In the list there is recruit and recruit economy models of the knife used in episodes, but the time when MacGyver was filmed there was only economy model awailable so that model was allways used.

Great job! Yep it is hard to say wich one mountaineer or huntsman is used in d.o.a.macgyver episode. But when i looked that bike repairing scene it looked that knife has file/metalsaw blade instead of woodsaw. Earlier friendns episode looks like mountaineer knife is opened on the memorial table next to minituare hot airballoon.

Well sorry i can't be 100% sure, but sometimes they used same knife model in succession episodes. So they might use mountaineer in last three ones from season 2. Might be better if just put mountaineer/huntsman. Those knife models has so little difference.

Is The SAK Usage page updated as well please to reflect the changes?

That won't get done for a while (from me anyway) as it requires sitting down and recounting every knife on the list again.

I won't have time to do that for a while, but if someone else feels the urge - have at it.

Can someone confirm what tools the Standard (old spartan) had? I'm slowly working to complete my MacGyver used SAK collection and want to make sure I get the right one. I typed STANDARD and OLD SPARTAN into eBay and a couple different versions of the SAKs came up.

Also, regarding the Golfer, I've seen two versions: one with the shield on the same side as the corkscrew and one with the image of a male golfer on the same side as the shield on the opposite side of the corkscrew. I assume it's the former.

I have standard victorinox knife bought in 1989 or 1990 and 1989 victorinox catalog where it is named as standard. Knife has six basic tools: big knife,small knife, can opener/small srewdriver,bottle opener/big screwdriver,reamer and corkscrew like spartan, but no toothpick and tweezers and no keyring.

In Cleo Rocks, what kind of knive does Murdoc use to cut MacGyver's arm in the dungeon at the very end? Overall interested to know what kind of gear does he own.

I've got another one. In Negotiator Deborah seems to use either Leatherman multitool or Victorinox Swisstool. I don't have much knowledge in these tools, but does anyone happend to know which was was it, model and all. Just a moment ago watched this episode and I became curious.

I think it is leatherman because swisstool wasnt on the market yet when the episode was filmed.

True, Leatherman company founded in 1983 and Swisstool announced in 1997, so Debbie had Leatherman.

In the list it says recruit economy for Renegade episode, but I think I saw 3 different knives used in this episode, even one bigger SAK when Mac cuts the ropes in the end.

The way I see it, no recruit economy was used in the Renegade episode, correct if I'm wrong. The Recruit Economy SAK is a simpler version with no toothpick or tweezers. Mac used his SAK in the elevator and in the end cutting the rope. To me it looks like there's toothpick in the close up shot in elevator. While cutting the rope, it looks like 111mm, perhaps Picnicker or some other large blade one. Mac did use a lot large blade during season 4. Steve Morrison (Marshall Teague) in the first picture seems to be using some smaller SAK, to me it looks like black small Tinker, any thoughts.

By the way, the one Deborah used in Negotiator is most likely Leatherman PST Pocket Survival Tool 1988-1992

What does the "Standard" (old Spartan) look like? Is it missing the two tools on the opposite side from where the knife blades, screwdriver, bottle opener, etc. are? Is it small in size, similar to the size of the small Tinker? Or is it missing the toothpick and tweezers?

Is there any way to not only list the different SAKs Mac used, as it currently exists on MOL, but to include an accurate picture of said SAKs as they existed while "MacGyver" was on TV, with all the tools exposed, similar to the wardrobe page. The pictures should be of the actual SAKs, not screen captures from the different episodes. If a particular SAK model differs in any way to the ones Mac used, a note should be made stating said difference.

I think the standard has no keyring,tweezers or toothpick.




The photos is a good idea but runs into problems with episodes having multiple knives. The page looks quite messy with pictures added. I can look at having an image pop up when you click on the name of the knife.


I just found this SAK wiki site. It's not very well put together - doesn't even have a search by name option, but some may find it interesting/useful.

Its great that the new SAK come standard with all the new tools, still there is something unique about the original models.
