison Ford coming back for the 4th. Indiana Jones movie!!! - "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (see the trailer on IndianaJones.com - it ROCKS! AWESOME!)
And even MacGyver-esque movies like "Sahara" (somewhat) and "National Treasure" 1 and 2 (Definitely!) are coming out lately.
And of course, other '80s classics getting revived, like the new "Knight Rider" series and "The A-Team" movie that is supposed to be on the way soon (I've also heard of a movie version of another '80s classic- "The Equalizer"- and don't forget that there's supposedly a "Magnum, P.I." movie in the works- and "Miami Vice" got its own movie pretty recently)
It seems to me that it would be a great time to see Richard Dean Anderson revive his MacGyver character for one last theatrical movie! Of course, it would still be a matter of if it could be done in a serious vein and if RDA would agree to it. And if it picked up from where the original series left off.
I would really love to see it happen. It may someday. I've kinda learned that with Hollywood, you just really can "Never Say Never Again" (as Sean Connery showed us in 1983!

)
Anyway- I'm excited for some more MacGyver exposure and something new to enjoy. Hopefully at the very least this will get Paramount to realize the popularity of the show and finally get those TV-movies out in a separate DVD set, hopefully with all the extras they left off from the individual season and complete series DVD sets.
Keep on MacGyvering!
