QUOTE (legends @ 1 February 2014 - 04:45 PM) | Time to respond to some of the comments on here about the auction.
MacGyver items: We are still awaiting receipt of the items from RDA which is why you are not seeing them yet. There have been personal reasons at his end as to why they have not been sent out. We are still hoping this will happen before the end of the sale on the 11th but this is something unforeseen and beyond our control.
Website: I regret that the website is not to your liking but we are restricted in the design and 'look' of the site by virtue of the structure of the auction software that we are using. If we could give the site more pizazz, then we would do so. Nevertheless, it is functional and it does the job.
SSCS rope: This may seem a trivial item to some, but there are many people who want to support Sea Shepherd and owning a little piece of something that was used on one of the ships means a lot to them. Perhaps the significance of how that piece of rope was used maybe lost on some people.
Stargate jacket: That item is being added to the auction this week. We still have many items to list and shall be doing so each day.
SSCS charity: This auction is intended to help raise funds for Sea Shepherd and we are including as much variety as we can. As Richard Dean Anderson is so closely tied to SSCS, we are trying to include items relating to him that may be of interest to his fans. That includes series such as Stargate, Legend and MacGyver. If we had more MacGyver items then they would certainly be included. As I said earlier, we're hoping that Richard's package arrives soon.
Regardless of the complaints, we appreciate your interest in the auction.

Hi Paul,
I'm always a bit concerned about 'shill bidding' within sites that do not have sufficient feedback &/or bidder profiles available. I don't see anything mentioned about it within your rules & regulations. Can you say a few words about your stand on the practice and how it's best monitored?
Thanks in advance and best of luck with your auction - you have some really great items up for grabs!!!!

QUOTE (KiwiTek @ 6 February 2014 - 04:03 PM) | Not sure how a proxy is an unofficial reserve? Proxy is just automatic bidding up to you're chosen amount. The reserve is the minimum price the seller wants the bidding to reach before they will let the item go. Not sure how you correlate those two together. |
Well, on Ebay it works like this..... A low starting bid, no reserve auction is sure to attract the most attention and associated salivating. Now everybody is champing at the bit for (say) that signed RDA nugget. Done, instant frenzy starting at $9.99 Wow ,,,,,,,
But I want to get at least a $1000.00 for that knife ..... so I open another account and place a proxy bid for $999.00 and if somebody outbids me for that (for all intents & purposes) 'reserve' - they're welcome to it. If not and I inadvertently win it myself, I can either file a nonpaying bidder claim & relist it or buy it off myself and again relist it at a later date & until I get the price I want. Got it?
I'm not saying that this is the case at all with this charity auction .... but there's a number of routine checkpoints that one usually goes through before placing a bid including checking all feedback of both the seller and they're history of bidders plus their bidding rules & regulations (if any) and with this particular auction site/format any due diligence as such seems much harder to carry out.
