Mac and Desi spent way too much time not believing each other and trying to one-up each other.
Mac actually paused a fight between 2 baddies with a Pixar-style Relationship Talk?
MacRiley felt like it had some hints, and when Mac started saying he wasn't sure about his relationship with Desi, I thought "woah", but then he said " But maybe that's just how we work!" I actualy hung my head and said "Stop giving me false hope like that" to my tv screen.
Russ was entertaining, though, with spending time with Sparky and with salivating over the food Eesitexted him about

I'm team MacRiley since the beginning so i was totally prepared for an episode that would break my heart. But it was actually entertaining. It was a good episode. Fun and action packed. I wished we had more Russ, Bozer and Matty scenes tho. The last scene with Mac and Riley was really heart warming.
For me the episode showed us why MacDesi don’t work. Them being attracted to each other during life/death situations doesnt mean they're meant to be. They’re not compatible. Like Mac said, They are only really good when things are really bad. I think they will try to make it work for a few more episodes and then break up for good.
Btw this episode also proved me that Riley can’t be happy with a ‘normal’ guy. She can enjoy normal life activities (like Mac enjoys his animations or museum visits) but she also loves her adrenaline driven job.
Mac and Riley are the definition of compatible to me. I dont think they'll become a couple this season but the show is heading that direction.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not a fan of the dating story line. I do like that you can see that Riley has feelings for Mac, but I just think Mac dating someone is a story line that really isn't needed.
Anyone have any ideas on who "she" is? Maybe Thornton?

This episode was ruined by the stupid dating drama nonsense.
I'm really over this whole MacDesi drama thing. It's just annoying now.
If I want drama I'll watch Days Of Our Lives. I watch MacGyver for fun adventure.
Yeah, it all feels like it's setting up for something. The problem is no one has any clue as to what and how long this will go on for, and it's starting to wear thin.
That said, it'd made for decent comedy in this episode. In a bottle, it works. I just wish it'd be kept there.
Loved Devon Sawa's character. I don't think I've laughed harder than when he said he didn't wanna hear anymore relationship stuff otherwise he'd shoot everyone in this room...including himself. As we'd later find out, he was having his own relationship issues.
Riley's extra little squeeze on the hug....awww.
Now can we get back to Mac (and team) saving the world?

On occasion, I do kinda like bits of romance drama solely so that I can feel so much smarter than the characters on the screen. The romance drama in MacGyver doesn't even work for me in that sense

Could have done with less love drama, but I liked the episode overall.
Just not all on board with the way they've been portraying Desi this season. Liked that we finally got at least a flashback to the scene that we've got BtS photos from in what feels a lifetime ago. But I felt sort of "offended" by Desi yawning through Mac's nerding. They've worked for about half a year together before they started dating; she knew what she got into and that he likes "waffling on" about nerdy stuff. Her continued disinterest in him just makes her look bad. Not sure why they want to paint her in such a bad light of being "bitchy" and complicated and complaining all the time about his hobbies and likes after making her a regular. I think both Desi and Levy deserve more than that. Give that woman an interesting backstory at least or a flashback episode soon.
I love the drink switch and that Mac and Riley have the same drink on the table. There's a lot of subtle hints those two are more compatible, but I'm curious if they'll actually go through with it or not. So far, I have no indication by BtS photos if they'll end up together or not. I guess that's a good thing so we can keep speculating about storylines.
Poor Riley. I wonder if Aubrey wanted to propose that night? It looked that way to me. Though I was surprised that she gave up her apartement that easily and had moved in with him. Maybe she felt responsible for Billy cheating on her (by refusing to move together and work together), so she felt she had to go "all in" with Aubrey.

I loved this episode. I thought it had so many great lines and Mac's facial expressions throughout: priceless. (his reactions to the 'delicacies' I can relate ) I loved the switching of the drinks and Mac's taste in music. The music throughout was great but then I do like the 80s The cultural references were great, too: Dr. Phil, the Illuminati, Rick and Morty. I love character, and I enjoy these times of character development, that these characters are more than just 'saving the world' types.
I felt there was plenty of action, too. Loved Devon Sawa in this role. His wife was good, too. Also, while I understand the Mac/Riley shippers, I have no problem with Desi. Her 'everything face" too funny.
My take is that, much like a Shakespearean drama, this is the comic relief interlude, before the darkness comes, I have rewatched the episode and find it just as enjoyable.

Spot-on. I'm pretty sure the last scene set that up. I know it's been mentioned that this season is going to get pretty dark.
I did enjoy finding out that MacGyver was a Rick & Morty fan...certainly makes him relatable to the modern 20-30-something American male. And it certainly fits this Mac more than say going home and watching Westerns.

Having read the "spoilers" that are out there, unfortunately it won't be.
That said, it would be nice to have a Season 1 callback and maybe some true finality to that thread.

On Desi yawning: i think it was meant to be funny but i agree with you, it's a little rude to show such disinterest to something that excites Mac. But, i guess those little moments are intentionally put there to show how incompatible these 2 are.
On Riley&Aubrey: Yeah i guess he was gonna propose to her... And i guess you are right about Riley moving in with Aubrey bcoz she didn't want things to end up like it ended with Billy. Poor thing.
I still don't think it's a good idea for Mac & Riley to be dating. I know CBS knows how to do it, the thing I liked about Elementary was that ir reflects real life in the sense that most cases of the opposite sexes working with each other everybody isn't tripping and falling into bed with each other.
I don't think Desi is rude, I think when a lot of women are comfortable around their men it's cool for them to start throwing light shade lol.
I did think it's purposeful Riley wanted to move in with Mac, and not a hotel or getting another place, nothing about her says broke. 2 people with subliminal feelings for each other, living under the same roof...
I agree with Dashboard, Desi could use an appropriate angle or a better backstory as a regular on the cast now.
Also I feel like this was a lost opportunity to have Jeep (or another car manufacturer) sponsor the show by giving Mac another "Mac truck" (see what i did there?). Didn't the OG's Jeep did wonders for the brand all those years ago in sales?

Mac had a Jeep in 2x23 and Lucas even drives a Jeep in real life. Not sure why they traded this in for a "Soccer Mom Car" in season 4. Thought it already weird in Episode 4x01. Guess they take what is being sponsored for them.

Before I even start on all the relationship drama... That was Devon Sawa??? The kid from Final Destination???
This is like the second time I couldn't place an actor but the worse part is, I totally did not recognise him. I knew I knew Xander Berkeley but it didn't dawn to me but this time I was completely blanked out. I was tired though but maybe I am too tired when I watch this. Usually I watch when it's around or past eleven. Then again during the opening credits in the first scene whenever there is dialogue there is always this grey yet transparant cover for the subtitles. I'm always trying to look at the names but during dialogue it's quite hard to see because of the grey cover. So it was Devon Sawa from Final Destination.
Now the relationship drama.
For starters this was again a good episode but not a stand out. The idea of setting the episode in a restaurant is a great touch. Maybe the entire episode should've been set in the restaurant and that all customers would've been held hostaged. Yet the way it went was alright.
The relationship drama between Mac and Desi is getting a little old by now, not to mention stereotypical or at least that's what they try or want it to be (and they're not doing a very good job either) and they really want to milk it out for no matter what reason. The banter feels a little forced as if it's against their real life chemistry. Mac and Desi could've been a thing but the momentum is gone by now and he actually belongs with Riley. Also Riley's relationships doesn't work out, because she don't belong with him. Honestly if I would be dating someone like Riley, I would ask her to recruit me and not dump her like that. The girl has feelings too, you know.
The fact that the main villain was having relationship issues of his own was funny but it also diffused the situation. A serious situation suddenly becomes comedic and took away the suspense.
The ending was a great one. I'm always in for suspenseful endings.

It's not offending but just stereotypical... oh but wait that usually IS offending. I wouldn't call her bitchy but it's like the typical relationship: whenever the man is enthusiastic about something, the woman is usually not interested or in a bad mood because he likes something she doesn't and that's what freaks me out about relationships. That's like staying together because you don't want to be alone but you don't real love each other nor you can support one another.

It's honestly the best idea so far.
