hey ppl i just thought up of this, wen any hydride is put in water, it reacts giving off hydrogen and lots of heat right? so wud we get an explosion if we put the contents of a coupla NiMH in a bit of water?

For an explosion to occur, the force must be contained until it overcomes the constraint abruptly. NiMH cells are made with a vent, so no explosion.

It's an obvious safety concern; they wouldn't be able to sell them in much of the world if something as simple and common as exposure to water could trigger an explosion.

maybe v cud do it that "toilet bowl cleaner+ aluminium foil" way? if we put the powder from the batteries and the water into a pet bottle and screw it?
