I recently had a visitor to LOLMac, with a blog devoted mostly to knitting with bits of MacGyverism thrown in: http://iamthereforeiknit.blogspot.com/ Open the page, and look down the right-hand side of the page. She has some very funny "merit badges", including the following: MacGyver Level I Knitting Scouts Badge: This badge certifies that I have "demonstrated clever use of a non-knitting tool in a knitting-related scenario" -- specifically, drinking-straw stitch markers, and using a cuticle-cleaning stick, an untwisted paper-clip, and the toothpick from my Swiss Army knife for cable needles. MacGyver Level II Knitting Scouts Badge: This badge certifies that I have "demonstrated clever use of a knitting tool in a non-knitting-related scenario." Specifically, opening a container of caulk with a US 2 knitting needle. Several times. Apparently the idea came from http://www.cast-on.com/?page_id=123, where they also have a Level III MacGyver Knitting Scouts Badge! It's not easy to earn: "The recipient must demonstrate clever use of a knitting tool in a non-knitting-related scenario working towards the Greater Good. For instance, recipient might use a Clover yarn cutter, a 30" Addi Turbo circular needle, and a copy of Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Without Tears to foster world peace." |

There should be a special Knitting Scout Badge for crochet hooks, too! |

Makes me wonder what other MacGyverism merit badges there ought to be -- there really should be some for computers, you know. |
