QUOTE (Wheeljack @ 12 December 2013 - 01:50 AM) | QUOTE (Joe SAKic @ 5 November 2013 - 05:23 PM) | I do have a large collection of about 500 Christmas LPs that I've collected over the years and I integrate two amplifiers together each year for some multi-room sound that works well with background Christmas carols and overall ambience. For the snow falling factor on Christmas Eve - no macgyvering will help - all at the mercy of Mother Nature, I'm afraid . Extra special when the flakes fall at the time of year though. |
Wow, I wish I could find some decent LPs, Christmas or otherwise. I just got my turntable working again, hit thrift shops looking for music and was shocked how little I found. Unless you're a big fan of Barry Manilow, Englelbert Humperdink, or old Firestone store records, you're choices are slim!

LoL - Manilow, Anne Murray, Kenny Loggins, & Herb Alpert rule at those shops. And those ubiquitous Firestone & Living Strings Albums are like gum on your shoe. Stay on the hunt though - collections are always coming in and the key is to be there when they arrive - as the best ones get picked over pretty quickly. I stopped in at the (of all places) Habitat for Humanity 'Restore' yesterday and somebody had just dropped off their entire CD collection and all for sale for $1.00 each with no tax (because it's all for charity). .... I got Restrospectus - The Best of Buffalo Springfield, CCR - The Concert, Pink Floyd - Meddle, Neil Young - Harvest Moon, Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach, Grateful Dead - Aoxomoxoa, Dylan & the Dead, Rush - 2112, Rush - A Farewell to Kings, Led Zeppelin -BBC Sessions, Led Zeppelin - How the West was Won & Monty Python - Live at Drury Lane. A decent haul (every now & then) makes 'the hunt' and mildewy fingers - all (kinda) worth while. Incidentally, I only started collecting the Christmas albums because I'd go to garage sales (too) late on Saturday mornings and that's all that would be remain .... often the owner would say 'just take them otherwise they're going straight in the garbage.' The thing with that genre of music is that they are often in VG++ or mint condition because they rarely, if ever get played.
The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination.
Whether you think you can or you can't .... you're probably right!

It's the return of the Charlie Brown tree, this year with MacGyver theme! I got the idea a couple of weeks ago but found that the tree wanted to topple over out it's stand from the weight of the knives. The solution was to glue it in, but I didn't have any epoxy and can't afford to any right now. I thought it might have to wait until next year, then a couple days ago I found some in my work bench and... Yaaay! These are all the saks I currently own and some MacGyver-ish stuff like a piece of wire, a wrench, a battery (can't see it though) and a clothespin. C3PO is also hiding in there for no reason at all. I feel like it could've been arranged better, but the placement of the limbs makes it hard. The picture didn't turn out so clear either from lack of light. Anyway, what I proud of here is Finally Finding A Use For The Corkscrew. !!! You can't actually open a bottle of wine with it (trust me, I've tried) but it's a makes a tree topper. lol
