Mother moves a few seconds after she dies!

Posted by: MacNancy 4 February 2007 - 07:49 PM
Hi again, smile.gif

This is more of a question concerning this episode more than a nit pick. I was watching this episode a few weeks ago, and I noticed at the beginning, that right before Mac walks out of his apartment and collects his mail, he seems to be waving to someone before he comes out. Does anyone know who he may be waving to? I thought that was interesting seeing him do that. I was really curious about that, and thought I would post the question here to see if anyone has any ideas on this.

As for nit pick, I'll have to watch that episode again to see if I see any "mistakes". I do remember one thing...there was a scene where Mac was putting this bar across the stairs to trip these men right when they were coming downstairs. In one scene Mac has his watch on, but when he is putting that bar across the stairs to trip those guys, he isn't wearing his watch. You can see the "tan line" where his watch was. I thought that was interesting. So far that is the only thing I noticed in this episode. I'll watch it again and look for a few other things. Once in awhile you see a few things that catch your eye but you don't think they are that important to mention. I just like watching the episodes! They are all really good! smile.gif

Take Care,
Nancy

I would say he's waving to the people working in the little store next to the doorway there.

I would expect he knows them well since he walks past them every time he enters or leaves his apartment.

Maybe even does the odd repair job for them. laugh.gif

In the scene after this, when mac meets the brother, he asks him if he wants a coffee.. then walks over to the store counter and takes a plastic cup sitting on the counter and gives it to the brother...

How come there was a hot cup of black coffee just siting on the counter?.. and how come we don't' see anyone behind the counter?

Hi Rockateer!

Thanks for answering my question. smile.gif I wasn' sure if he was waving to someone he knew personally or just waving to those people in the store. I was just curious. You're probably right about Mac doing the repairs for them. He told someone that he did repairs for those people who owned that hardware store he lived over in the next season episodes. He said he kept them in business. lol So he may have helped those people out from time to time. wink.gif

Yeah about that coffee cup, yeah I noticed that too. I was wondering why there was no one there at the counter either. Could be the reason there was a cup sitting on the counter, was because when they saw him walk by they probably knew that he always had a cup of coffee in the morning so they probably just set it out for him. But then Mac ended up giving it to that brother instead of drinking it himself. So maybe that's why there was a cup already on the counter. Plus they knew he always paid for his coffee. However that day he didn't get a chance to pay for it. Or maybe he did and I just didn't see him. But I'm sure being an honest guy like Mac, if he didn't pay for it, he would later on. wink.gif

Thanks again for shedding some light on this episode. This was a pretty cool episode. Especially when Mac rigged that circular saw to throw all that wood and saw dust on everyone to save Frank from being killed by his brother. That was really good! LOL laugh.gif And then when he rigged up that cable and pulley to get them out of the attic. That was cool too!

Thanks again,
Nancy

In Macs apartment we see MacGyver change from his yellow sweat shirt to a gray striped shirt, but in the next scene we see him wearing a black shirt.

Probably in a scene that was edited out - for time... I think this is done alot... If the director feels the scene is not pivotal for furthering the story, and they need to cut something and it won't be missed (too much) - they'll cut it out. Somebody should have been paying attention to the clothing change though.... Hummm.....

It's funny when you see those kinds of editing discontinuities--they're glaringly obvious when an actor is wearing a different shirt from the previous scene, as in the case of this episode, or he's wearing a jacket and one second later in the story, it's gone. It happens in movies, too.

There's a scene from Blow Out that drives me crazy. I wonder if anyone else noticed this.

After Nikki and Mac go back to her apartment the morning after the attack on her, he is wearing dark blue jeans (check the color against his jacket). When we see him fairly soon after - at the explosives plant, his jeans have totally faded out... Did he change his pants at the Phoenix Foundation before they drove to the explosives plant???

Again... maybe something was cut, or someone wasn't paying attention. Not a life-altering slip, but one I notice every time I watch this ep.

and yet it's so easy to do.

I actually did it myself once. We were shooting a chase sequence, wearing jeans, long sleeve shirt and bomber jacket.

In between shoots, I took the jacket off to cool down a bit... and forgot to put it back on to film the next scene. We must have done a couple of takes before someone noticed the missing jacket. So although you have continuity people on set, I can understand how easy it is for something to be missed from time to time.

But it's still fun to find them laugh.gif

MacGyver's watch vanishes in one shot when he makes the stairway trap.

In the tow truck scene when MacGyver starts the winch working to hoist the agents car up, we see the winch unwinding the rope instead of winding it.

the brother looks at the engine after it overheats and tells the bad guys, the block is toast. In reality you cannot see a cracked block normally without pulling most of the engine apart. For all he knew it just overheated.

When Frank tells is partner to open fire on the attic door, the Uzi sounds like a childs toy gun with sound effects.

in the opening scene which is panning across the venice beach strip to macs apts where he is standing on the balcony you can see one of the people walking from behind is either RDA or his stunt double. Whomever it is is wearing the bright yellow sweatshirt and kahki pants and white sneakers that mac is wearing at the begining of the episode ,so maybe its his stunt double just used as an extra but they use this establishing shot in a few different episodes and i notice it right away every time. Should not have put whoever it is in that bright yellow sweatshirt.

Ok, Mac calls for a tow truck, but what happened to the driver?! Did I blink and miss something here? Does Mac fool the driver into leaving his truck unattended, did the truck drive itself (this is the era when KITT prowled the streets mind you), or was it a goof? tongue.gif

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 23 November 2010 - 09:21 PM
Well it was ACME tow truck rentals, so one would presume he had to go and pick the truck up like you do with any other rental vehicle.

Opps, missed the word rental while he was on the phone. tongue.gif But that's almost as goofy, I've never heard of a place that rents those. Rental stores have everything under the sun, including trailers and tow dollies, but tow *trucks*? No, never seen one of those. You can get them for lease I'm sure, but. Mac just pulled some stings or used connections, let's go with that scenario. smile.gif

when mac arrives and pulls away from the lumber yard in franks car a large IROC Z logo is on the passenger side door yet when mac pulls away from his apt there is no logo on the door

when mac is sliding out of the attic he slides over the wrought iron fence. In the very last frame as he slides over the fence there is a piece of equipment looks like a red ladder left in the scene on its side resting against brick fence and the sidewalk

He was talking to himself at the window, I think he was talking to himself again, and he didn't actually speak to Frank at all.

Posted by: KiwiTek 26 December 2011 - 10:05 PM
Yeah that is a bit of a tricky one. Both before and after scenes have an obvious voice over, but this scene specifically says the name Frank as if he's talking to him, but then Frank doesn't respond which lends weight to the argument that it was part of the voice-over.

hmm.bmp

Probably a case of bad writing where 2 ideas got muddled into one.

When mac cuts the some hose of the car. And when the car broke down, so if that two federal mans was had to take the Frank to safehouse, so why they didn't call some extra patrols to take the Frank to safe? They just stand on the street and ''Hey, we need a tow'' huh.gif
