Hi! I'm a long-time Mac-fan and prop replicator. I just completed this MacGyver passport covering all of his on-screen adventures (from 1985-1994):

My original prototype was incorrectly based on the 1990s passport (which is virtually intentical to current US passport) but with a few minor changes for legal reasons.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks and

Kind regards,
Indy

Nicely done.

However there is one HUGE mistake on it.

You have RDAs birthday instead of MacGyvers.

MacGyvers birthday is March 23, 1952 - Mission City, Minnesota

RDA's birthday is January 23, 1950 - January 23, 1950

If you used the shots from "Everytime she smiles" as your blueprint for Macs passport, they used RDA's birthday (and probably his real passport) in that episode.

Check out our Charecter Bio pages for more info.

Thanks for that info. Yes, I was basing it off the one seen in Season 1, but I'm almost certain that it is not RDA's real passport for a few reasons:

-no eagle stamp over the left half of the photo (security feature)
-no long string of text below the photo
-Penny Parker's name is clearly seen, so they obviously made a replica for her, so why not for Mac?

I figure they just don't show Mac's name clearly to avoid the issue of his first name.

Thanks again for the info. I'll update this in my next one. Do you have any idea what his most current address would have been circa 1994? Thanks and

Kind regards,
Indy

Wow! Very nice! Of course, since my birthday is the same as Mac's, I noticed that little goof, but, otherwise, WOW. I'm really interested in the technical side of how you made it....

Wow! That is really impressive, it must have taken quite a bit of time to do.

Wow! Very cool Indy! And welcome to the group! One question: How did you determine the dates for all the stamps? I'm not asking cuz I know anything about passports (I don't even have one ) or the dates Mac went abroad, I'm just curious.

Mac's passport... now that's a collector's item!

Awesome job, Indy... and welcome!! cool.jpg

Thanks for all the kind words. Let's see now... I've been making passport replicas for a few years. It all started with a highly inaccurate US passport for Indiana Jones. I quickly revised it after finding some period accurate images. Since then I've done passports for James Bond, Rick Blaine (Bogey in Casablanca), Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, and even produced some for Micronations.

So when I started watching Season 1 of MacGyver... it was a no brainer! Basically, each passport is made differently, but for Mac's I scanned an actual passport for the microprint (background), then laid out all the text in a word processor. After printing, the pages are hand-sewn and glued to the cardstock cover. The cover image is made with a gold foil system I use.

As for the stamps, they are all digitally printed. I make the images from actual stamps, modifications of stamps, while a few are purely invented. The dates I gathered from the original air dates of each episode (but played around with in some cases to give Mac time to get from one place to another).

This passport proved to be quite challenging because Mac often gone in and out of countries by going AROUND places you'd be getting stamps in. So usually, I stamped his entry but often not his exit... or perhaps his "exit" is marked by his legal entry into a bordering country.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Kind regards,
Indy

Wow! Awesome job, Indy Magnoli! And nice to have another Indiana Jones fan on here (another one of my heroes- besides MacGyver, of course!)

Yeah- MacGyver's passport is one of the central images identified with MacGyver- it's pretty much the first image seen in every episode as each intro starts with MacGyver handing a guy his passport! So it's very appropriate to have a passport replica! That's a way cool job!
(That's the kinda thing that would make an AWESOME extra on the MacGyver DVDs, if Paramount ever bothered with such things. The Fraggle Rock Season DVDs have had replicas of Jim Henson's original notepads of musings on the show's setup- if they can do that, it would be nice to see Paramount do something like that for MacGyver.)

Thank you for explaining the process. So many different skills go into making these replicas. I'm awed. smile.gif

It's amusing to see him from so long ago, isn't it?

You mean that photo on the passport?... Yeah he's pretty young there, although for some reason that photo makes him look a little plumper in the checks, and thus more like he looks today. He got pretty thin in the face at one point.

But as I've already said, that Passport is very well done.
