huh.gif There's nothing in here.

I watched this again last night.

Where to begin? unsure.gif

I like this episode despite all the things that annoy me about it. dry.gif Okay there's only three things. Maria, Kate and Jenny. laugh.gif At the beginning anyway. Them going on in endless male bashing chatter. With Mac sitting right there! AUGH. Seems to me there would have been a certain amount of inebriation to chatter on like that or expect Mac to take it. mad.gif Grrr.

The dream sequence I loved. Mac is like a cross between Dexter and Nicodemus Legend. A geeky cowboy! laugh.gif

Can't help but thing this is when Rick decided he wanted to do Legend. And it was funny not only hearing similar music from Legend but the exact same sequence at one point. biggrin.gif

A poor continuation of Serenity. I really didn't like this one... the "Women" really annoyed me (well I supose... it is titled MacGyver's WOMEN). No wonder Mac retreats to the loft (aka: bedroom) to escape them. They seem to be plotting their future with him - a scary thought!

Also I wish they would have gone back to the ranch in Calgary where Serenity was filmed (I loved the snow)... probably not in the budget, but using the Burnaby Village Museum was a kinda cheap shot - it's too modern looking and doesn't look at all like Serenity.

Just my $.02... dry.gif jeep.gif

I can't tell you anything about what happens after the cameras go off, mostly because I'm usually unconscious by then.

I didn't like this episode at all. Serenity beat it by a longshot. Jenny wasn't Jenny at all which made me mad! The original one was so much better! This episode just bugs me for some reason. dry.gif

yeah, I would say not.

Taking a film crew half way across the country to film one episode, seems kinda expensive.

There's just something about this episode that irks me sooooo much. Maybe the way Maria mentions in the beginning that she and Mac are lovers? Maybe the way that she chides him about commitment, yet she's the one who leaves in the end?
Maybe the male bashing. Maybe all of the above.
I don't know. I know that Mac is no saint. He has many many many girlfriends and lovers, and only a handful of those that he truly and deeply loves. Kate Malloy was one from his college days and maybe the great love of his life up until the end of the show (then fanfic takes over). Lisa Kohler, Debra Easton, Deborah, maybe Mike Forrester deep down (although I like to think that they never slept together just because that would have further compounded Mac's guilt and pain when she died. Maria never seemed right.
Furthermore, while I believe that marriage is a sacred covanent between a man, a woman and God, and that sex was created for marriage, I felt better about Mac's relationship to Kate Malloy and Sam their son than I do about Maria. Kate left Mac. Mac mentions to Lulu in the Lost Amadeus that he was once really in love. I think that someone was Kate.
MacGyver's Women is a crazy title because it's Kate the cop/his friend, Jenny the runaway/reformed now ex-hooker played by a porn star in this episode. instead of the much more believeable actress from Runners, and Maria.
The male bashing scene toward the beginning just rubs me the wrong way. And I am a married woman. I have been married nearly 10 years. I get together with girlfirends and talk about lots of things, including how our husbands drive us crazy. (kids too) But, Maria has only known Mac for like a month, a few weeks, she pushes him for a commitment and then bashes him with other women.
I would have preferred Nikki and Penny discussing Mac, and then Maria who wants this commitment, leaves Mac the next morning for Rio de Janero, I think, leaving him more confused. If she wanted a commitment, then she should have chosen Mac and proved herself. I blame the writer's and the female viewers who demanded that Mac be alone. I am not againist the thought of Mac dating someone steady, or getting married, actually I would have preferred it, as opposed to having him go from woman to woman to woman, and with female agents or killers. Kate Malloy and Debra Easton were the best of the two.
Ok, I am done, for now.

Forgive me in saying that but I think this is one of the few episodes that I want to quit halfway through! Quite confused as I watched: this posted as a continuation of Serenity but couldn't find any connection with the previous one except for the name of the town. I also wondered about whether this Jenny is the same as Jennifier in The Runner because the actor was different. I prefer the old Jenny, too!

I found it quite uncomprehensable that Mac fell in love with Maria after seeing her 'acting' in The Wall. He ought to be more careful with her!

Yeah you would think so--after Deborah and Lisa and.....all the other fiascos----maybe Mac is a glutton for punishment---how else do you explain Maria---is he that desperate for physical intimacy?

I could well understand that .... he was 39 afterall ..... Remember he wanted to quit the job and go get married years ago (Friends)?

I finally watched this last night. Good lord... what a lousy episode.

First-- I don't like Maria at all. Her voice is annoying, and her personality just grates my nerves.

Second-- WHY, if they wanted to have a show about the women in Mac's life, did they choose Kate and Jenny? We've only seen Jenny once before, so she's hardly a predominant figure in his life, and we've seen Mac work with Kate a couple of times, but I never really got the impression they were good friends (which raises another point-- why did Kate break into Mac's house? Or does Mac not lock his doors even when he's not home?) It would have been much better to have Nikki and Penny.

Third-- Why does RDA constantly squint and wrinkle his nose when he's dressed up as a cowboy? It got annoying.

I actually stopped watching halfway through, and only went back to it later because it was kind of like watching a carwreck.

The one vaguely good thing about the episode-- it was kind of fun to hear the "western" renditions of the classic Mac music throughout the episode. That's it.

The male-bashing at the beginning is clearly supposed to be irritating, and neither Kate nor Jennifer was the most sympathetic of characters in the first place. (Jennifer obviously had had a rough life, but still - Mac helped her out of a jam and she "thanked" him by stealing his wallet!) The same goes for Kate inviting herself to borrow Mac's house - we're obviously not supposed to sympathize with her or appreciate her behavior in any way.

Here's the catch: it's all fairly believable. MacGyver always seemed to open his home to his friends (there must be dozens of episodes where Pete just shows up without even knocking), and he does have a lot of friends who annoy the heck out of him, yet he's always there for them (Penny and Jack both come immediately to mind). And an awful lot of people are prone to negative generalizations about the opposite sex. In my experience, that's usually a sign that the person has poor taste in the gender in question. So that scene doesn't really bug me, except inasmuch as I wonder why Mac is so tolerant of his friends when they act like that. But there are many, many other examples of that throughout the series.

One thing that does rub me the wrong way is that the dream sequence contains several references to Mac not carrying a gun as if that were absolutely unheard of. That everyone carried a gun in the Old West is a historical myth, and I really don't like seeing those repeated. I didn't care for Billy the Kid's cameo either, simply because inserting real-life characters in historical fiction almost never works in my view. And, as others have said, the tale itself pales in comparison to Serenity.

Still, I don't dislike it as much as some of you do. Not among my favorites either, though.

They've got guns. All I have is orange juice and a rope...

I don't like Maria! First time I have seen her and her voice is grating and sounds fake. Glad she disappeared and left Mac, I couldn't stand the thought of them together!
Another terrible episode. I did like RDA's acting in this one though although he looks kinda stupid in a cowboy hat and a mustache.

Didn't like this Episode one bit haveing Kate break into Mac's house was something

I would of got really sick of, I know his friends can some over anytime they want

but breaking in would of made me mad.

Instead of Kate and Jennifer I would of liked toi see Nikki or Penny in the mix they

have been friends longer then the other two have.

Instead of haveing a wild west Episode I would of liked the writers of the show to

come up with something else. They did a wild west Episode once before and I liked

it but this one just sucked big time.

I didn't like Maria at all I think the two of them dateing was just to give someone

for Mac to love or try to love, but as the fans voted she was gone from Mac's life.

I think the wild west idea was RDA's request. In one of the interviews we have in the media center he talks about how he loves doing the wild west stuff and wanted to do it.

Did anyone notice that when Mac was standing on that post after he'd been 'hanged' the sign that pointed left said 'Serenity'? The name of the previous wild west episode?

At least, I am positive that's what it said...

I think this episode is suppose to take place in Serenity. They filmed it in a different location though so it doesn't look the same.

Oh okay, seems a bit weird that Mac would dream about basically the same place, same time.

Men hate it when women use dirty words like love? Is love considered a dirty word? As I recall if men use and I do mean dirty words women are usually the ones who are disgusted.

Cowboys aren't faithful to women but are faithful to their horse? What? This has got to be the worst episode of season six.

Too bad that this was Stephen Kandel's last episode. Serenity was definitely the better of the two western episodes. They should've left it with Serenity or written a better script for this one.

I guess it's lost in translation but the faithful to their horse and dirty words like love comments are jokes, quite old ones too.

Dirty words are words you don't or shouldn't say or talk about right? Also many are 4 lettered.

Love is a 4 lettered word than men don't like to use - especially in public... ergo it's a dirty word in the "Mans Dictionary".

Serenity was definitely the better of the two western episodes. They should've left it with Serenity or written a better script for this one.

I strongly agree.

Dirty words are words you don't or shouldn't say or talk about right? Also many are 4 lettered.

Love is a 4 lettered word than men don't like to use - especially in public... ergo it's a dirty word in the "Mans Dictionary".

Oohhhhh! Lol, thanks for the explanation.

I guess it's lost in translation but the faithful to their horse and dirty words like love comments are jokes, quite old ones too.

I think Maria meant that cowboys spend more time with their horse than with their wives.

Really??

Has no-one ever heard that joke before??

Maybe I should watch some old westerns to understand. doh.gif

Wha...? Who wrote that script? It IS usually the other way around...and who considers "love" to be a dirty word???

Stephen Kandel and Lincoln Kibbee. They delivered episodes like Serenity and Humanity. Can't believe they wrote this junk.

Now you mention it, the whole list is coming through in my head and they're all four lettered. biggrin.gif

Believe me, I've watched all the westerns I can get my hands on from Tom Mix, to Rex Allen, Roy Rogers, John Wayne, to Clint Eastwood, even and various series. I've never heard that before.

Close.

Man, I thought this stuff was universal.

She meant that to a cowboy a women is just a bit of fun he picks up for the night at a town he stops in, but his horse is constant companion, his best friend, his work partner. After all without a horse a cowboy has no means of transport and can't do his job. AND most importantly of all - he uses his horse to get away from the women! laugh.gif

I think many cowboys were loners though, traveling from town to town looking for work or spending days or weeks at a time on cattle drives, so they didn't have wives or girlfriends.
