In first season in episode Ugly Duckling, Mac drove by Jeep CJ7, but season 2 to up, Mac drove by 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ.

It's very possible that the somebody still owns the Mac's jeep today, but it's also possible that the jeep looks like this

One of my biggest questions about his Jeep is how they mounted the winch fairlead. Is a winch actually mounted down low, or did they just mount a fairlead on it.

I always wanted a Jeep Wrangler. I'm actually looking into getting a new vehicle next year. I currently drive a truck, but I was trying to decide between the new Dodge Dart and the Jeep Patriot. Now, I'm kinda sold on getting a Wrangler. One of my friends has one and it's just... so nice!

That picture looks like some sort of evil robot skeleton. Like something out of the robot wars in the Terminator movies.

Wuddaya talkin about?!! That jeep isn't sad, it looks like it's about to be rebuilt into shiny new awesomeness! Or possibly being cannibalized to breathe new life into another needy jeep...

But see kids? This is mother nature at work.

Actually there's at least two jeeps in the end, but in the years those two has changed a lot. On one of the jeeps (The Eraser) the dash is in a light color but the seats are black. Later on it became black/gray and the dent in the side was manufactured on one of the Jeeps. I think there are some pictures here in the Jeep gallery, also in the "Birthday" episode the jeep has some kind of clearcoat when they are trying to get it up.

Actually, I was just thinking the other day if the Wrangler in the second season was different then what Mac drives in later seasons. I just figured it seemed different because he didn't have the doors on it.

In any case, there's a brown Wrangler in town that I always see and it makes me think of Mac's Jeep. It's a light brown though.

Is it just me, or does his Jeep almost come off as it's own character? The episodes Birthday and the Negotiator both kinda gave me that feeling. It's more then just a tool or a vehicle, but more like his trusty steed. lol

Then again, maybe I'm just weird. XD

"Trusty Steed" is probably a good way to describe it and I think many fans would agree with you that it was somewhat of a character in the show. Especially when you consider that many fans didn't like the change of vehicles he went through in later seasons.

I actually didn't mind the vehicle switches all that much... I just preferred the Jeep over the rest of them. Oh, and I LOVED his motorcycle.

Anyone ever notice that the bike and jacket he pulls out of storage in High Control seems to be the same bike and jacket from Flame's End? lol I noticed that when I was doing some research while posting in another thread... and I got sidetracked. XD

Not a big fan of Mac with those kinda bikes. He'd look way cooler on a dirt bike, and it would be more in line with him owning a jeep, both being off road-ish type vehicles.

I'd like to have a jeep someday. Also like to have some element of MacGyver built into it, but other than the color I can't think of anything. Uuugh, mount a swiss army knife to the dashboard? I dunno! ::shurgs::

This is just me, but I don't see Mac with a dirt bike. I think it's because he's a big guy, and a motorcycle kinda fits that independent/loner personality of his. Kinda like his Jeep fits the explorer side of his personality.

Though not the biggest fan of some of his other vehicles, I think they all were supposed to show a different side of his personality. I just think the Jeep suited his personality the best. His bike is second. The others... I haven't figured those out yet. XD

I always wanted a Wrangler myself. I hope to get one next year after my move. But for now, I have a well used and love 2001 Dodge Dakota. It's kinda MacGyver-ish because it's fairly basic, but has a V8 engine and 4-wheel drive. Great for all the snow and ice we get up here. It's got an amazing heater and runs great for how old it is. I can post pics if you guys want.

I love pick-ups trucks; They're cool.

HAHA! I just figured it was always dirty and he just never washes the poor thing. It always looks like it needs a good hose down. XD

Then again... it's the mud that keeps it together... and duct tape. How much punishment has that poor vehicle endured through out the series? I do love how worried he got in Soft Touch when Penny takes his Jeep and he's like... My Jeep!?

I originally posted this comment over a year ago, sans picture, so here it is again, with a screen cap from the episode "Renegade".

Given that the color of Mac's Jeep looks like nothing else on the road nor like any paint job offered by Chrysler, I think that the original color of one of the two Jeep Wranglers that served as Mac's Jeep was brown. This is based on the screen cap below. The inside edge of the door is brown and the interior of the door is camel color.

Here is a shot of Mac's Jeep from the episode "The Eraser". Again we can see the camel color interior with the black seats. I think this is the same jeep used in the episode "Renegade".

The only thing I wonder about, is the two tone interior (camel and black) factory issued or was it pieced together by the prop or transportation department? I've seen a few brown '87 Wrangler Laredos over the years and they have all had an all camel color interior (seats, dashboard, carpet, role bar covers, etc.) with the exception of the manual transmission levers, dashboard gauges, seat belts, etc.

I found this pic online. You can clearly see the seats are camel colored.

In the pic I have seen with the two jeeps on the studio lot, I noticed that both jeeps have the "dent" that was caused in "Birth Day" even though one has the fog lights but the other does not. Just an interesting observation...

Just a passing bit of trivia... Does anyone recognize the officer that asks for the binoculars in "Birth Day"?

I had forgotten that until you mentioned it here. You're right, it is weird seeing him with hair after having watched J*A*G for so many years.

MacGyver's jeep didn't have the colored padding on the cage. which explains why he has black roll cages instead of tan, but I have no explanation for why he has black seats instead of tan ones to match his dashboard. Although you will note that in season 2 the interior was all black.

Also in season 5's Easy Target when see the jeeps dials and radio die from being hit with the EMP the interior isalso all black.

Do maybe one of the jeeps has a mix'n'match interior and the other is full black?

One of the Jeep Wranglers Mac drove was definately originally brown. Besides the interior door panel color being camel and the inside edge of the door being brown in the episode "Renegades", you can see the inside edge of the window frame was also left brown, as seen in "The Eraser", when he's waiting to tail Linda. If I'm not mistaken, "The Eraser" was the only episode to feature the Jeep with the camel color interior. I have yet to determine what the original color of the second Jeep, the one with the black interior, was.

Out of curiosity, what interior color did everyone like better? I liked the camel color.

I like the jeeps when they had the open top and no doors (are all of them convertible?) and like the black interior better. If they are all convertible are the doors always optional, so you can have the roof but no doors like in Phoenix under siege?

The roof, whether soft or hard is removable as are the doors.

My mother had an '87 Wrangler Laredo with the hard top. While it was a two person job, it was great running around with the top off! We got a bikini top for it, which cut down on some of the wind.

I think Birthday might be the only episode we get good looks at the tires.

Unfortunately the DVD quality isn't very good so we might have to wait for the HD version.

The tires are GoodYear Wrangler Radials. 225 should be the size. I have owned several YJs and have studied the ones on the show. I can share more info in another post.
