Hello,

I am looking to pick up the complete series and i noticed that amazon is selling two different packages.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SQFC2M/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=macgyveronlin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000SQFC2M

Can you guys help me understand the difference between the two?

Thanks!

jB

The first link is a single box set with all the disks loosely packaged in sleeves and includes the two TV movies.

The second set is the individual box sets as they were originally released. I think these are much better presented with separate disk cases and episode descriptions. This set does not include the 2 movies.

You can see more pictures and info in our http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/dvd.html

Thank you very much.

I assume there is no difference in quality of versioning?

Correct. There is no difference in versions or quality.

Is there going to be a re-release of the complete series? In slim pacagaing on fewer discs? I saw something on line recently, but cannot find further info to confirm this! It was supposedly new compressed technology....I'm very curious...

I am looking to buy the set myself very soon and I had the exact same question, what is the difference between the sets. So, in true MacGyver fashion I got "nosey" and checked the forums for my answer.

Yep, got the answer here without even asking. After all MacGyver was a pro at listening in to other's conversations, right? And even admits to being "Bold and Nosey, I'm famous for that". LOL whistle.gif

I have a quick question, but I am not sure if anyone will read this thread before I give up and buy. I am planning on buying the Series set very soon (within the week). I noticed the set without the nice packaging has been reduced in price a bunch so I will likely buy that one (though I really like the other packaging).

Here's my question: the sets are listed in the Store here to buy from Amazon, but does it matter whether I buy it from the Store here or just go straight to Amazon? I am asking in case this site gets credit or anything. Perhaps one of the administrators knows??? hmm.bmp

If you purchase through the http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/store.html here we get a small commission from your purchase. This is our only form of income and is used entirely to cover the costs of running the site.

So in short, please use the links on the http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/store.html to help us out.

And Thank You. smile.gif

Thanks Kiwi for replying so quickly!! I will purchase it from the store here. I totally want to help out the site as I am really enjoying being a member, getting to know everyone a bit and getting to know more about MacGyver!!

Want to know a small annoying thing that I had happen when I ordered? I ordered the set without the good packaging because I just could not justify that much more for just the packaging. As soon as I finalized my order they had dropped the price of the one I ordered by $5, but the packagin set by $50...Argh!!

what do you mean by the one with the good packaging?

There's a set with each season in it's own packaging and there's the one with everything in one box. Which are you referring to?

Posted by: Mela_007 30 November 2012 - 02:39 PM
I was referring to the set with each season's separate packaging as the one that dropped in price a lot. I had originally wanted to get that one because I am afraid of the discs getting damaged in the other one, but if that becomes a problem I may just get disc sleeves for them.

I am excited to get the series anyway...it's on the way!! YAY!! happy_dance.gif

Plus that set does have the two movies with it which is a nice bonus as I have not seen them. w00t.gif

Best thing to do is by a single page http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=40%20disc%20wallet&linkCode=ur2&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A40%20disc%20wallet&tag=macgyveronlin-20&url=search-alias%3Daps and store all the disks in that. The single page wallets are small enough to fit on a book shelf, but wide enough to hold the whole series.

Wow, cool idea! Thanks Kiwi!!! I will do that. That way I can keep the entire series together but well protected. Awesome!!! happy_dance.gif

I got my set today!!!! Hooray!!!! happy_dance.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Now just gotta find out if I can open it now or have to wait until Christmas (technically a Christmas gift, but bought it myself...hubby gets out of having to worry about getting the wrong one that way). tongue.gif

I won't have to buy a protective cover. The set is divided in half and the discs do not touch one another. I like the packaging!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: KiwiTek 7 January 2013 - 02:14 PM
Don't the disks just sit loosely in the pack though? So they can move around a bit when the pack is moved and they sit against the dividers?

Posted by: Mela_007 8 January 2013 - 12:57 PM
You are right they do move around in the pack against the dividers. I had not thought about that. Do you think that would scratch them up? hmm.bmp

Yes. all you need is a little bit of dust on the divider the disk is leaning against and it will scratch. Just leaving a disk on a clean desk top is enough to scratch it. They are incredibly fragile.

Take a look at the http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5535 topic pined at the top of this forum for some more ideas on making sure your collection lasts the distance.

Even with all the care I take with my DVD set I'm finding it's starting to get scratches just from using them so there's no absolute protection other than to never watch them, but the ideas talked about in the http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5535 will certainly help extend their usable life.

Wow, ok thanks Kiwi. I think I will go ahead and get the DVD wallet for my set now. I do not want to ruin the discs, but the thought of keeping them perfect by "not watching them" is a frightening thought. surprise.gif

Thanks for all your help and also the links. I read the caring for the disc and that helps a lot. happy.gif
