The Safety Screwdriver works like this: when you apply pressure to the tip, it compresses a spring that pushes it back into the body of the knife about a millimeter, just enough so that it doesn't snap shut on you if you are using it. Handy stuff!

Thanks, Barry. BTW, which SAK has a safety screwdriver?

All the Wengers Denizen. It's the combination cap lifter/screwdriver tool. Press it against a solid object when it's open and you'll see it depress. Pretty neat stuff! BTW my son just bought a Spartan for me last night, my first, so I'm part of the club now!!

My primary SAK is a Victorinox compact. By definition a knife is a blade and that is what I use most, but all the other tools are always getting hand time. The screwdriver/opener/wire stripper is right there. The scissors are nice, but I often use the blade to cut with when there's a choice. The corkscrew is the one exception, so far I have only used it to hold a mini screwdriver.

My secondary SAK is a Victorinox Skipper. As always, blade comes first, followed by the marlinespike. The Phillips driver and pliers get used next.

My German army issue Victorinox is what I call back up or alternative. With that one I really like the robust locking screwdriver/opener/wire stripper. The saw is sometimes useful. The quick deploy blade is handy.

Some people may wonder why three knives with a lot of redundant tools and blades rather than just one with just one of everything. I just rather carry one or two at a time and not have such a big handful to work with.

The Compact is a nice one Scorpion. You can't beat the size! I've been eyeing one up, or its discontinued cousin, the Yeoman. I'm finding the longer I go, the more minimalist I'm becoming. I've my trusty Tinker on me right now, and don't feel underequipped. I guess it's all in where you are standing at the time!
