Hey, just read on TVline that MacGyver will return on Feb 7 and it will be an hour before Hawaii 5-0 and according to the article Magnum P.I will be benched until MacGyver's full season until ends. I think this could be MacGyver's last season.
It could, yes. But at the moment, it's probably more worrysome that they're benching Magnum for about 5 months in the middle of the season, despite filming a crossover with H50 right now...
Didn't they give Mac the run treadmill to save Magnum? Why are they shelving it now lol.....

It's possible that the back-order of episodes was solely to get to MacGyver to the requisite number for syndication so they could move on, but the telling thing for me here is the fact that it's being slotted back into the exact spot it vacated. They could have buried it anywhere.
Obviously, ratings and such will be key, but bumping Magnum to a mid-to-late summer run to conclude the season almost seems like a death sentence for that show...no?
Also correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't CBS have far more "control" over MacGyver than it does Magnum, which I believe is co-produced with NBCUniversal?

Possible, yes. But why would they give them back the Friday slot? If they were sure it would be cancelled/syndicated anyway, they could have put it on the more difficult slots that had to be filled (e.g. Thursday 10pm, Sunday 10pm). Why not air it in Spring instead? There was no need to bench Magnum to air MacGyver.

I don't know what's safer for shows. It is interesting though that both SEAL Team (owned) and Magnum (not owned) are benched for seveal months while SWAT (not owned) isn't, despite having worse ratings - especially now that Magnum and H50 are filming the crossover episode right now.
