Actually it takes ALOT of practice. Just a warning, don't try this while sitting on a horse. They don't appreciate getting stung in the rear and tend to take off running at a high rate of speed. I lost a dare and this was the task--fire a rock from a sling. It looks easy but its a lot harder than I thought it would be. I had the sling moving at a fairly good rate of speed when I dropped it by accident and the rock nailed my horse right above her tail. She took off like she'd been shot from a rocket launcher. I grabbed her arounfd the neck and hung on. I think we stopped before we crossed the county line. My friend who set me up was laughing so hard I thought she would need oxygen. Needless to say, I confined my rock slinging to the ground.
