I was thinking that as the titles were usually as brief a description of MacGyvers "fixes" of a situation, what was needed for his MacGyverisms, the title of "Skyscraper - Power" makes sense to me, they're gonna turn off the power in a Skyscraper, probably in some really flash manner as it's nearing the end of Season 2, and OMG that's gone so quickly!

Or it's a boring descriptor meaning their inside a Skyscraper and the power goes out, it would be a huge likelihood for Jack to bring up his Bruce Willis quotes, which should be a great laugh I'm so looking forward to this next episode, why was there a 2 week hiatus? Anyone? I saw Justin Hires Instagram video explaining they'd be back on in 2 weeks, but he didn't say why! I've seriously missed it and have replayed almost every episode in this series to date again, lol Anyways, loving all your posts, great to be here!

Probably because of March madness, which means basketball games. All month. Don't know if you guys have that in Australia or not, but it messes up programming in the U.S. all the time in March.

'One Life to Live' Alum Kamar de los Reyes Teases His Guest Role on 'MacGyver'

Looks like Kamar de los Reyes is returning to his cop roots!

Fans of the dearly-departed One Life to Live may remember the actor best as Antonio Vega, the former gang member turned eventual chief of detectives. Since leaving the ABC soap in 2009, the actor has guest-starred in a number of series, from The Mentalist to Sleepy Hollow. And now, he's putting his police hat back on for a guest-starring role on the April 20 episode of MacGyver.

The episode of the CBS drama, titled "Wind + Water," sees MacGyver travel to Puerto Rico to help a friend rebuild his home damaged by Hurricane Maria. While there, he's taken hostage by robbers in a bank, and that's when de los Reyes' Captain Delarosa steps in as first in charge of hostage standoff.

This role is especially important to the Puerto Rico native who has been hard at work—alongside brother Daniel de los Reyes of the Zac Brown Band—providing Hurricane Maria relief. The two even started non-profit DayGLOW Music.

Below, the TV veteran spills on his new gig, his surprising connection to MacGyver star George Eads, and what this episode means for the people of PR. Plus, find out if he'll ever reprise his OLTL role!


After years of playing cop Antonio Vega on One Life to Live, does this role on MacGyver feel familiar?

Kamar de los Reyes: This role is just a little more mature than the Antonio role—certainly Antonio helped me with the buildup. But each role for me is really different and every writer has a different intention. When I finish one role, I try to leave that role behind and create something completely different.


How is Captain Delarosa different from Antonio?

Antonio was really always shooting from his sleeve and from his heart. This guy’s a little more procedural and by the book—until, of course, he’s called to do otherwise. You'd think Jason killing that many people would beat all. But nope!


It sounds like your character and Meredith Eaton’s Matty get off to a rough start. What can you tell us about that?

Well, Captain Delarosa comes in and he’s in charge. I guess Matty’s used to being in charge, so of course they’re going to butt heads. They have a different perspective on what is really going on and how to handle the situation. He feels like his shoes are being stepped on and he’s telling everybody to back off, that he’s got this under control. But then he realizes this is way over his head and he’s going to need their help.


Which other cast members did you get to interact with?

Tristan Mays (Riley Davis) — she was fantastic and really, really sweet and accommodating. But mostly it was with George [Eads who plays Jack Dalton].


George is a TV veteran like yourself. Had you worked with him before?

You know, I hadn’t. I was, of course, familiar with George because he had worked on CSI for many years and that was a show that a very dear friend of mine, Anthony Zuiker, created. He was my best friend first through eighth grade, we grew up together in Las Vegas.


Wow, what a small world! Now, this episode takes place in Puerto Rico, and I know you’ve been outspoken about the continued need for relief on your native island.

I was in Puerto Rico four days after Hurricane Maria. My beautiful island that’s usually covered in beautiful, lush, green foliage was now barren and brown, as if an atomic bomb had gone off and everything had been laid flat. It was extremely traumatizing. I dealt with, I suppose, a version of PTSD for 10 days before I was started to come out of the rabbit hole. It was very, very difficult.

And then my brother [Daniel de los Reyes] and I put our heads together and decided that we needed to do something… We decided that the best way to help the American people of Puerto Rico would be to use our talents and one of those talents is music. With the help of Delta, we could bring up to 10 70-pound bags of relief supply per person. We would do that and we would bring musical instruments. We had some boots on the ground who would go out to verify which families and which neighborhoods needed relief supply the most, and then we hand-delivered those supplies ourselves. We finished by playing music, just trying to let them know that we care about them. Through music, we can create hope and bring a smile to their faces, so that’s what we continue to keep doing.


Did you film this episode in Puerto Rico?

They did a really great job of creating a location in Atlanta to look like Puerto Rico, I was really impressed. I wish we could have gone but what they’re doing is really amazing because it’s going to bring attention to the situation. It’s gotten better but there’s still over 100,000 people without electricity, running water or communication, and that’s crazy in this day and age.


Did you reach out to the MacGyver producers when you found out they were doing an episode around hurricane relief?

My manager was looking through the [season] breakdown, saw the episode, and reached out to their team. [He] let them know what I was doing as far as Puerto Rico, and they back to my team and said, ‘We want to offer him the role and we want him to be part of this episode.’ It was perfect… to just be a part of this so we can continue to bring some awareness to this horrifying situation.


Any chance we’ll see you on the show again?

Not that I’m aware of. I’m always hopeful when it comes to that sort of thing, obviously I didn’t get killed off. But unless they come to Puerto Rico or bring me to the States, probably not. But you certainly will see me on other CBS shows and I’ve got some other coals in the fire. I’m also producing a show that I’m keeping my fingers crossed on. Hopefully, you guys will be seeing that sooner than later.


I have to ask—many OLTL vets have reprised their characters on General Hospital. Do you think you’d ever return to Antonio?

No, his chapter is closed in my heart. I cut those ties in 2009—I think he came full circle and I think he’s done, I’m certainly done. I had an amazing time and I will be forever grateful to One Life to Live, Antonio Vega, and, of course, my wonderful fans for the time I spent there. But yeah, I’ve moved on.

According to The Futon Critic, episode 2x23 is called, "MacGyver + MacGyver". I guess that's the episode when we meet Mac's dad? Why else would it have that title?

Oh, that makes perfect sense.

In an interview back in January, Peter Lenkov had promised we’re going to meet MacGyver’s father by the end of the Season. So now after all that build-up this season, this has to happen before the Summer hiatus or some viewers will not return for another season (although that still might happen once they realize it's not RDA).

I think it would be sad if fans held it against the show if RDA didn't want to be a part of the finale. It's possible of course, but let's hope not. I think it would have been awesome but only if all the parties involved wanted it to happen. Dash, I really liked your suggestion about the 'possible casting calls'. Let's hope Lenkov and crew doesn't let us down.

They want to keep the "Holy Trinity" for Friday intact which enhances the chance of the schedule staying the same if all 3 shows get renewed - there are speculations that they might give "Magnum" the timeslot of the Reboot and move MacGyver somewhere else, but I somehow doubt it. CBS is rather conservative and the Friday schedule works as it is, so why "fix" it if it's not broken. Also two Hawaiian shows back to back (both H50 and Magnum are filmed in Hawaii) might be a bit much. Also, Magnum might be more like H50 when it comes to violence and heavy topics (child trafficking etc.) so it might not be appropriate to put it on a 8pm-timeslot.

I totally worried about them switching out Magnum and MacGyver. My thoughts about Magnum being more along the lines of Hawaii Five 0 in violence had me hoping that if they did put it on Friday that it might take Blue Bloods spot. Of course they haven't picked up Magnum yet, but I think they will considering their success with reboots. Blue Bloods has a dedicated following and I think it would fair better with a move than MacGyver, but I hadn't thought about your point of putting two back to back Hawaii produced shows together as redundant. You could very well be right. They could move one of them to Sunday. Isn't NCIS LA on then? It's not ideal, but possible. I wish they would just say something. It's strange that it is looking like they may actually wait until May to confirm any renewal. Hawaii Five 0 has done really well in ratings but I wonder if it's renewal is a sure thing.

Mysterious object? Kinda reminds me of, "Kill Zone" for some reason.

If either H50 or Blue Bloods gets cancelled it would make sense to put "Magnum" in the open timeslot. Also, if there's a crossover between Magnum and H50 (and I guarantee there will be one; with both being filmed in Hawaii by the same network with the same EP), it would be great to have them back to back already for a "big" crossover instead of a "small" one like they did for the Reboot.

But both Magnum and H50 back to back every Friday; so 2 shows set in Hawaii? I'm not sure if that's the best idea. Did they ever do that with the CSI- or NCIS-Shows?

The hold-up for the renewal announcements might be because there's apparently new contract negotiations for H50 (both lead actor's contracts are up this season) and NCIS.

But I think even if either Scott Caan or Alex O'Loughlin quit, they might renew the show. Two main cast members exited last Season and yet H50 got even better ratings than last year. Because it's such a big cast, even the main heroes don't appear in every episode (and the ratings never drop just because either McGarrett or Danno is not present). Also, O'Loughlin just talked about staying for Season 9 - he might be deep into contract negotiations for a big payrise (stalling is a well-known tactic for TV stars because the ratings for H50 are just too good for CBS to pass if he's demanding a big payrise; they sure will try to keep him on board; especially now that they're saving money with 2 main stars exiting last year).

According to Deadline, the Magnum Pilot is the most expensive for CBS this year and we know what happened with the Reboot back then - I think even if they're not happy with the pilot, they would rather have Lenkov reshoot some scenes or redo the pilot after exchanging some cast members instead of dropping the project completely. They want to bank on the franchise like they did with MacGyver.

I don't have the schedule in mind, but some shows (e.g. "Wisdom of the crowd") are already cancelled. Also, there's still the possibilty to shove some shows onto The CW (e.g. "Scorpion" because they might just renew it to get it ready for syndication). If CBS is willing they will find an open slot for their shows. And I think MacGyver is too much of a well-known brand to just let it drop.
