I guess this means they are rebooting the reboot?
So are we calling it now "MacGyver Reboot 2016b,"MacGyver Reboot 2016 the Second" or "MacGyver Reboot 2.0" with the "Unaired Pilot used for the promo that shall not be mentioned ever again"?
I wonder how they refer to it in the CBS MacGyver meetings when they talk about it. Maybe they refer to it as "mistake", "the other Version" or "that Thing we did"
I feel sorry for director Von Ancken and everyone involved in the first Version, though... it's like your work never existed in the first place. Can you even put that on a resume if you're applying for another Job?

I would think this kind of thing is pretty normal. Lots of pilots are made but never go any further.
I'm sure everyone involved would rather have the work and pay check of an unaired pilot every week than got for weeks on end with no work at all.
There would be no point putting an unaired pilot on your resume because potential employers can't see your work on it so it means nothing to them. You want references where they can actually see your work on.

I would think they would still put it on a resume, though. The vast majority of us put work experience on our resumes that nobody else can actually see (my job, for example, isn't a job that actually produces/creates anything, yet I would still put it on a resume.) I'd think the people who worked on the pilot would also have footage to keep in their portfolio, even if it never gets aired, kind of like how models maintain a portfolio from photoshoots, even if they aren't yet being used in advertisements, etc. (admittedly, though, I never worked in the entertainment industry, so this is just an assumption on my part.)

I think, in true Macgyver fashion, the would simply refer to it as "Plan B" and keep on rolling

Well. We don't know how much of an extent. They only "heard" our negative reaction to the trailer. We can only hope they attempt a more thought out pilot.

Doubtful.
Initial reactions are often followed by general feedback. They listen to that feedback and make a better pilot. It is common for pilots to be re-shot. Thats why there are usually unaired pilots in shows. Sometimes the stars they used or the plot or even the look didn't quite match up.
Often though, the re-shot pilot still looks and feels the same with minor changes.

LOL! That's hilarious! XD
The fact they listened to fans is a good thing. I agree with you denizen... I feel a bit more confident with the reboot as well. I'm still on my fence, but I am watching...
"Walk in love. Walk in service. And you will walk in honor." (Good Knight MacGyver) "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." - Albert Einstein "What are ferrets made of? Happiness."
It also shows that they are building a very strong team of writers / producers etc that will take charge of the program and series. It is most important (in any show) to have a very good team (or production support network).
You may be surprised at this static but here is the breakdown of the time spent working on a TV / Film.
Pre-Production 60% (Planning Stage)
Production 20% (Filming Stage)
Post Production 20% (Editing to Final delivery Stage)
Over half the time is spent in the pre-production process because it is such a critical part of the process.
Hope this was helpful?
