I've seen something like this on his wrist in the interview videos on this site, so I'm thinking this is RDA's personal watch. I don't remember Mac (the character) wearing it specifically but I haven't gotten through the boxed set of DVDs either. smile.gif

MacGyver wore a similar watch to this from season 4 onwards.

LOL! Yeah, I helped to ID that one quite awhile ago now. I don't think the Breitling ever made a show apperance though, but like I said I'm sure I've seen it during the odd interview (Arsenio Hall) though. smile.gif

I really don't see Mac sporting a Breitling. I don't think he'd pay more than 200 dollars for a watch because he's not a man who tries to accumulate luxuries. If he had been given one by Pete for any reason, I believe he'd put it in his bed-side drawer and treasure it. But with his way of life, he knows only too well, that watches need to be cheap because he needs quite a couple of them - or parts of them.

Regards, J.W.

On the otherhand a more expensive good quality watch would last much longer and save him money in the long run.

I agree, I think Mac would have something that would be quality and dependable. Something that doesn't cost him a lot, but something that won't give out on him when he needs it most.

The first season watch is the iconic Mac watch to me. Timex, not water proof to a real depth but dependable. Something he could pry open and prob. clean himslef and maintain.

I think the Victorinox watch is probably the only one he wears in the show which would really meet his needs with ruggedness and water resistance. Plus it's not big and bulky so it fits comfortably under long and jacket sleeves and not so likely to get bashed around.

I agree, though the Timex could be repaired if it was ever worn in the water (like when he went scuba diving of the boat to get to some island-don't remember the episode). Overall though I think you're right. The Victorinox is the best fit. I also see the advantage of a manual wind watch that can be repiared and doens't have to rely on batteries. Never know when a EMP cannon aimed at a major city might de-juice your watch battery. wink.gif

The Timex can't be opened. Part of the cheap disposable design I talked about in my last post is that the case is a one piece unit made entirely of plastic. (even the "crystal" is just clear plastic. If anything breaks it gets thrown away and replaced with a new watch. So it can't actually be repaired. It could be dried out if water got in it, but other than that it's a throw away, which is why mine sits on the shelf in a watch display case now. I don't want anything to happen to my genuine MacGyver watch.

Not sure what the water resistance in on those original watches is but the newer version we have in our store has 30 meter resistance which makes it ok for short recreational swimming.

I was thinking of the scene in one episode where he pryed the crystal off with his knife blade and used it to refract a laser(?). I may not remember the right watch though. yeah mine gets very little wear too, usually only in winter when I know I won't be going swimming.

oh and the camper has a slightly larger version with date and WR to 50m which is excellent for swimming. I have an older quartz model that is similar and I use it for swimming quite often.

Your not thinking of The Human Factor when he uses the crystal from his watch rolled in a news paper to make a telescope so he can see the pin number the security guard enters are you? If you are that was a Trooper made by Rothco, who also make a GI Vietnam Era Type Military Wind-Up watch as well.

that might be it, I thought it was the Timex though. I guess they used both because they look very similar

Yep, they did use both, although I think the Trooper was only used (or seen) in a couple of episodes.

We get a good look at it in For Love or Money.

Watched Halloween Knights tonight and he is wearing this wristwatch in this episode, also in MacGyver's Women. There are probably others too, but these were the ones I just watched and could get a decent look at at what's on his wrist. smile.gif

The Brietling does seem a bit out of Macgyver's price range. I would guess it probably was a gift from someone. It could have been from Pete for all the work Mac had done for the Phoenix Foundation. On the other hand, it may have been out of Pete's price range too. The most expensive watch he wore was a Seiko probably worth a few hundred dollars at most. Mac has helped a lot of people over the years so it makes sense that one of them would reward him.

Its interesting when he wears the Brietling. In the first season, he was strictly a field agent for the DXS so field watches made sense. As time went by though, he began to take on a variety of different projects for the Phoenix Foundation, many of them not out in the field so he was able to change his style and watch a bit.

If an accurate, reliable, waterproof watch was a mission requirement then I think Phoenix would just issue him an appropriate one.

I have the Camper watch from the store and love it, but a buddy of mine has one he's had since the 80's and it's still ticking, albeit with numerous battery changes.
