The hockey jersey Jennifer wears misspells MacGyver's name.

MacGyver as a youth has his hair parted on the opposite site from where it should be.

The part in his hair changes sides at various times through-out the show.

As you can see from the below screen shot, the name IS spelt correctly.

When the father jumps into his car, he punches random buttons on his vehicle lighting switch panel and also punches random buttons on a mobile "scanner" , clearly not a transciever in his car. When looking for "snake skin"

He also seems to think sound comes out of the microphone as he holds his ear up to it listening to the dispatcher.

roller.gif Your right. I just watched it in frame advance and he switches on the "right alley" light. Must be somethign badly wrong with the wiring in that car if he needs to turn the outside alley light on to make his radio work! laugh.gif

How can you tell it's a scanner and not an RT/transceiver/radio?

Actually I've seen a lot of people do that when they use those kinds of hand units. Just seems to be a kind of subconscious stance like some people rub their chin when they're in deep thought.

Kewl. smile.gif Good catch.

Obviously in the episode it's suppose to be an RT, because he dials in the number to call the local police comms center. Remember he's out of his own district, so would need to dial the nearest comms center instead of his own comms, but non-the-less you'd think they might have been able to source a real RT unit.

Something else just occurred to me... we see him turn on the right alley light, but that's an un-marked police car.. it doesn't have those big "alley light" spotlights on it.

OK after watching a documentary about the New York Fire Department last night I can confirm that those hand units are both microphone AND speaker.

Several times through the documentary I saw firemen talking on their radios and holding the hand unit up to their ear so they could hear the response over the noise of what was going on around them.

I dare say that there are brands which use a separate speaker, but the 2 in one seem to be quite common, probably because of the convenience it affords.

You are correct, most "portable radios or handhelds" use what is called a speaker mic. Which is a mic and speaker in 1

In this scene, he is using a "mobile" radio, which is mounted in the vehicle.

In a car installation, there is usually a seperate speaker installed, under a seat, or in some place in the passenger compartment. The micrphone is usually not a speaker in a mobiel application.

However your previous comment about it being a habbit like scratching your chin while thinking is most likely the reasoning, like a reflex.
