Preliminary ratings are in: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/the-...d-1-5-2018.html

This is the Season 2 high so far. Even if the ratings are adjusted down a bit, this episode still had about half a million more viewers than Episode 2x07 (which holds the record for S2 so far) and a million more than the last Episode 2x11. Well done!

About the German letter in the gift that MacGyver got from his father... Here's my translation.

The screenshot was done by https://enchantedblackforest.tumblr.com/pos...182963/macgyver who also took a shoot at translating it.

Well, I'm no interpreter, so a real interpreter might exchange/shift some words around and I did add some words (in brackets), but the translation should make sense to you although the content probably doesn't tongue.gif

Dear Mr. Müller!

((...)) I am finally able to tell you that I have found two boys, (and that) one of them sure will please you. One of them is Sepp Piehl, born on March 11th in 1937 and one is Eugen Bartel, born on December 3rd in 1935.

((....))

Please tell me in advance if you're in need of accommodation for the night. I will try accordingly (to organize it for you). Identity papers are required.

Please respond to me until December 22nd "198" ((can't make out the year, sadly)) if I can count on your visit to Oberweis on January 4th.

Regardless, I ask you for the completion of the enclosed health papers for you and ((...)) forms (will be given) directly.

Furthermore, I hope I was able to give you a special Christmas present with today's message.

OMG. I should have just googled it in the first place before trying to translate it *LMAO*

Apparently, this is a real letter. You can find the unredacted and translated version here, along with the description: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Leb..._document_1.jpg

I have no clue why MacGyver's dad would want him to have these kind of documents.

Lebensborn letter of 18 December 1943 to a German citizen Karl Müller, with the announcement that two boys were found, Sepp Piehl and Eugen Bartel by name, one of which he would likely find acceptable as adoptee. Both were deemed to be of suitable age for his household. The boy referred to as Eugen Bartel, was a Polish child which RuSHA in Lodz destined for "re-Germanization".

Lebensborn is said to have forged a birth certificate in which his name was converted from the original Eugene Bartczak. The document derives from the archives of the former RuSHA in Lodz.

18 Dec. 1943
To Mr.
Karl Müller
Richrath / Langenfeld
Rietherbach St. 11

R IV / I - A. E. - 023 - Hei / MHW -
Subject: placement of a child
Reference: Preceding correspondence
Condition: proof of health (2 persons)

Dear Mr. Müller!
I am pleased to finally announce that I have found two boys, one of which you will most likely approve. They are Sep Piehl, born on December 3rd, 1935, and Eugen Bartel, born on March 11th, 1937. I believe that at least one of them is of an age that is well-suited to your household. The children currently live in Oberweis (Upper Danube). Arrange to take the 6:19 train leaving Gmunden on January 4, 1944, and arriving in Oberweis at 6:37. If you need overnight accommodation, confirm with me and I will arrange it. It is necessary that you bring your identification papers with you.
Please notify me no later than December 22, 1935, whether I can expect you in Oberweis on January 4.
In any event, please complete the accompanying proofs of health for yourself and your wife. The authorized departmental or SS physician will, as is standard, provide me with the completed forms.
I hope that my news to you has given you special Christmas joy.

You can find more about the RuSHA trial here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RuSHA_trial

The RuSHA trial against the SS racial policies of genocide (officially, United States of America vs. Ulrich Greifelt, et al) was the eighth of the twelve trials held in Nuremberg by the U.S. authorities for Nazi war crimes after the end of World War II.

Apparently, the indictments were

1) Crimes against humanity (e.g. in furtherance of "racial purity" programmes by kidnapping children)
2) War crimes for the same reasons.
3) Membership of a criminal organization, the SS.

The four Lebensborn members were not found guilty on counts 1 and 2 of the indictment. The tribunal considered the Lebensborn society not responsible for the kidnapping of children, which was carried out by others.

Hmmm.... Is everyone to busy to comment, except for Dash? Well, guess I'll give my insight, then.

I thought it was pretty good episode. So Cage survived, and the fact that she needs a very long recovery period writes her out of the show for a while, I guess.

Was that Mac's father in the picture? He doesn't look like anyone I recognize. I wonder if the producers will be able to wow us with a big reveal at the end of the season or not...

I think my favorite scene was Jack's singing. Well, technically I like everyone's reaction to his singing. I've never seen Mattie try so hard not to laugh!

I think that this was Jack's second Fonzie reference in the series. Nice treat for me, since I'm a Happy Days fan, too. Of course, with Henry Winkler as executive producer, how can you NOT make a reference? tongue.gif

I think this was the best episode so far.....loved the back and forth showing Mac/Jack relationship. Mac was so intense the entire show. What character. Kind of wished they showed more of them fiding Cage BUT, it would’ve cut down on the rest of the show. Hospital scene and music was superb! Glad to see ratings are up. My hope is that this show goes on for many more seasons. Writers do a great job. I still think Cage should go. Too many cooks in the kitchen. The storyline about his father gets more interesting and suspenseful week after week. Like that a lot. We don’t know much about Jack, however. Hope Billy Baldwin returns in his role and of course, Murdoc....my FAVORITE. Thanks for listening

Apparently, I have no life laugh.gif

I had expected there to be hospital bed scene with Cage propped up on dozens of pillows and everyone wishing her a speedy recovery or something. Or maybe Mac at her bedside (like in 2x09 when Cage was with Mac when he woke up).

Her name is gone from the opening credits which means she's either gone for good or she's coming back as a recurring - but if she's coming back as a recurring, it felt weird to me that we didn't even get a few seconds of visual "proof" she made it.

I've been preaching that she should have been a recurring to begin with, but this seems... I don't know. Just have a weird feeling about this. For now, they could mention in an upcoming episode she's gone to rehab/back home and we'll never see her again like they didn't even want to grant her a goodbye-scene blink.gif .

Storywise, I think she HAS to come back at least in the Season Finale because of the fact Murdoc knows something about her we don't (yet). Also, she might be part of the Plot Twist surounding Mac's father. Because there will be one, I'm sure of it.

Here's a screenshot of one of the other documents. It's a leaflet about the correct handling of a "Panzerfaust" (Google Translate says "bazooka").

Another document contains notes about troops movements and there's also a note that Germany has been freed from the Nazis.

It seems like a loose bunch of documents; not sure if they belong to a single dossier.

Most documents are from 1943/1944 and I think Mac's father is too young to have been a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. Age-wise, even Mac's grandfather might be too young.

One could argue that Mac would have known if his father/grandfather had a tattoo like that, but of course there are ways to get rid of them.

Did we ever know what Papa MacGyver's job was? Because if he was sitting on these kinds of documents, it may have been job- or research-related? Also, I'm not sure if this somehow ties to Cage (since Murdoc mentioned she wasn't using her real name and the letter refers to Polish and other non-German children who were kidnapped and adopted; getting a new German name to hide the crime).

So... since MacGyver mentioned that this is his grandfathers house and the mortgage is already paid off... should we assume that Harry is dead?

Whenever Mac talked about Harry in S1, it was never established if his grandfather is still alive or not. I guess they wanted to keep the possibility open in case RDA changes his mind about an appearance in the Reboot?

We've seen Harry in a Flashback in 2x04 by now, but I guess they don't have much intention of bringing him back for more or to make him older to play a part in the present.

I don't really have one either... I mean, I just poured most of my weekend into Mass Effect 3, which I finished at about... 4AM this morning.

ANYWAY, I just finished the episode and it was pretty good! Nice throwback to the original's Countdown. Except... Charlie lived in this one.

It's getting kinda interesting with Ghost... I'm not sure, but it almost seems like Ghost might be connected with Mac's Dad as well, but that's just a hunch.

Ought to be interesting if Cage, Matty and Ghost are all in on Mac's father disappearing.

...interesting... hmm.bmp

Final Ratings are in: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/show...s-1-5-2018.html

The audience numbers were adjusted down a bit, but not much. So the Episode still holds the record for S2 by far.

Interestingly, Episode 1x12 after Christmas Break last year also had almost a million more viewers than the preceding one (and along with Episode 1x15 the 3rd-highest rating of 1.2). After 1x12, no following episode made nearly as much viewers and despite a few ups every now and then, tendency was falling.

At the moment, he statistics says tendency for S2 is upwards. We'll see what happens. There was no press release, but it looks like they've ordered an additional Episode since the CBSSI show page says S2 has 23 episodes.

Yes, it was a nice throwback; especially since that was kinda missing in Episode 1x06. Charlie was the Easter Egg, but there wasn't much more to it. I've been wondering if they might kill Charlie off after all if it comes to a big showdown with the Ghost in the Season Finale... since Cage lived, they've never killed of one of the "main" characters so far and Charlie might be a "safer" choice (than e.g. one of the main cast or MacGyver's dad).

Also, we actually did see The Ghost in 1x06, but the actor wasn't in the credits for this episode (although we saw him on Riley's computer screen video footage; leaving the perimeter). He was such a slender figure in profile and seemed to have light hair (instead of dark hair as in 1x06); so I've wondered if that's the role Michael Des Barres will be playing? hmm.bmp

(It wasn't MDB in this episode, but since The Ghost isn't listed in the credits anyway it was probably just an extra or one of the Stand-Ins.)

Never noticed that! This could get interesting if they do decide to use MDB for this guy.

Hmmm.... Is everyone to busy to comment, except for Dash?

I thought it was pretty good episode. So Cage survived, and the fact that she needs a very long recovery period writes her out of the show for a while, I guess.

I noticed she was gone out of the opening credits, too. I have never been a fan of her character so I was pretty glad when we didn't have a hospital scene, but like you said it seemed strange and I wonder if they now wish they hadn't tied her into the mystery with Murdoc. I know it's beating a dead horse but I do think it could have been different and she might have made an interesting recurring character that would have been fun. I do think it's telling that her absence wasn't even mentioned so much on Twitter or other forums. It's almost like she didn't leave a mark whereas characters like Charlie and Murdoc are well-loved. She might have been like that if they had used her differently. And like I believe, Dash has said before I DONT want them to introduce a new regular for next season if we are given another season, which I really hope we are!!

Murdoc's always been well-loved, back in the original as well. I'm not sure why Charlie is so popular, though, unless everyone just loves him as a homage to the original. I have nothing against him or anything, I'm just not sure why he's so popular.

And I have to ask, am I the only one on these forums who actually likes Cage? Some people on twitter admitted they like her after she got shot, but she's so unpopular for some reason. unsure.gif

I'm going to completely straight on that....

I don't hate Cage. I just didn't like how she was presented. I thought she was just another cliched love interest for Mac, and her seduction scene was very cringe inducing. I'm not a guy, so Cage's "sex appeal" doesn't work for me.

Some may try to claim jealousy, but Lucas Till is ten years younger than I am, and I have zero attraction to the kid.

I just found her to be unnecessary. I've laid off Cage as of late because it would seem there's a reason she's there other than just a cringy, cliched love interest.

Now... Nikki and Maria from the original... yeah, I'll admit that I didn't like either one of them due to jealousy. That was different... RDA was my age at the time, and more my speed.

I agree about the sex appeal. That always annoys me. Sometimes it's necessary, but I feel that sometimes female characters are treated as though that's all they're good for. Cage can kick butt, so I can deal with her trying to act seductive so long as it's not too often.

She's too much of a damsel in distress, sometimes, though. I keep expecting for her to get kidnapped again, just so Mac and/or Jack can say, "AGAIN?!" laugh.gif

I don't really care about the way they introduced her. For some reason, I don't mind the method that they used. I'm pretty apathetic about who gets/stays on the team, as long as they don't actively annoy me. I'm not sure why.

Do they really expect us to believe Mac's father was in a concentration camp? Then he must've been at least 70 or 72 by the time this Mac was born. That's impossible. Going down on the picture, the man on it must be in his very early 20's. I mean that's at least how I understood. Or maybe, just maybe the number refers to the man who adopted Mac's father but then still he would've been way too old by the time Mac was born. My mind is going haywire, it could be anything. Maybe this is his greatgrandfather. Then it would be possible, but on the other hand... It sure caused a spark in my head last night because it simply wouldn't be possible but the man and the number could be a clue though.

Now on the episode itself, again a real nice episode and seemingly with some ingredients of Partners. I'm real glad The Ghost was in on it. Actually having not one but two bad guys on the loose and aiming for Mac is not a bad thing. Turning Mac's house in one big bomb is original and also the return of Charlie Robinson was nice. Actually I do believe he belongs more on the team then Bozer. He would be a great replacement. It was good to see Mac's and Jack's history deepened out. Interesting how most friendships start after a fight. Just like Magnum and TC.

Currently, I don't think much of Cage having any connection with The Ghost. That seems far fetched but I do want to believe The Ghost might be connected to Murdoc and Murdoc being connected to Cage. Then again, do they have to? However, last we saw Murdoc he seemed to be on a recruiting spree so why not have a couple of bad guys like The Ghost and whatever future bad guys may come that manages to get away team up with Murdoc form HIT and they fight it out in the last season. Phoenix vs. HIT. And for some reason Cage is some sort of problem for Murdoc that he needs to get rid off.

Maybe he's much cooler then the original. At least he doesn't act like he runs the show. Usually when they do you know they're going to die.

No, I actually liked her too. The first hints that she may not be who she says she is by Murdoc was nice, yet nobody knows that. They probably liked her after she got shot because they were hoping on no return probably. There's something really wrong and sometimes even a bit disturbing when it comes to opinions on social media.

You sure it's not that?

I'd probably regret it but what makes you say that? She got kidnapped once other times she kicked serious ass.

Mick Jagger and Richard Gere might disagree on that laugh.gif

But I don't think the writers wanted us to believe that this is Mac's father; just that he wanted Mac to have this file for whatever reason.

Roulette Wheel + Wire - captured

X-Ray + Penny - shot in the shoulder

Skull + Electromagnet - captured and nearly drowned

CD-Rom + Hoagie Foil - captured, though she got out by herself

Bullet + Pen - shot and written off the show

Compared to Riley, who was only in serious trouble in Magnifying Glass and Muscle Car + Paper Clips, Cage is a bit prone to needing to be rescued. I do like her when she kicks butt though, especially in Jet Engine + Pickup Truck

Kinda hard to believe an 84-year old would leave his twelve-year old son behind and still be on the run on the age of 96, don't you think. Unless he some sort of Bad Ass like Danny Trejo. laugh.gif
