Today in MacGyver History. 1962 - 10 year old MacGyver's Father and Grandmother were killed when their car ran off the road and rolled in to Millers Creek while driving to the store to pick up some supplies during a rain storm.

This event was briefly discussed in the 'Runners' episode as being one of the 2 main life events which caused MacGyver to be so determined to help other people.

It was explained that in his mind he's still trying to run back to save his father and grandmother because he felt he let them down by not being there when they crashed.

Yep, another December 14th.

Because here's the report for that day: Duluth Weather Report Dec 14, 1962 Max temp was 16.3f(-9c) with 1.2inches of snow on the ground as of night fall. Albeit that's a little colder than the average Northern Mn. temp for December and rain is possible in that state in that month, but much more apt to be snow at that time of year. And, besides, the details of the crash do sound a lot more like a winter road accident, don't they!?

It tends to get winter on the upper half of the world in that month yes. I do like to get that cozy warm feeling when I see those scenes. MacGyver and Harry playing chess or draughts and MacGyver asking who Sam Hill is near the fireplace. But yeah, it sounds like a winter crash. When working on the timeline, MacGyver seems to have had tough times through certain times of the years. Sometimes a tough full year, sometimes during the winter. Maybe we never thought of it before but December seems like a tough month on Mac. I mean his father and grandmother died today and several years later his mother dies on Christmas. I think I can understand why he doesn't like having too many people around him and maybe especially during the holidays.
