I work in the TV industry, I'm a series producer for factual entertainment, and work with all the main TV stations in Ireland. I have also done a bit of drama, and theatrical productions as well for PBS America.
I'm also heavily involved with the Irish Film and TV Academy (IFTA), and this has brought me into contact with many big name stars such as Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, and many more.

That looks like the building they used in the original pilot (first look).
Thought so, too! Also, while they scrapped the whole (unaired) pilot, there are still several similarities; e.g. the role of a female computer hacker (former Addison Timlin) and a female agency-type-boss (former Michelle Krusiec).

That's one thing I'm afraid of, that the new pilot will be basically the same but with the names of the new characters changed to those of the original series. So you end up with a Thornton and Jack Dalton who bear little resemblance to their namesakes.

Would that be such a bad thing? This is meant to be a new series. A re-imagining.
If they don't try to be different, they are deemed to be LAZY, and when they do change things, they are deemed to be disrespecting the original show. They can't win???
There are going to be a lot of things in this new series, we all are just going to have to get use too. Similar, to bringing a new baby into your home for the first time. Your whole life changes (for the better, even if you can't see it at the time). Life is never quite the same again, and you start a new chapter.
This is a new chapter in MacGyver's history even if the worlds are slightly blurred, or in a new paradox. Of course, the show will feel different, the theme tune will probably be more intense and perhaps more aggressive in it's tone. The style and pace of the series will be darker, grittier and completely different than that of the original. I have no doubt it will be a lot to get use too for some, and it won't be everyone's cup of tea but I'd rather watch a new MacGyver than have no new series at all. And look at the way it has brought people back to this website to chat and converse about the old, the new and everything in between.
I for one have waited 24years for this moment and I intend to enjoy every minute of the new series regardless, of the subtle or drastic changes they make, at the end of the day it's a new show. I'll be watching with fresh eyes and embrace the changes. I won't be watching with a critical eye on preserving the past. Any changes they make I feel will be in the best interest of the new show, and to allow the writing room the greatest scope possible, to breathe new life into this classic series. And I am happy to respect those decisions if it helps allow the series to grow and prosper into a 7 season plus show, like Hawaii 5.0.

We'll never know because we haven't seen the original except for the teaser.
They may have kept some elements and ideas from the original but I'm sure there will be plenty of new stuff in there as well. I said somewhere in here before that from what we're seeing it feels to me like they are drawing inspiration from TOS as well as the comic book series so we'll get a nice mixed up bag of all things MacGyver.

That already appears to have happened.

It hasn't. We've had 1 former member briefly return to make some comments and (I believe) has since disappeared again.
My first thought upon seeing that picture: "Why does that look so much like The Walking Dead?" Then I remembered that this show is being shot in Georgia, same as The Walking Dead.
Looks like they are re-recording the final action sequence from the original first look. I'm glad they didn't loose this, that was a very impressive macgyverism.
Looks as though Vinny Jones is finished his scenes on MacGyver episode 1. At least for the moment. Hope it's the first of many more appearances, please god

The dynamics for the original demanded a Father figure type role to be implemented and so this became the Pete Thornton we all came to know. If the dynamics for the re imagined show are likely to change, then a female figure might be what is needed. We are only seeing half the picture because we dont really know what the pilot will play like.
I have said it before but i will give the pilot a chance before making a judgment call. For what its worth though, i do like Sandrine Holt as an actress. She is "Cool"
"The bag's not for what I take, Colson - it's for what I find along the way."
I must say having watched the original series - thousands of times. I have never once picked up on the father/son relationship between Pete and MacGyver. Best friends maybe but not close family?
Yes they got on, they were close, but never did I get the father son vibe. Never!
I don't think this is an integral part needed within the new series. But should they use this, a mother and son's bond is much stronger angle, I have no doubt, Sandrine Holt and Lucas Till will be able to pull this off.

I agree. I never did that either. That Pete is about the closest Mac had to family is one thing of considering it but I couldn't name to what extend. To me they're just very close friends who can depend on each other whenever it's needed. And I think that's the best form of friendship there is.
If we consider Pete as father figure does that mean Patricia will be seen as a mother figure. If that's the case, this might become awkward. Imagine he comes back all dirty from an assignment and Patricia starts dusting him off and ruffle his hair and he goes 'Mooooom!'
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Yeah! Nope, I don't want to see that happening either.
I reckon some people are latching on too much to the whole "no living relative" thing! Never quite could understand that!
And then they are placing Pete in as a substitute father figure (possibly because of the age gap), at the end of the day they are best friends...end of story.
H.50 has a very strong family value message throughout - so doubt MacGyver will have this vibe also.
