The first times I saw it I was confused too, but it's simple... It was Carla the whole time, Roxy is dead.

Um how come in that episode there's absolutely no mention of prosecuting Carla for pushing her manager to his death over the balcony? She goes to the hospital afterward and Mac like checks in on her and has the convo with the doctor but no mention of that she's now a murderer! It was her that pushed him right, or am I totally confused. It's a possibility...Or did no one care because he was a dirtbag? Hey everyone I hope I'm using this website properly and doing these postings properly...Due to an ultra-religious upbringing this is only the first month of my life using a computer...and I'm 27. It was only with extreme help that I was able to turn on this computer and do my homework (I just started college) and find this MacGyver site. I WAS able to watch some TV and MacG re-runs were the only bearable thing about my childhood. Now I have all the DVD's and even a DVD player- I'm becoming so high tech! My brother and I just wrote a MacGyver book that he is figuring out how to list on e-bay. So sorry if I do anything stupid or clueless on this site. Just yell at me! Right now I can't figure out how to make seperate paragraphs out of this paragraph. Oh well. Please bear with me. I just want to talk with other fans of the show I love so much. I never had a CLUE until about a month ago that there are actually other fans who like the show so much to talk about it! The internet really is cool. When my brother and I did our MacGyver stastistics book it was mainly to amuse orselves. OK this took me about 2 hours to type this.

she was psychologically unbalanced, and as such, unfit to stand trial.

I'm not sure if psychological problems also prevent you from being charged, but I would say if a person is that screwed up, then you could argue that she didn't have control of her mind, ergo, a coherent thought process and so, wasn't able to make rational decisions, including "right and wrong" choices.

Of coarse, she would have undergone a psychological analysis by police, but that doesn't make for very good TV, plus they where out of time, so just showed her at the hospital, implying that the police had assessed. her as unfit for trial

Yeah, thanks sorry I was in a hurry when I made this post. But what confused me the most is if Roxy died before or after Carla was in the hospital. I originally thought that she was in the mental hospital because of Roxy's death, but the doctor said Roxy was the best medicine for her. Because I assumed thats why she went insane. But if she went insane because of her sister's death... then how was Roxy able to be there for her. Essentialy my question is what happened first Roxy's death or Carla's hospital visit?

Carla's first hospital visit happened first. Apparently, she had a breakdown, was hospitalized, then stabilized (counseling and meds?) and was released. Sometime after that is when Roxy died. So when Mac is visiting her at the end of the eppy, it's her second visit.

It's easy! You see, Carla and Roxy when to school with Mac, and Mac went out on a few dates with Roxy. Carla became so jealous that she went insane....

Carla got a breakdown from the death of her sister. That's why Carla turned herself into Roxy. That's it. Carla = Roxy.

and yet in the episode they say that it was because her sister cut the rope to stop both of them falling while rock climbing.

Forgive my lame attempt at humour... cool.jpg I was only joking.

I'm sure that someone who had already had a mental breakdown would probably have another after her sister died trying to save her life. Who wouldn't feel responsible after that?

I guess I watch too much TV... I often can predict what the authors want to be a surprise.

So, I wasn't confused at all, I knew all the time that it only was one woman living two different lifes. I remembered the "Baywatch"-episode with exactly the same thing: twins, one died as a child and the other one felt responsible her whole life. So you thought it were two different women but in the end it turned out it was the same one the whole time.

I'm sure there must be other movies/series with this theme, are there?

Ok, it's in the DVD player. And....

Audrey Landers is an actress in a movie I like called a Chorus Line. She played a dancer. Check it out.

The Rock Against Drugs Video: I rate it ok, good message. The tank well it's just ok for me, but the audience gets the point.

What does everyone think about "Roxie" and Eve? Eve comes off as stressed out with the prima donna (in her eyes).

Mac's relationship with Roxie: the whole elevator scene just whoa: freaky.I like how she asks him if heights still get to him, and he nods and tells her they have to free climb. I hate heights too, so I get that fear, that vertigo. This is something that would keep me from ever rock-climbing. That's one of many things tat I like about Mac: generally he doesn't allow fear to keep him from trying new things and/or dangerous things.
He says to Roxie "You've been practicing." I like how Mac thought about that moment though when he's trying to figure out the mystery, and he remebers that Roxie never was a great climber "not like a cat", and Carla was. He thinks about the way that they climb, and he looks at the painting. He plays back every bit of conversation in his mind like a VCR and then takes fingerprints.
At the part where he is with Pete and compares the fingerprints, he realizes that Roxie and Carla are the same person. But he still has to figure out who killed the manager, and which twin it is. The climbing gives it away: Carla, and the painting does too. Mac figures out the Roxie died in a tragic accident while rock-climbing with Carla, that she was below Carla and having trouble, and pulling Carla with her. She cut herself loose to save her beloved twin. Carla's mind snapped and she took Roxie's life and personality in a subconcious attempt to keep her sister alive. This episode is really sad, thinking about what happened to Roxie, and Carla--their bond- and how fragile one's mental and psychological health can be. I like this episode and rated it good.

I think this is quite a good story actully. The double identity thing is a bit of a twist, which I'm pretty sure I didn't see coming the first time I watched it.

Yeah, I also remembered (after watching it and and typing the last post) that Carla had experienced a mental breakdown before the rock-climbing accident where Roxie was killed. Her fragile mental state was sent over the edge (no pun intended) when her sister died. Then she assumed Roxie's identity. I wondered how long she had to remain hospitalized at Pine Valley Hospital after Mac stopped her.

I really liked this episode ! But I do not understand why Carla was pretending that twins hated each other or at least Roxy hated Carla?? Her state of mind was not ok when she was doing this but would not be easier if she just lead two different lives? And by the way, if Roxy was a famous singer how was it possible to hide her death? Maybe I missed something smile.gif but it bothers me smile.gif

That has always bothered me, too. It seems like it would be nearly impossible to cover up her death. Still, I like the episode. It definitely shows the psychological trauma unique to twins when they lose their sibling--and the special bond that they share.

It's easier to cope with the death of someone if you convince yourself that you hated them. It was her coping mechanism. It also provided a cover story for why they where never seen together.

Because her twin sister turned up the next day pretending to be her; which was the whole point of the episode. She lived her sisters life so no-one would know she died and probably to keep her sister alive because she felt like she caused the death.

I guess we have to assume that the climbing accident happened in some remote mountain range somewhere, where the body wouldn't or couldn't be found.

when MacGyver and roxy are talking in front of her trailer after she pulls up in the porshe, even though this supposedly is taking place in Chicago you can tell this was shot at the BRIDGE studios in Vancover where Macgyvers sound stage work was done and whose exterior and parking lot doubled in several episodes for the Pheonix Foundation Western Division. The bright Orange gerters spanning the two buidlings is a dead giveaway. In Fact the trailers that are supposed to be Roxys star trailer and equipment trailer look pretty close to RDA and Dana Elcars trailers from an Entertainment tonight episode, so maybe they just used what they had on hand

The actress is easy on the eyes biggrin.gif

But the whole story is full of holes. How could Carla cover up what happened to roxy? Didn't the dr tell Mac that roxy visited Carla everyday at the asylum? So shed have to play some game there. Plus Carla would have to learn roxys's whole life and routine, not easy to do. Plus friends and family must have been asking about both of them. She pushed the manager, no mention of that in the end...

Poor writing. But I give it excellent cuz I think she's hot. happy_dance.gif

Identical twins are generally very close, so knowing the others routine might not be much of a stretch, but that would lead to the other problems you mentioned with family and friends. So on the face of it, a clever idea for a story, but once you start digging into it, yeah, not so smart really.

This episode had me confused from beginning to end. I spent the entire episode trying to figure out which one was the baddie, only to find out they were both the same person.

But something bothers me, something I don't get. When Mac is talking to Carla about the painting (before she dumps in the water - which was quite nice, by the way, when he dragged himself out) he says that they were climbing and that Roxie was in the lead. This means Roxie was at the top and Carla was at the bottom. The person at the bottom had the knife. If Roxie cut the line, she would have killed both herself and Carla.
Yet at the end we get the impression that Carla was in the lead and Roxie at the bottom because only the woman at the bottom had the knife.

Was this a mistake in the scripting or is there an explanation that isn't so confusing?
