Has anyone actually found out what the actual houseboat style was? My wife and I have been discussing this at length while going through the Complete Collection on DVD and neither of us can dig up any credible information on the web.

Regards,
Michael

Hey welcome aboard smile.gif

Excellent question too. I tried finding out the same information about a year ago and came up pretty well empty handed.

I think it's most likely to be whats called a "Full Floating" styled houseboat.

Here's a picture of the only houseboat left in Coal harbor in Vancouver.

It's not exactly the same.. but.. similar...kind of.

I absolutely love that houseboat he has. It has that log cabin, adventure, wilderness type feel to it.

Hi, Michael -- welcome to MOL!

Many if not most houseboats are custom built, as far as I know; and often subsequently modified. I don't think there would necessarily be a specific style, or a "make" or "model". It would be great to find out who the architect was, and who built it.

I had a look around at this site without much luck, but one of the links lead me to a site about "Floating cabins" which seems to fit the MacGyver houseboat better than anything else I've found.

We've got a number of pictures in our Media Center both interior and exterior.

Hrmmmmm, I'll have to look that up... They may be customized however if we could find out who the original company was then you could probably find something similar and go from there.

See, one of the things I do is take various cool stuff like that and recreate it in Second Life. I've already done the Highlander barge from the Paris episodes and thought the MacGyver boat would be a neato addition too.

I guess I could just guess at the scale and recreate from shots of the series posted on the web and the DVDs that I have.

Thanks for the help folks smile.gif

My husband and I own the floating home (the official name is "Land's End") that was used in the series, it has been remodeled inside but the exterior is somewhat the same, although it was painted turquoise by a previous owner. It's still here in BC. It was moved from Coal Harbour to Richmond Marina and from there to our marina almost 4 yers ago. I have been looking for photos of our home before it was remodeleled so we could see what's been changed. Cheers!

How very cool!

We have tons of houseboats here (between the rivers and all the canals) but not near as nice as the one used in MacGyver. Mostly newer ones... the older ones don't fare hurricanes well.

I'm sure you can find reference shots on this site or others. In fact I remember seeing one that had images of all MacGyver's houses.

Perhaps you could answer who the company was that created the vessel then we could narrow down whether it was a custom job (one off) or whether it was a line they carried.

Regards,
Michael

WOW!!

It must be SO Awesome to know your living in MacGyver's houseboat!!! happy_dance.gif

That would just make life complete wouldn't it.

happy_dance.gif happy_dance.gif happy_dance.gif happy_dance.gif happy_dance.gif

As for photos of the interior, we have pictures of the inside of the houseboat from the show, but I can't say for sure if these photos are based on what the interior really looked like.

You may be able to help us out with that by looking at the photos.

Yeah, thanks! And if you ever decide to sell it, this is the one place that your real estate value will be ultra-inflated. I personally would pay am obscene amount of money to live in that thing! Then I'd spend even more restoring it to look as it did in the series... whistle.gif

Wow, is that snow?!?!? In BC?!?!?! You guys get like what, 2mm of snow per year wink.gif The rest of the time its rain!

Great to see these photos!!! If Lands End ever sends in any more be sure to post 'em!!

I've actually spoken with two different designers he figure something like that can be recreated and it would not be nearly as expensive as I would have thought. Some of the systems built today are ultra modern and use expensive building materials where for the most part that is wood frame construction on a floating platform.

One of the designers wants as many reference photos as can be found to do the job properly. He said they'd get a kick out of doing the job cause he remembers the show vaguely.

Here's a sneak peek at what the inside of the houseboat looks like today and also a sneak peek of whats in store thanks to Landsend, the current owner of the houseboat.

This picture is looking at where the bookshelves use to be next to the front door of the house.

Waw!!! It´s really wonderful to see the houseboat now after all these years. I´d like to thank owners and webmaster for share the photos.

Now I have some questions, I found some years ago in the net a pic from the set, from the studio "The Bridge". It was the interior of the houseboat. My question is. The shooting of the interior was in the real houseboat? or it was a set? or maybe it was both of them, real houseboat and set? They made a set with the shape of the real houseboat?

The filming was done in the actual Houseboat itself.

From some of the information provided by Landsend, the current owner (which I'm working on getting posted here) says that the Bathroom on the ground floor was used as a dressing room when needed for filming the show.

It interesting to note that the houseboat has quite a bit more room than we ever saw in the show, and if you really pay attention to the filming of any houseboat scenes and how and where the camera moves, you can tell that they where shot using mostly mobile cameras.

Here's a picture of the back of the house. You can see there's more room there than we ever saw.
