Ever wondered what happened to MacGyver's houseboat after filming was over? Was it destroyed? sold? moved?

Well, it was sold and is used today in Vancouver as a private home.

Thanks to Landsend (the owner of the houseboat) MacGyver Online has exclusive pictures of what the Houseboat looks like today.

Hey, I just took the tour on the houseboat pictures. These are great. Though it's not easy to think like in reverse. So the lounge is now the kitchen and kitchen is the lounge in real life? Addings, enlargings...

Maybe we can make an extra houseboat gallery on how it looked on the show in which episodes and than I think it would be easier to make comparisons to what was where and what has been altered since.

Just a thought, though.

That oughta do the trick. biggrin.gif

I need to work on trying to improve those screen captures. sad.gif

Some of them look a bit hinky

Thanks for the wonderful pics, Rocky. I have no idea of how big the houseboat really was until now. From the outside I could not imagine it has at least 3 bedrooms, 3 showers/washrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a laundry, not to mention lounge areas and a fire place! On second though it could all be possible given the fact that it did house a team of filming crew and actors at that time.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 6 March 2009 - 07:53 AM
It appears that our beloved houseboat is a little maze with many secrets. biggrin.gif

Um... it doesn't.

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. And the lounge, kitchen, open areas and fireplace can all be seen in the show. wink.gif

Maybe the extra rooms are in the basement... *tonguecheek* happy.gif

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 6 March 2009 - 12:44 PM
laugh.gif maybe.

I've just added an interesting piece of information to the page.

QUOTE
The upstairs area is built off-square to the bottom floor of the house. Much like two blocks on top of each other with the top one skewed like an 8 pointed star. This goes someway to explaining how the upstairs area has been changed. The angle of the skew has probably been altered to accommodate the new bedroom area.

So if you take a couple of pieces of paper of the same size and shape; Lay them on top of each other and then twist the top one in a clock wise position until it forms a star like shape you have the general idea of how the houseboat is laid out. smile.gif

Posted by: Old Fan 6 March 2009 - 05:51 PM
Wow... it's bigger than I thought. All those bedrooms and bathrooms. I guess Mac needed SOME privacy in his own place. I like the new blue color. So the name "Land's End" is the model name, does that mean there are OTHERS out there just like it???

blush.gif Actually that was an error on my part. I've just confirmed with the owner that Land's End is the boats registration name, not the model name.

I've corrected the information on the page accordingly.

It would be interesting capture some pics of the Houseboat from MacGyver TV Show, interiors and exteriors, and compare with the pics of the Houseboat today.

Yeah, biggrin.gif . It ´s right, but I meant some pics together to compare, on the lef the MacGyver pic and on the right the real pic, or something like this.

Anyway thanks for the pics. I know that all this web page needs many work and many time. And it´s a very, very good page in design, information, pics and videos.

Just a thought....I wonder if TV will ever put on a MacGyver show marathon (and show the houseboat like it used to be), like MTV did back in the early 90s for the Monkees? That would be so awesome.

I've added a comparisons page on my ever increasing to-do list. But in the mean time there's this http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/house4.html

Although this will depend somewhat on the reply I get back from the owners about where the internal scenes where shot.

Posted by: Bubba Ho-Tep 15 June 2009 - 12:09 PM
It's great to know that the houseboat is real. For the longest time I wasn't sure if they shot interior scenes in a studio or not. To find out that it was the real deal is sweet.

Personally though, I liked the look of the original houseboat over the remodeled version.

Someday if I have the money, I would love to recreate the houseboat to have as a second home.

WOW!!! That's amazing!!!
Thanks for sharing. biggrin.gif

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 3 November 2009 - 06:52 PM
I've just updated the http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/houseboat.html to confirm that internal scenes where shot on a sound stage.

The owner hasn't been able to find definite answers for us yet, but I believe that with Nordmarks colleague giving confirmation as well as the various bits of http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5236&view=findpost&p=61034 we have which all show the interior of MacGyver's house being somewhat different to the real house, we have the evidence to back up this idea.

Nice. Curious to see some things can change so much... Wonder what happened to the loft at the beach...

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 26 November 2009 - 12:29 PM
The beach apartment from season 1 is still there as a private residence. You can see a fairly recent photo of it on our http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/locations.html

Great pics. I think I like the old gray paint job more, though.

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 15 March 2010 - 08:23 PM
I think the gray was actually just the bare wood wasn't it? Which would explain why it had to be painted I guess. laugh.gif

Posted by: kingrixy 20 March 2010 - 12:26 PM
I am just wondering how much a place like that cost in it locale, and age shipping cost etc, as we dont have anything like that where I live? I sure would like to buy that one in particular though (ultimate completest collector Syndrome..lol)

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 20 March 2010 - 02:15 PM
I would think the shipping cost of moving it from Vancouver to U.K for somethign of that size would be pretty high.

The current owners of the MacGyver houseboat are putting it up for sale.

You can follow the progress in renovating and preparing the float home for sale on http://sellingmacgyversfloathome.blogspot.com/

Seriously... if I had the money, I'd so buy this houseboat. *sigh* A girl can dream, right? lol I told my Dad about it and he was like... I'll buy it! XD Of course, he wasn't serious... got my hopes up and all. sad.gif

How about we all chip in, buy the float home and set-up a time share agreement?

Anyone? Anyone? wink.gif

Nothing says, "good idea" like owning a floating house with a bunch of people that you only know from a website. smile.gif

Posted by: Jediferret 20 July 2013 - 12:37 PM
Me... four!? LOL

Edit: Looks like they just lowered the price to $129,000 for it on July 9th. My Dad's interest just got perked. XD

There's a cute video on YouTube the owners put up. The ending is kinda funny. lol

WARNING! There is some language. I do apologize if this has already been posted. >_<

I saw this when it first got posted but I didn't notice the pictures on the wall with shots of the house from the show. I also don't remember seeing the SAK and duct tape beside the bed the first time I saw it.

If I could afford it I'd buy it and turn it into a MacGyver museum.

KiwiTek, I've thought the same thing.

If I could afford it, I'd hire contractors to re-do the exterior to the way it looked on "MacGyver".

I've also thought that if I had the money, I'd hire a builder to build me a float home that looks just like Mac's both on the outside and the inside, using the actual pieces from the set. I'm sure some of them still exist somewhere.

On a separate but related note, I LOVE the coffee table Mac had in front of his couch in the float home. Most coffee tables are too small and too dainty. Mac's was solid looking and very manly.

Speaking of coffe tables. The worst one I ever had was about 3' by 1-1/2' and it was made up of a bunch of parallel slats about 1 inch wide with about 1 inch in between them. It looked sort of like an extendable finger board, like the kind you use to make a platform between two ladders.

Dumbest table I've ever seen.
