I have a feeling that many are not taking this as seriously as I would of liked...

I hope the casting directors put a bit more thought into this than just, "Who has similar hair?"

Well with the player canceled I offer two options for this show

Philip Winchester as Macgyver: hear me out yes Alex Kane in the beginning is a little one note but throughout the show Winchester was able to show case a variety of emotions and had a strange sort of Macgyver feel to him.

Or

Wesley Snipes as either a very different Peter Thorton or the new head of DXS: hear me out Snipes was the best part of the player he was in the show a dark complex character with a great sense of humor and a good command of the other characters.

Like I said just a thought.

The irony is that I can actually see them casting an African American to play the role of Pete Thornton. This is the new turn they are taking in todays movies & shows. Like Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, Iris West in Flash, Jimmy Olsen in Supergirl.

Your recommendation of Philip Winchester as MacGyver is an interesting one but at aged 34, I fear he may be too old to play the role.

he is roughly the same age Richard Dean Anderson was when he started so I figure we could at least get 7 seasons out of him. He is from the mid west is a good actor (turning a one note Alex Kane into a some what interesting and multifaceted character) and can do the physicality of MacGyver quite well...


Like I said I would be over the moon if he was cast as he is now my number 1 choice.


As for Snipes Shrugs just trying to think outside the box as my number one choice Michael Chikles is stuck in Gotham (dam that show for ruining everything)

Justin Bruening or Robert Patrick "Robbie" Amell are easy on the eye.

I can't picture another actor playing the role of MacGyver. The series will be too modernized and less interesting...

So when does everyone think we will begin to hear casting news assuming this is green light and is coming fall 2016 I would guess either January or Febuary.

I'm sorry but Ross Lynch looks simply like a child to me. And I mean at a Justin Bieber level. He's 19 years old! He's still green behind the ears. He'd probably still have spots.

Philip Winchester... you know when he smiles he looks like Mac. He's got this wrinkles in his cheeks just like him. He comes close but I'm not convinced yet. Maybe I need to see him act first. But I have more faith in him than Ross Lynch.

Like Kiwi says, Mac is a person people look up to because he sees things others don't and helps them out doing things they otherwise never would. A certain positive authority, people would listen to.

Well this is what he looks like now and he's 20. So by the time the new MacGyver came out he would look much older.

the issue btw with ross Ellizabeth is I am assuming based on the original article CBS is planning to have Macgyver for the Fall 2016 season (I believe varaity said the reboot was top priority) So he would be far to young looking (and his age would be off) for the show


Which brings up another interesting point of what should they call the show I would hope just Macgyver but you never know.


The show If it comes out next fall the right actor in my opinion should be between 25-35.

Did any of us actually considered the actors who played young MacGyvers in the show? Sean Wohland (Blood Brothers) or Shane Meier (Harry's Will) or Shawn Donahue (Phoenix Under Siege). Interesting how they all have similar first names.

Macgyver Jr here sorry I haven't been on here in awhile I've been busy taking a survival corse so I've been busy with that. I have someone to play the part of macgyver in the new show. How about me lol I've watched every episode so much so I know all Macs mannerisms and all about him im not an actor but did take some drama classes in school
I just recently sent Richard Dean Anderson a get well card because he's been having probelms with his back and told him the same thing

it's not a bad idea a huge fan taking the role of Mac, however most likely that won't be happening. Personally I would like to see a movie instead of a new show.

I just favor the original MacGyver series, and I'm not a fan of movies or series that are remade...

True. Most are usually disappointments.

If it happens I will give it a shot. Like I said I now have in my mind's eye the perfect Macgyver and the perfect Peter Thorton for the reboot and I think the show could work out fantastically as I feel there are still stories and ideas regarding the character.
