I examined SAKs on DVDs with a magnifying function, but there may be some mistakes. These are my opinions.
So I want someone to correct if there are mistakes. laugh.gif

I am also interested in swiss army style knife used in "The Stringer". sak.gif

According to our list of knives used in the episodes, that would be the Ranger model.

Yes. But I once insisted that in SAK's used in each episode.

And MacDriver agreed with it.

To be honest, I wanted MacGyver to use a Ranger model in final episode. MacG.gif

Oh yeah Makoto, that piece of detective work you did was spectacular! I will vouch that he did in fact uncover irrefutable evidence that it was a non-Swiss knife used in the final episode. It was a promotional model that had been made way back years before to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the show, dozens or more were made and distributed to the staff. Despite being given 144 knives every season by Victorinox, they still apparently decided to go with having a bunch of chinese made models printed on. Which by the way, was very ironic given that episode's theme.
Anyway, we need to update that list to say something like "5 layer chinese swiss-style knife" or something similar that is not such a mouth full tongue.gif If only we could ever find out why the final episode ended on such a sour Swiss note dry.gif Either they did it to see if anyone would notice, one of the cast asked that their previously-obtained knife be used in actual filming for bragging rights, or Anderson himself received one along with everyone else and for some reason pocketed it despite the fact that it was not real. Even worse, he claims the one "MacGyverish item" he retains after MacGyver is the knife- Yikes! I hope he doesn't keep that thing in his pocket or glove box! There's simply no way tongue.gif

was it an actual 100th episode knife?

oh and here's salt in the wound...

It seems that they did actually make a real SAK with MacGyver printed on as well as the cheap ones.

I don't know whether it is an actual 100th episode knife or not.
According to the description of ebay auction;MacGyver 100th Episode Swiss Army Knife
"This is a unique piece of memoribilia, given to cast and crew on the TV show "MacGyver." It's a red swiss army style knife with lots of useful features, that says "MacGyver 100TH EPISODE" comes with box that says "BARLOW" on it."

But MacGyver 100th Episode Swiss Army Knife does not have toothpick and tweezers. I can only say that an early Chinese knockoff is very similar to the knife used in the Stringer. Brand is not clear. sad.gif

Hmmm, too bad we don't have the original link. If I hadn't just stayed up all night cramming for an exam I probably just blew, I'd have the energy to search for it. But that would be a perfect match for the 100th Episode, Mc used the Climber with the reverse logo on it (only used on promotional knives- wink wink). He used the scissors to cut wire in the cave after he did that shotgun shell lead welding job. Hopefully none of the recipients got the idea that they were made for cutting wire. Even back then models with the pliers/wirecutters were offered, Deluxe Tinker, Swiss Champ, Mechanic, etc. They had boses and boxes of free swiss knives, and no one who knew anything about them dry.gif

Okay, and turns out it wasn't that much work to find the thread. Unfortunately the link we had was to a ebay listing that is long expired now, but Rocky was awesome enough to get a screen shot it looks like, so here's the thread:

http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index...708&hl=stringer

And here's more photos of the knife

Seriously, this will bug me til I die if I never find out what possessed them to use a junk knife to replace one of the show's icons for the finale. doh.gif

There's another picture in the media center too.

If you look closely at the knife used in the Stringer you can see the tooth pick and hole where tweezers go.

I've just been going these lists looking to see what needs updating on the page, and there seems to be a fair bit on contradiction between which knives where used.

It is very difficult to find out what knives MacGyver used in each episode completely, because there are some similar knives and retired models.
We must think about the setting of the times. headbutt.gif
That may be only a guess. hmm.bmp

Thats a genuine Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. It's not the same as the one in the episode, which was a fake.

Thanks a lot. laugh.gif
In Lost Treasure of Atlantis, MacGyver used a 3 layer knife with Phillips Head Screwdriver.
I don't have a DVD of 2 movies, so I can't identify whether it is Victorinox Hiker Knife or Victorinox Super Tinker Knife. sad.gif

kewl.

That pretty much confirms the 100th episode knife is a Barlow, as well as the Stringer episode using the same kind of knife.

Nice work smile.gif

Hey everybody, I'm new here! And first of all, i want to apology my crappy English... I'm from Finland...

So... I've always wondered what SAK MacGyver used in each episode. Usually you can't get good look at them, beacuse Mac's hand is on the way. This list have helped me alot! Thanks to all for putting the list up. happy.gif If I looked correctly, MacGyver used Standard or Tinker the most and alot other models too.

Here's little question: I'm planning to buy new SAK, because my old Ranger lost while i was on boat cruise... i've looked and compared diffrent SAK models and I have come to the conclusion that it's Sportsman or Mountaineer, so wich one you prefer? Mountaineer has more functions and Sportsman is little smaller... and the Ranger was little too big for me... hmm.bmp I have little problem too, i cant find anywhere neither Sportsman or Mountaineer here in finland... but i think it clears when i contact the SAK importer. hmm.bmp

I guess it really depends what you want.

Do you need the extra tools on the Mountaineer? if would go with a Sportsman.

Have you looked at other kinds? The Spartan or Tinker is similar to the Sportsman.

You can see various other kinds for comparison in the SAK section of our store

I just checked, and our store can ship to Finland. So if your really stuck that might be an option for you. wink.gif

Hello Guys.

I wanted to comment you my findings.

Flame's end - SAK is a Wenger Classic 11

user posted image

Three for the Road - Victorinox Camper (see you the Camping engraving)

Lost Treasure of Atlantis - Victorinox Hiker. Saw wood, no scissors. Look at the thickness of the layer.

Pilot - Victorinox Tinker small.

The Legend of the Holy Rose - Picknicker/ Adventurer /Rucksack ... I think is Picknicker model.

Regards.
