Anyone got any nostalgic thoughts?

For example, any of you remember when Trix cereal was actual shapes instead of spheres? Why did they have to change it? sad.gif

Tell me about it! How about Post Sugar Crisp as opposed to Honey Crisp cereal? It's not much, but I like the original name better! happy_dance.gif

I think they changed the name because of health concerns... You know, cereal is too sugary, parents don't want their kids eating it, and so on. Thank you, overprotective parents, for ruining our childhood (just kidding, don't hurt me tongue.gif )

I see cartoons like Scooby-Doo and Veggie Tales have undergone extreme design changes. (I mention this even though this involves t.v.)

All the time. Smells or sounds usually trigger nostalgia. For instance, I LOVE the smell of wood smoke. We used to have a wood burning stove when I was a kid, and there was nothing like being curled up on the couch in a comfy blanket right next to it. Sometimes you'd sit there and just watch it snow.

Certain sounds too. For instance, when I was a kid, we used to go to Disney World a lot. It was cheaper and less crowded then. One of my now favorite sounds actually freaked me out once. We were staying at the Polynesian Resort and my mom liked to keep the porch doors open so she could hear the sounds from the lake. Well, one morning... this came from the Magic Kingdom and woke me up in a panic... XD My parents thought it was hilarious.

LOL right Dragondog!

Me too Jedi....I grew up in a home heated by a wood/coal furnace, and it instantly transports me back to childhood biggrin.gif That, and apple pie in the oven. It's amazing how much scents can trigger memories!

Stay warm and dry everyone...it's snowing again here in Central Pennsylvania! My trusty old Subaru is getting a workout this year!

That sound would panic me, too! blink.gif I've never been to Disney World.

That classic howl.

What about this?

Nostalgic feelings that don't involve tv is kind of hard since almost everything was connected to the media. Toys, magazines, you name it.

Otherwise I really have to go to my baby/toddlerhood.

Unless maybe technology. Remember the walkman or discman? Wireless phones with an antannae or fashions.

You could mention stuff connected to t.v., I just wanted to broaden it a bit, since we've got other discussions about t.v. shows going on already.

For example, every time I think about that song from Dumbo (I think it's called "Baby Mine"), I get sentimental, because my mom used to sing that to me when I was a baby/toddler. It's kind of t.v. related.

I can't listen to Baby Mine actually. When I was younger nothing really bothered me that much, but as I got older I've gotten more emotional about things. Baby Mine makes me sob like a baby because it makes me miss my Mom... even though she was a pain in the fanny.

Disney is one of those places that you have to go at least once in your life. Disney World, in specific, is nostalgia given a location. Everything about it brings back memories. However, Disney does this on purpose. It's called "brand bonding". They've got it down to science with both adults and kids. Almost everyone I've ever met that has been there loves the place like it's an addiction.

Though, I have an old friend of mine that used to work there. He hates Disney because once you work there, the magic of the place is ruined. He refuses to go back there unless he has kids. lol

Sorry to hear that, Jedi. There's this song that I used to love when I was a kid, I think it was MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine" and I can no longer listen to it because my aunt had it played at her funeral three years ago. The song brings back too much sadness.

"White noise"...I'm not sure what you call it, but that sound other than music you get when playing vinyl records. I have gotten so used to cassettes and CD's that I didn't even realized I missed it until one day I put on a record...it was like putting on an old comfy pair of jeans!!

You mean like that static/crackling noise that is sometimes between tracks?

I actually can't sleep without some form of white noise. I used to have a fan, but I couldn't afford to replace it when it finally burned out. I did find an alternative that is just as good, if not better. There's a channel on YouTube called 8 Hours Of, and that's what they do... 8 hours of all kinds of noises for sleep and relaxation. My favorites are fireplace/rain sounds. There's a rain on leaves that is nice too. Should check 'em out, might find something you'll like.

Wow, this topic is a big one for me....so I'll try to be brief. tongue.gif

Food is a big nostalgia trigger for me...Chick-Fil-A fries remind me of eating in the Buckingham Square Mall, torn down a decade ago.

Does anyone else remember Clove, Beeman's or Blackjack gum? They were actually more of a thing for generations before me (I think Beeman's has a cameo in Disney's The Rocketeer), but my parents remembered it and exposed me to it when I was young.

Food that I used to eat as a little kid brings back memories for me, too. Unfortunately, I have too many digestive problems to eat a lot of that nowadays. Once in a while, I do though. Then I regret it. tongue.gif

The smell of rain always makes me nostalgic.

@Jedi: Me either Jedi. I used to listen to the radio when I was a boy. Now I have a box fan going too! I have to have some sort of steady, low key noise going to relax. Thanks for the YouTube info...I'm always looking for something new! When I was in the academy years ago, a friend of mine had a shelftop stereo that had a selection of everything from ocean sounds to jungle animals. It was great

@Dragondog: I'm paying for eating things that I ate over the weekend that I love, but it sure doesn't love me anymore!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Last night, I was awake at 2 a.m., and I started thinking about various video games that I either used to love playing, or still play a lot. Whenever I check them out, just for old times sake, the soundtrack always gets me emotional. So much nostalgia, especially if it was a game I played during a period of change in my life (like moving). Then I couldn't fall back to sleep, because I was so emotional. dry.gif

I've been playing video game since I was a little kid, so of course video games have some level of nostalgia. Right before we moved to New York, my sister and I would often sit in my bedroom and play Resident Evil: Outbreak.

Also, for some odd reason, this particular "build" music hits that nostalgia spot. I guess because that time between 2000 - 2003 were our last years in Virginia. I was an "adult", had a job, had a car, had our last trip to Disney and than made a major move to New York. I also found out the guy I liked was getting married... so... lots of emotions going on during that time frame.

Anything relating to Resident Evil 4, because my sister and I were so excited about that game. So, of course Resident Evil 4 has some nostalgia. Also, the early years of the Xbox 360, when I started playing online. Met a lot of my best friends during those years, had a lot of drama too. lol

Maybe I do miss Fruit Loops. They were sold here in Europe in the 90's but got discontinued along the way. Then a year or so ago I heard they were a one time promotion. I did find a box in a candy store once. It was expensive too. Over 8 euros for normal box. It's so unfair.
