My six and a half year old nephew is interested in watching some MacGyver - what would be some good intro episodes for him at that age? I think some would be a bit slow at his age, and I have to be somewhat careful with portrayals of foreigners (ie golden tirangle) because my sister is really pc, and the 80s were at times problematic in this area. I had to explain to her that the show didn't have typical 80s discrimination towards women for her to even agree to the show overall!

I'm talking myself out of it on this post lol, maybe he's a little young hmm.bmp

Never too young for MacGyver! That's the age he needs to be watching it so he grows up with a role model grounded in intelligence and decency. Two things badly lacking in today's world...

Maybe the Gauntlet? It depends somewhat on what he's interested in.. what kind of shows he likes, etc.

He's obsessed with super heroes and mario games - so pretty typical. I was thinking maybe Thief of Budapest (because of the kid and car chase) or Ghost Ship (because of bigfoot, although that one gets a little scary! lol). Or maybe one with Jack because those tend to be funny.

Thief of Budapest and To be a Man. I think both are kid friendly because they center around children. I also absolutely love the first season!

To Be A Man would be too slow and boring for a 6-year-old.

Thief of Budapest is probably a good one, or maybe Jack of Lies. Lots of fun action in that.

The Human Factor might be of interest for him too - out of control computer, the "darlek" guard-bots.

Maybe even the Pilot episode if you sell it right. wink.gif

All those people trapped underground and they have to send MacGyver in to save them because no-one else can do it.

hahah yeah I think Ghost Ship is too scary, but I already told him about it because the story is funny, lol. Human Factor is a good one!

I thought the Human Factor episode was creepy when I was a kid. But I was creeped out pretty easily and not allowed to watch TV that much, so not sure if I'm a good judge tongue.gif

I would think any episode that already has kids in it... like Eagles or maybe Rock the Cradle. Even The Madonna might be a good one for the holidays. I know some episodes like Widowmaker scared me out of my mind when I was 8. I had a thing about people falling off cliffs for a while growing up because of that episode. Season 2, for the most part, is pretty harmless.

I agree that Human Factor might be a good one, depending on his personality.

Good Knight MacGyver could be fun if he likes that sort of thing. lol I remember that being a big deal when it was released, but I was about 11 years by then. XD

I'm sure any Murdoc episode would be too much for him at that age (with the possible exception of Serenity) tongue.gif

At that age I watched Lesson In Evil. Didn't like it because he was wearing a tie and English sounded like gibberish to me at the time, now I consider it one of the best ever. Then again at that time I only had most of season 6 and half of season 7 at my disposal.

I think if there is one early episode that is fitting for kids, I'd go with Hellfire. No bad guys, no guns and lots of explosions.

Also Good Knight MacGyver is fun or maybe Legend of the Holy Rose, if he can sit still for 90 minutes, otherwise, I'd choose The Treasure of Manco.

Thief of Budapest? That was the first bad episode, you can't do that to him. tongue.gif If he likes chases go with Three For The Road. It's a nice and light episode and plenty of MacGyverisms.

Maybe On A Wing And A Prayer. It's the most adventureous episode of the fourth season and a great escape.

Harry's Will is also a nice and light one and shows a lesson in fair play.

Discrimination? The only stereotypical thing about this is that most women are damsels-in-distress. It's either that or they're evil.

A Lesson in Evil! That episode still creeps me out at 39! The Zito episodes almost edge horror for me, like TV versions of Saw or something unsure.gif

I agree about the show being progressive for the time - it was full of strong female characters good and bad, scientists, spies, etc.

Partners is one of my favorite episodes, and has quite a bit of humor - I was thinking it might be okay. Honestly I have no idea what he'll think - he's pretty set on starting with bigfoot ever since I mentioned it laugh.gif

The pilot or maybe Deathlock.

If doing the pilot I'd skip the opening gambit. It doesn't really serve any purpose and at that age, it's unlikely he's going to understand the story being told in it so better to jump straight into the main story.

Go for it. Start with Ghost Ship. Now you got me curious to how he would react to Bigfoot's howling or Mac exploring the ship.

I was born in 1982.

So, in 1988, when Mac was aired in France, I was 6.

One evening, as I wasn't able to sleep, I came to my father, and he was watching MacGyver. From that evening on, every time we could, we watched the show together...

I believe any kid can watch this show...
