Do you still recognise MacGyver?

23 years ago the last episode of MacGyver was aired. These pictures proof that time hasn't stopped. The brisk action hero from than enjoys life now with a moustache and a belly. Talk about transformation.

There was a time Richard Dean Anderson (65) was a man who could escape the weirdest situations with house, kitchen and garden stuff. Now he lives a simple life in Los Angeles.

There's no doubt: the American actor left his marks on the television landscape. After all these years even the hashtag #MacGyverism spiced with all inventive solutions u can think remains intact.

After 'MacGyver' Richard Dean Anderson became Colonel Jack O' Neill for the television show 'Stargate SG-1'. In 1996 he found love with Apryl Prose, two years later he became the proud daddy of daughter Wylie Quinn. From then on Richard Dean slowly builded down his career to take care of his family.





Funny, they always seems to get snapshots or interview him when he's doing groceries.

Also the reactions on the articles are very positive about him.

1. An known American without attitude. A dying species.

2. He's always nice to people who recognise him, no? I've seen those car commercials a few years ago where he makes fun of himself and his weight.

12. Almost unrecognizable! Sometimes we think we never 'change', until we see a picture of thirty years ago. I hope we age gracefully.

13. In the last episodes of Stargate - in SG Universe he made a few appearances, I think - he clearly gained weight. Now he really started to enjoy life. He deserves it and he still one of my favorite actors.

14. An old cigar box was my MacGyver kit for years. Hiking with the backpack there was always what presented a solution (pin, ammonia, bottle, cotton balls, tin foil, it was all in there)... 'copy behaviour of myself, I suppose?

15. MacGyver was great. I wouldn't recognise him if I met him. Such a change of face.

16. Unrecognizable, that's right, but I think he looks like an awesome dude.

Usually when I read reactions on articles they are very negative but in this case... what a switch.

Thats because hes a shopaholic!

At the Starfest Q&A he mentioned that he's lost 20 pounds and IS going to lose 15 more. I thought he looked great.

It's a very MacGyver thing to do.

Ohhh... he's getting back into shape?

I wonder if there's a specific reason... possibly relating to 30 years ago?

An unresolved date maybe?

I am impressed that he managed to smile for the camera when he knew all along that their main purpose was thinly veiled body-shaming.

There was some group a year or two ago that made a fat-shaming meme for an actor named Wentworth Miller who was the lead in "Prison Break" (I think he still is as they're bringing it back). He fought back quite graciously, by saying that he had been clinically depressed at the time the picture had been taken and he wasn't going to be ashamed of that, indeed, he would make a point of trying to raise mental health issues via social media.

It's an old picture ...and they call themselves journalists .
In Ghent during the Sunday q&a panel ,he apologized for being out of shape in the past .He doesn't have to apologize (!) .
As MacFan 092985 said, he has lost weight...and he looked great in Belgium .

You are so right. He doesn't have to apologise. It's his body, not ours!


I am as guilty of making assumptions as anyone else. I saw those pictures when they appeared on yahoo news and, though I thought they were (in a small way) invading his privacy and definitely body-shaming, I did think something along the lines of "yeah, he has let himself go". I didn't know about the many injuries he'd had to deal with.

For a while, I felt almost guilty watching him on TV, thinking that if he hadn't played , he might have suffered fewer injuries. Then I realised he'd probably have taken just as many risks over the course of the years. Even if he had spent 1985-92 playing an office worker, he'd probably have done dangerous things in his spare time.

You know 'journalists'.They enjoy showing actors /actresses when they were young(er) and then old(er) (before/after).Specially when they don't look so good.

RDA has(had I hope) ups and downs .We can admit that (because of his stunts in MacGyver he got hurt many times).
But he looks great at present (I think,apart from his arm and considering his past health issues and age ...).

The sad part is that are plenty of newer, better pictures of him where he looks great!

I never liked how the media always takes something and makes it so negative... it's awful.

Just the same, there aren't many Hollywood actors or actresses that I'd love to hang out with, but he is at the top of that very short list!

Ditto Barry... RDA is on the top of my list too, which is also very short. I'm hoping if RDA gets to PA, I can go visit Dad and drag him along with me.
