Love both models, but the Climber has to be close to being the ultimate pocketable SAK! Thrilled that the new Mac is still using traditional models in the new show!!

In the bomb truck scene they switched from a 3-layer (which had the scissors to cut the bomb wire) to a 2 layer for cutting the canopy to make the parachute.
Hello everyone, new member here. I just signed up because, beside being a long-time Macguyver buff, I wanted to participate in this discussion. I am into pocket knives and posted about this on a similar thread on a swiss army knives forum, so I thought I'd share with you folks.
In the second episode we see Mac using a sak 5 times: 4 times while in Venezuela and 1 time back in LA, towards the end. I spent a bit of time analyzing screen captures and here is what I found: In the last scene, the one in LA, Mac is using a Climber. In the second scene featuring a sak (the one where he's taking the cameras off the wall) he's using a Fieldmaster (or possibly, but unlikely, a Mechanic or Tinker Deluxe). In the 3 remaining scenes he's using a Camper.*
As a side note, I noticed Mac keeps his sak in his pants change pocket (you can see it sticking out), which I think is cool. Anderson kept it in his back pocket, if I remember correctly.
*I am not 100% sure about the first scene, where he's opening the elevator door. It's most likely a Camper (also since he's using a Camper shortly after), but it could be a Climber instead.

In the original series, Mac carried his SAKs in various places: right front pocket, back pocket, shirt pocket, coat pocket, etc.
This also adds to my personal (and totally unofficial) belief that Mac carried at least two SAKs on him at all times. They have a saying in the military "Three is two, two is one, one is none" when referring to equipment. If one is broken/lost/stolen, then there is at least one backup. Mac was always forward thinking, and I'm sure that he would have carried two (or more) SAKS on him in various pockets (hence the different places he carried them in the original show) with different features on them. This also helps me suspend disbelief in that the reason that he always seemed to have just the right tool on his knife on him.
Thanks for the info on the knives used so far everyone!

I always carried mine in my left front pocket until I watched Mac pull his from his back pocket. I gave it a try and I like it better! It gives you more room to carry that Classic with the scissors and still have the Tinker/Spartan with the bigger tools. Live and learn I guess!

For me, the trouble with the back pocket is that the knife doesn't sit there straight, but tend to turn and lie horizontally, making it unconfortable. I've actually thought about modding some pants to avoid this.
This episode's knives were a bit complicated to identify, due to different knives being used in the same scenes. But here it goes. Mac uses his SAK a total of 7 times throughout the episode:
1- making body bag buffers (gambit) UNIDENTIFIED 3 (maybe 4) layers knife
2- making a directional antenna CLIMBER
3- applying credit card to wound RANGER NOTE: Mac is using this knife to open the car door panel and strip tape from the cable. However, a few seconds before he starts doing this, as he picks up a bottle of hand sanitizer, he is shown holding a 3 layer SAK (while the Ranger has 5), with the cap lifter folded out. Was this part of some deleted scene?
4- making a smoke bomb UNIDENTIFIED knife
5- performing an intercostal chest drain procedure (5.1)- First, Mac strips the van back seat using a CAMPER (which is a 3 layers SAK). (5.2)- After that, when Mac is cutting the guy's chest, he's using an unidentified SAK which appears to have 2 layers. (5.3)- Then, when pulling the valve from the car tire, he's holding an unidentified SAK with 3 layers. (5.4)- Right after that, when he's cutting the wiper tube, he's again using a CAMPER (or possibly a CLIMBER). (5.5)- Follows a split screen scene of the tire valve being fitted in the tube: ((5.5A))- Upper half screen shows the awl being used, in an unidentified knife that has a corkscrew and looks like having 2 or 3 layers. ((5.5B))- The lower half screen shows SAK pliers being used. This knife cannot be the same one used on the upper half screen scene (nor in 5.2), since the only 3 layers SAKs with pliers don't have a corkscrew (and there are no 2 layers SAKs with pliers).
6- turning a ballpoint pen into a syringe RANGER NOTE: just before tinkering with the ballpoint pen, Mac is stirring water and he appears to be doing so with a SAK metal saw. I'm assuming it's the same SAK he uses a few seconds later, the RANGER, when he uses its metal saw on the ballpoint pen.
7- making gas masks UNIDENTIFIED 2 or 3 layers knife

I love Levis jeans because the change pocket is big enough to carry a SAK in it. If I'm not wearing jeans, I'll keep it in my front pocket while sitting, and then move it to my back pocket when I'm walking. The only reason I do that is so my car keys don't scratch it up in my front pocket.

That's a good way to do it too. I keep gravitating to the 3 layer SAKs which can be a tight fit in the change pocket for me (or just a sign my middle aged body isn't what it used to be!! ).
