Two women had been talking in line behind him at the supermarket.
They’d had no idea he was listening.
They’d prattled on about nothing until a book near the register caught their eyes.
A baby name book.
They’d thumbed through it, laughing at various names.
One jumped into MacGyver’s brain and burned itself into his cerebrum like molten lava.
Its meaning made him laugh at the world’s sense of irony.
Deborah.
It meant ‘bee’.
Bee.
How perfect.
Mac had only known two women named Deborah in his life.
And both of them sure did sting.
