Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I couldn't find it being discussed elsewhere and i can't post to news. I came across an interesting new release on facebook. Apparently a compilation of fan chosen favorites is being released on the 6th. Doesn't look like it has any real new content though. What do you think? Worth the purchase? Link to Amazon below.

Well, those episodes are good but not for a best of I think. Or Fan Favorites. I think in a best of must at least be an episode involving a recurring character and important episodes. To me, it should be this:
Pilot (For starters) Nightmares (Mac and Pete together for the first time) Family Matter (Sometimes you do it for no reason) Partners (How Mac, Pete, Jack and Murdoc got together in the first place) Friends (Why Mac does the things he does and for whom) Jack In The Box (Same as above) The Widowmaker (In circumstances you'd be surprised on who can help you out, if you let it) Kill Zone (On how dangerous science can be) Early Retirement (When things don't turn out the way it should) The Negotiator (Another good example on how tight their relations were) Blood Brothers (Don't touch things you're not supposed to) On a wing and a Prayer (Why Mac saves his friend with the help of a friend) Cease Fire (Actually for the same reason as The Widowmaker) Halloween Knights (Even good and bad needs each other) Serenity (Why everybody needs Mac) Passages (Some Mac history) Humanity (Discover it yourself) The Wall (Same reason as with Friends) Lesson in Evil (We all have our deals with good and evil) Harry's Will (The lessons you'll learn in life on fair play) Bitter Harvest (Just as with Friends) High Control (Everybody deserves a second chance) The Stringer (You never know who you might meet)
There you go. 23 episodes. Good enough to make a worthy season box. If you want a best of that pretty much sums it up. I agree on two of those five they wanted on that best of but not with the rest. The episodes I listed involves lessons MacGyver learned during his (younger) life, where he came from, who his friends are even if you don't expect it. But above all why Mac does things he does and for whom.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Hmm, good list as a starting point -- I like most of your choices, MGod, but I would personally avoid Harry's Will or High Control, which I thought were dreadfully lame episodes; and I wouldn't include Lesson in Evil without Deadly Dreams, if I included it at all. I'd also skip Friends, which is a clip show, in favour of something with more meat to it.
And I'd want more of a balance amongst the seasons . . . let's see.
Here's my 23-episode list:
Pilot Nightmares Countdown (Mac backstory, a good first-season episode)
Family Matter Partners Twice Stung or DOA: MacGyver (either one)
Jack in the Box The Widowmaker Early Retirement The Negotiator
Blood Brothers On a Wing and a Prayer Deadly Dreams (a much better episode than Lesson in Evil) The Challenge (must have the Challengers Club! And it’s a terrific episode)
Halloween Knights The Treasure of Manco (the best of the Indiana Jones episodes) Jenny's Chance (the best of Dexter) Passages
Humanity Bitter Harvest Blind Faith (Pete’s glaucoma is introduced)
The Hood or Off the Wall (either one) The Stringer
Who's got another set of choices?

Well guess I still missed some like indeed The Challenge and Blind Faith. And in your doubts I'd go for D.O.A. MacGyver and The Hood, but that's because they're personal favorites. I can live with Jenny's Chance though however my favorite would be Squeeze Play than, but I understand Jenny's Chance has a more comic outlet. RDA should've done some comedies.
Deadly Dreams and Lesson in Evil indeed belong more together and more importantly the recurring characters were played by the same actors.

I personally prefer DOA MacGyver to Twice Stung also; for a Best-Of collection, I might go with the latter, because it was the first time they used the term 'MacGyverism'. On the other hand, DOA MacGyver really hits how much Mac's resistance to guns was a core value.
Speaking of which, The Gun would also be a strong contender for inclusion.
I think (personal opinion) Jenny's Chance was a stronger story than Squeeze Play; not for the comic element, more for the overall plot. (Deep Cover would also be an option.) I particularly like Jenny's Chance for Pete's turn as a mob boss, and the wonderful on-screen appearance of 'Steve' as Dexter's double.

Well this is a collection of episodes as voted by people on the CBS Paramount facebook page.
Considering that I saw no promotion of this poll at all, and I go out of my way to find MacGyver related stuff each day I would say that once again CBS Paramount have given this the same amount of effort they put into the DVD sets.... i.e. Lets milk some more money out of this as easily and cheaply as we can.

Well there ain't nothing wrong with making a buck but where's the respect? Instead of asking peoples opinion or someone who wants to do it decently.

It does seem like a rather outrageous price for four episodes. Do you think the high selling price could possibly contribute to making it a highly sought after collectors item in the future though?

You know actually there is also a dvd out with The Best of Magnum PI. Those were like five or six episodes out of various seasons. I think that one was released before the dvd boxes though. Than again, the question is were those fan favorites or randomly picked just to make a quick buck?

Okay Beth, here is my set of choices. Man, this was tough! I had no idea I had so many favorites. By the way, MacGod, I liked the motivation you add to your selection. That's a nice way of looking at it.
I tried to select three per season, but smuggled some more in. Re season 6: I could have chosen nearly every episode, it's my fav season.
As for the final season: I have become quite fond of 'Mountain of Youth'. I just don't seem to get enough of RDA's acting in this one. And for all you Penny Parker haters, I have said it before and say it again: I like her, a lot. I love the way she brings out the big brother in MacGyver, and I think Teri Hatcher does a wonderful acting job. The way she starts off in 'Every time she smiles' makes me grin every time, and with the exception of Soft Touch, I like Penny in every episode she is in. In fact, I like her a lot more than Nicky.
Finally: I would never buy the so called fan selection dvd, and I am glad I don't need to, as I have the complete series on DVD.
My choice:
The Gauntlet Last Stand The Escape
The Eraser DOA MacGyver For Love or Money (I like Diana very much) Three for the Road
Fire and Ice The Widowmaker Thin Ice (also because of Clu Culager!)
On a Wing and a Prayer The secret of Parker House The Battle of Tommy Giordano The Challenge
Cease Fire Jenny's Chance & Deep Cover (because of Dexter, obviously. And I really can't choose between the two.) Rush to Judgement Passages
Humanity Bitter Harvest Jerico Games Trail of Tears

It's funny, most, if not all, episodes are important in some way to a side of MacGyver so I don't think I can narrow them down that much. I will say there are a couple I wouldn't add just for the sheer fact that it felt like it was a group dynamic episode and not as much MacGyver such as Twice Stung. The Coltons(obvious) and Jenny's Chance.

Just for fun I tried to pick 5 eps for each season that I would put on a Best of. Not as even my favs (love them all for various reasons) but eps that would Wow a new viewer and give a good sense of what MacGyvers about. I couldn't do it. Top 10 maybe:)

Okay, I’ll play… I’m going to pick one from each season, so it will be a 7 episode collection.
1. A Prisoner Of Conscience: Mainly I’m picking this because it’s a good introduction of the Mac & Pete relationship. Besides that, it has some good action.
2. Jack Of Lies: Overall, this is a really fun episode, and a great introduction to Jack Dalton.
3. Lost Love: Yes, I’m kind of cheating here since it’s a two parter, but it’s easily among my favorite episodes of the series, so I have to include it.
4. Deadly Dreams OR The Invisible Killer: I can’t decide between these two. Both are good episodes. Deadly Dreams gives us Dr. Zito, a great character. "Invisible Killer” gives us Mac in the wilderness, which is always a good thing.
5. Passages: I used to love this one as a kid, and I still think parts of it are really well done.
6. Strictly Business: I needed a Murdoc episode somewhere in this collection!
7. The Stringer: Seems like an appropriate way to end the collection.
