With Mac's reluctance to continue on in the Phoenix Foundation, it is doubtful he'd send his 20 year old son to the DXS of all places knowing how dangerous it was. It is better suited that the story explains why Mac ended up there rather than him giving the consortium his blessing.

I don't have any specific names to suggest, but hopefully it'd be someone with a natural sense of humility similar to RDA.

Who said he has any say in "sending him"? He gets recruited. He's adult and makes his own choices. wink.gif

I must say I have a bit of a worry that the series will be focused on "secret agent" type stuff rather than the "MacGyver helps every day people scenarios we saw in the original show.

There might be an occasional episode where he goes about doing his own thing. But if hes going to be recruited into the DXS, the episodes will be more focused on espionage.

I actually prefer that seeing as I preferred the earlier seasons to the later ones.

But I suspect this will not be a grounded prequel we are all awaiting. If this is going to be a re-imagining, I doubt there will be much of a close link to the original show. Saying that, this can really go any direction.

Hartley is 38 years old.

There is no way he will play MacGyver. Otherwise it will just be a reboot.

I think they need an unknown to play the part.

I have faith honestly talking bout about the only non RDA Macgyver thing we have the pilot of young Macgyver. While the pilot did a lot of things wrong the casting of Jared Paladacki was definitely not one of them he was perfect.

I have to agree that Jared Padalecki was a good choice for Young MacGyver. He's got that same sincere compassion that RDA has. As does Markiplier.

People like them can never be replaced because of the mark they made on the world. Nor should they be. That is why a reboot is a good thing. Instead of the actor trying to act like RDA as MacGyver, it can be a good opportunity for that actor to make the role their own, and at the same time allowing their own compassion to shine through.

Because that was what MacGyver was all about... helping people and encouraging them to see their own potential.

Right? wink.gif

Still, Young MacGyver was never about the Angus MacGyver character. This will be the first time another actor has played RDA's role. Provided they choose the right star, i am certain you might enjoy it.

Schmendrick I have I have!!! biggrin.gif

But the truth is, reboots have been going on for ages.

People felt the same when they changed the James Bond character, Doctor Who and unfortunately it seems like it could happen with Indiana Jones too. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I think our lack of faith comes from how many times we have seen reboots fail & how much we feel the need to protect this license because it has always stayed untouched. And now that footsteps can be heard outside the closed down office, we are all worried what "the new owners are going to do with the place" so to say. laugh.gif

Also Indiana Jones, I'm prepared to accept but not if it's Chris Pratt. I also read that Spielberg and Lucas wanted to create the role anybody could play. Besides if they're in reboots why not bring back that television show. There are still plenty of unfilmed scripts on that one. Why not just continue?

I can't sign this. I loved RDA for Macgyver I honestly did and still do but the idea of a reboot in the vein of casino royals for Macgyver I can't pass that up.

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was actually cancelled very early on because it did not live up to the expectation of movie fans. Although despite cancellation, Lucasfilm STILL produced "TV Movies" to continue the story to a point where George Lucas was satisfied. So that is why so many scripts were never produced.

Despite wise cracking Pratt's personality, he does fit the profile of the character. He is no Harrison Ford (Obviously) But he might be Indiana Jones. In fact it was Spielberg who cast him in Jurassic World and it is Spielberg who said he will direct another Indy if they get Pratt for the role.

I have more faith in Spielberg than Lucas and if he is involved, I doubt we will be disappointed.

Also, Pratt's age is a healthy Pre-Raiders / Pre-Temple of Doom age so they could write a prequel. Maybe an adventure with his teacher, Abner Ravenwood. It could be quite good. Maybe the much loved and demanded Atlantis story? Hmmm?

What's very early on? I think it ran for four years. Between 1992 and 1996 I think. The reason I don't want Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones is because I was so unsatisfied with Jurassic World. It doesn't happen often, I can even like the worst reboot sometimes but Jurassic World was I think my first real disappointment in a movie. I'd prefer the Crystal Skull over Jurassic World anyday. I was so not impressed with Pratt let alone the whole movie. I think Pratt still has to proof himself to me but most of his work didn't say much to me.

I also have more faith in Spielberg than Lucas. I had seen his face on a scoring session of the Last Crusade and he didn't seem too happy with it while Spielberg was enjoying himself. I think Lucas is the serious one of the two. I heard he was acting up during the fourth Indy movie when Spielberg and Ford were satisfied with Frank Darabont's script but he wasn't. And Frank didn't take that lightly. I always figured he took out his frustation while making The Mist which was brought out a year earlier and was a pretty strong movie. Whatever Spielberg does is mostly very good. OK, Crystal Skull wasn't his best work but the movies he did afterwards; Tintin, Lincoln, War Horse were all very good and I can't wait for Bridge of Spies.

But perhaps you are right about Pratt being in the right age and I think it would do the movie good if it's set in the 30's again. There is still so much you can do with it. Make movies from the novels, make a movie of an unused script. Or indeed making a movie on The Fate of Atlantis would be interesting. I think that can indeed perhaps give it a much needed boost. There is also this actor called Anthony Ingruber. He's what you're looking for in a Harrison Ford look-a-like.

Check out this clip.

Just listen to the accent he puts on when he does Sean Connery and the way he speaks as Indy. But the real creepy part is when he smiles at 0:29 seconds. If I was a casting director and saw this as an audition, he's hired. He already got to play a younger version of the Harrison Ford character in the movie The Age of Adaline. Seriously, cast this guy as Indiana Jones in the next movie and you might have the trust of the fans and perhaps a new trilogy at hand. He's perhaps still a little young though. He's only 25 and this clip was made three years ago.

But perhaps a little more on topic again. Kiwitek, interesting choice. He also popped up in my mind a few times. He has the looks, the mullet and I think he likes hockey as well.

Anthony Ingruber is very impressive, I agree. He definitely has a Harrison Ford feel to him. Perhaps you should contact Hollywood and let them know before they shoot the upcoming Indy / Blade Runner / Han Solo spin off movies.

The show was cancelled in 1993 due to its huge budget and lack of audience. It continued from there till 1996 in the form of TV movies. Lucas is the one that got it wrong. In fact the original script for Last Crusade was about a haunted castle!!! It was Spielberg who convinced him to do the grail storyline. The Crystal Skull storyline was written before the X-Files. Had it come out back then, it would have had more of an effect but as you say, Lucas was never satisfied with any scripts. To this day, people MUCH prefer Darabont's version.

Spielberg is better suited to watch over Indy. Even Raiders' screenplay was written by Lawrence Kasdan. But this is all better discussed in another thread. So with that, Back on topic! biggrin.gif

Oh and yes. I LOVE Dennis Leary. He always plays the best villains. IMO. biggrin.gif (Thinking of the movie Judgment Night) biggrin.gif

I'm late on this topic, but I managed to get the entire series of Young Indiana Jones DVDs from an interlibrary loan earlier this year and loved them! I think I liked them better than the adult Indy...I loved how the series tied in with real world history. Part of it is that, if I had to pick a time in history to be alive, that would have been it, but it made history come alive for me and my boys. I know some of it was a stretch as far as accuracy went, but I enjoyed it just the same. In a lot of ways, the draw for that series is the same as the draw Mac has for me. It's seat of the pants action adventure.

And I can't find them anywhere. I'll give it a little more time and than I'll just ask it in the stores.

Indeed. Back on topic. Now that you mention it, Denizen, Denis Leary was indeed a great villain in Judgment Night and even in that movie he looked like MacGyver. It even comes to mind, RDA would played that role perfectly. It's the hairstyle, I tell ya. biggrin.gif

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.
Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you.
It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dennis Leary too, in fact I think "Rescue me" was brilliant. Is just that beyond the slight resemblance in looks I really don't see him as MacGyver. smile.gif

I could see Leary playing a new Murdoc. Not MacGyver.
