The plane used semi-regularly in season 3 of the cult 80-90's action-adventure series MacGyver was reportedly destroyed in a tragic air crash while on a South American mission worthy of a MacGyver episode itself.

According to the Aviation Safety Network the Douglas C-47A-90-DL plane, known by fans of the show as Jack Dalton's plane throughout the 3rd season, crashed into a mountain while on a flight to return Christian Agua Viva missionary group doctors back home from their relief work in Playa Grande on Nov 1, 1998.

The crash report states that the plane was flying through thick fog and rain, generated by tropical depression Mitch and was relying on instruments only when it crashed into the mountain killing 11 of it's 18 occupants. The plane was damaged beyond repair and subsequently written off.

There was apparently no flight plan filed.

yeah not a nice end to the plane. Although it does seem a very MacGyverish, or maybe more Jack Dalton-ish end doesn't it.

Interestingly if you type in the planes tail number N3FY into google, you can see some nice photos of it, and it looks like they didn't alter it at all for the show, other than the Dalton Air sign on the side.

Sad, but yes, definitely a Jack Dalton-ish end to the plane.

It's ironic that the plane was used for a MacGyverish purpose and ended in a Jack Dalton-ish way.

Shouldn't there always be a flight plan filed? It sounds pretty odd that it wasn't.

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.

It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
