New 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL will be available in early 2018.
The new redesign have much more details borrowed from previous generation Jeeps like CJ, YJ and TJ; for example the front grille reminds little bit TJ, because the flashers are again locating in front of the fenders. Also the grille is more straight and slightly tilting back, like in YJ and TJ. The round head light's curve is also very near that first slot, which is similar in CJ-5 and CJ-7.
The windshield's corners are more round like they used to be before the current JK model. There are also those classic hinges on each side of that windshield. In JK you see that the hinge is more on the center and more wider.
The hinges will make that windshield still foldable and if you fold it, the driver still have the A-Pillar on front. In current JK model, if you fold the windshield, you'll lose the A-Pillar and there's no proper rollcage for the driver.
Don't be upset, the 2018 Rubicon model will only have those black hood vents. The vents are not at all in those Base and Sport models. You can see that third vent near the windshield where the wipers are, that vent will be on every models like always have been, but on Base and Sport models it will be in body color.
To reduce the hood flutter in higher speeds, they added a vent next to those front fenders. They reduce the air pressure under the hood. They also redesigned the hood latches.
The Windshield angle is also slightly different. The whole Wrangler is also 200 pounds lighter (91kg) The hood, doors, windshield and rear trunk's door are all alumnium. But the rest of the body is still a steel body. There was some magnesium also added to trunk's door.
The rear fenders remind the ones in YJ (Mac's jeep). They have that same detailed side line on it. And you can see that there is a narrow grey line on side of those fenders. That detailed side line helped those fenders to have a second color.
The 2018 Wrangler will also get back the body colored rollcage. Body colored rollcage was I guess last time available in early 1990's YJ jeeps. In my understanding there are no soft padding around that rollcage, the designer mentioned the reason was becuase it's now more easier to clean, if you wash the interior. There are also drain plugs under the floor mats, so you can hose wash the floor, this feature has also been available many decades.
They also added details to the both drivers and passengers doors. In the past the CJ-7, YJ and TJ had a side line on side of the door. So they added similar to the new Wrangler.
