Well... that doesn't sound so promising. But who knows. The Script is from February; maybe they changed some dialogue? And reading a script and seeing the finished product isn't necessarily the same.
I do think the stakes are high with this reboot for CBS; especially if they need to fill a slot. Also, they might still make changes for cast, crew and budget.
The character of MacGyver of the original show wasn't set with the pilot, either.

Read the review but honestly I don't get his complaints like "there is too much action" and "Macgyver is like sheldon but handsome and Couragous" ok so it's like the 80's show but rebooted for our time.....and he complains that it is done now on our times?
Whatever I am taking what he thinks with a pound of salt however I like the macgyverisms mentioned and I don't mind Mac being kidnapped for 5 years again this is a different route of the original show but it's fine like I said weirdly enough the "bad review" actually has me more excited

I wonder if his comment ""Macgyver is like sheldon but handsome and Couragous"" is trying to say that this MacGyver is more of an annoying know it all like Sheldon Cooper is in TBBT? I hope that's not how he comes across, because MacGyver needs to be humble.
I see the review says " MacGyver gets recruited into the clandestine Phoenix Foundation" which is confusing. I thought it was going to be the DXS so it follows the original story more. Maybe he read an earlier script.
I guess you have to remember that this is only one persons view and it seems that his tastes may not be leaning towards the type of show MacGyver is anyway judging from his negative impressions of Scorpion (which is kind of like a team MacGyver.)
I wonder if that picture of Lucas is him in character for MacGyver?

I think that's an older, official photo of Lucas because in recent pics, his hair is much longer (down to his shoulders). Also, so far there have been no official pics from the production at all...

Decided not to read it and see it for myself when time is there.
I just got say one thing: never judge a book by it's cover. That goes for movies and tv-shows as well perhaps. Just because someone say it's bad doesn't mean it is bad. That's why I never agree with most reviews I read on movies. I can like the biggest trash of a movie and dislike classics as much.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

It doesn't sound like it could be good unfortunately. this guy clearly hates it and doesn't seem to find any redeeming parts about the story.
Let's hope it is better than what he says.
The problem I have with this guys review is that it's based on his personal taste and preference in TV shows.
He seems to hate Scorpion, which I quite like, so if he says the new MacGyver is like scorpion then I might enjoy it. But then again if more people hate Scorpion then like it and new MacGyver is similar, it might be in for a fast demise.
I think one thing CBS need to realize is that there are a lot of young fans of the old MacGyver, that means that todays viewers are watching this old show and liking it so there's still lot sof elements to the show which work even for todays viewers and don't need to be changed. The trick - I think - is working out what those elements are and not messing them up. Unfortunately with CBS's track record of how they have treated MacGyver thus far, I have little to no faith that they will spent any time keeping those elements in place. In fact looking at how they covered the last DVD release, you could question if they even understand or know what the show was about.
You mention CBS's track record with MacGyver, but CBS is an extremely big organisation. The creative department / production department / and DVD Sales department may not necessary talk to one another, or be in the same building or country for that matter.
For example the people who make and produce MacGyver, will have no involvement, control, or say in the design, manufacturing or distribution of the final mastered DVD. At CBS these would all be separate departments, who take over their aspect of the program once the show is finished filming and has aired on TV.
The treatment thus far of MacGyver may not all be down to CBS and may have stemmed by Paramount Pictures and ABC causing legal issues and difficulties with the handover process.
If CBS are treating this show with the integrity, passion and creative respect it deserves, then I am willing to forgive them for all the other stuff. A new chapter, a new beginning, and more years (seasons) of amazing adventures with MacGyver.

Interestingly though links and shares about this new MacGyver seem to get a lot less activity than stuff about the RDA MacGyver.
I guess because everything's been so quiet with this production?
People are still retweeting the original articles about Lucas Till being cast as the new MacGyver and about the Reboot in general; often clearly stating they just heard/read about it and asking questions.
If this show gets picked up, CBS really has to make up for the lost opportunity to get the word out there about this project....

I'm just thinking about the Knight Rider reboot in 2008. It's the only reboot I've ever followed from go to wo.
I may be remembering wrong, but I think they kept the pilot pretty under wraps and then did a big promo at comic con once they the show was picked up, so it may be common practice to not really promote pilot episodes, which kinda makes sense. Don't' count your chickens until their hatched...etc
The reboot of Knghtrider 2008 was made by NBC, and remember most of their money went into the SFX budget and it showed... the writing was dire, the cast wasn't great, and the tone of the show was all wrong. The promos were infinitely better than the really thing, never a good statement.
MacGyver is being made at CBS. They are investing in this show so as to replace the CSI void. Not happy with just a good script, they made a change within the writer's room. This is quite uncommon during a pilot phase of a project (and should be classed as a positive move, not a negative one), they seem to have cast a good group of actors which have a good pedigree. They have David Von Ancken directing and finally if the rumour I heard is true - Randy Edelman is penning the new theme tune.

Think I'll be sticking to my guns and wait for the trailer and/or the pilot. From there, I'll make my decision as I'm certain most of us will too. As most have stated, this is just one persons opinion of a possible early draft of the script so it is rather pointless to jump on board.

I agree with everyone here about taking the wait and see approach. Am I excited of course I am it's a new Macgyver adventure!!!! But for every Trail to Doomsday, Obsession, and blow out there was an Honest Abe and tough boys
Like I said I am hopeful and optimistic but realize there is a possibility of it not being good at all.

I think it is fairly obvious that at least Lee David Zlotoff has been trying for the better part of a decade to get Macgyver back in the spot light and I would argue Winkler is right next to him. Like I said I am willing to give this reboot a solid chance.
And while their have been premature reports in the past of a MacGyver Movie in the works, by New Line Cinema etc.
It is very clear to me, from listening to interviews by Zlotoff and media reports etc.. to read between the lines. Lee David Zlotoff has a huge amount of respect for MACGYVER, and the fans.
He doesn't want to make just any movie - he wants to make the best movie. He doesn't want to make just any series... he wants to make the best series he can.
Perhaps it was, with the above in mind that he pulled out of these earlier talks and negotiations, in the interest and the protection of the MacGyver brand and franchise.
Let's give him respect for that!
