I'm working on the timeline. I know San Rochelle is a fictitious country and our map points out Isla de la Juventud as San Rochelle. Now I've calculated the distance and time it takes to fly from Fillmore to Isla de la Juventud and my calculations say it would take about 5 hours and 13 minutes to fly from Fillmore to Isla de la Juventud.
Yet MacGyver is knocked-out with the sleeping gas and wakes up the following morning as Abe says. MacGyver is surprised by saying: it is? There is no way, no way, MacGyver would still be flying by the time he wakes up if it only takes five hours of flight. I can dig he would still be snoring after he landed but not that he would still be flying. So either it just takes longer by chopper, even if it is the latest piece of military hardware. Still kinda slow if you ask me. Or they missed their stop.
I've been looking into the Carribean Sea. There are a few options though since we're dealing with a French dictator here. There are four French areas in the Carribean. It's either Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Barthélemy or French Guiana. Martinique has been visited and mentioned by MacGyver. So it's either one of those last three. Guadeloupe and Saint-Barthélemy are both about 8 hour flights and French Guiana is almost a ten hour flight.
French Guiana is however not in the Carribean but is located next to Suriname. Guiana, Suriname and French Guiana are however considered to be part of the Carribean region even though they are not located at the Carribean Sea but historically, cultural, linguistical and social-economically speaking, it belongs to the Carribean. Since it's not confirmed that San Rochelle is an island it might as well be French Guiana. It's the farthest away from the other islands, on the mainland and it might explain a longer flight.
Even though it is almost a ten hour flight, since they left in late afternoon and arrived in the morning, I'd say they must've had a delay of a few hours and that it indeed takes maybe even 12-13 hours with the chopper to arrive around breakfast time the next day. Of course it must be the same amount of time or even longer with the extra cargo after they got Peugot and his men so I think it's also fairly impossible that the entire San Rochelle part of the episode and Mac and Abe arriving just in time or a little late in the same day. It's just a bit tricky to know, since the entire episode is set during the day. Though you might say they probably could've changed their clothes by than.
Now, I'm just working on a hunch here. I need to figure out more stuff first before I can write it out. Might as well be Guadaloupe (an island and in the Carribean) which is the second longest distance with almost an 8 hour flight. Saint-Barthélemy takes about 7 hours and 45 minutes. It's only 15 minutes but hey... what the hell. I like doing this stuff.
Anyway what I wanted to say in the first place was that San Rochelle can't be Isla de la Juventud. It's not far away enough to take a whole night flying.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
