MacGyver Online Forums > News Desk > MacGyver Movie Announced - again

Posted by: KiwiTek 5 February 2016 - 08:20 PM
Hot on the heals of http://www.macgyveronline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8640 we now hear a new announcement of a MacGyver movie from Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer. The announcement came during an earnings call today. There have been no details offered about the movie, other than it will be produced by series creator Lee David Zlotoff and Fast and Furious franchise producer, Neal Moritz.

A movie was originally announced back in 2012 to be produced by New Line Cinema with Furious 7 director James Wan ear-marked to direct, but he dropped out of the project to take up the Furious 7 helm and shortly thereafter the project was disbanded by rights holder and series creator Lee Zlotoff.

James Wan will still get his shot at MacGyver though. He's tagged to executive produce the CBS TV reboot which will serve as a prequel to the original series which stared Richard Dean Anderson and will focus on a twenty something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization from the original show.

Much like the show I am excited for this and honestly hope both happen.

This is a little confusing. I doubt both will be related (The reboot show and movie) so it could be possible that one will be delayed till the other comes out. Financially it makes sense because you don't want a reboot show to bomb and then the movie gets released to poor numbers.

Has anyone heard any updates about the movie? Since the new show has terribly disappointed me, I'm hoping the movie will do better.

Welcome to the forums Riddick. Unfortunately there has been no further update regarding the MacGyver movie. I also do not expect to see anything soon.

Yes, but as I said in my post, I can't stand the new show and I really hope the movie will be better. The movie is supposed to be completely separate from this new show. I haven't heard any updates about the movie since it was announced in Feb. I'd really like it if the producers of the movie would listen to fans and make a movie that we will all enjoy. CBS sure didn't listen to us with this new show.

Unlike Warner Brothers keeping universes separate such as the Flash TV series and the upcoming Flash movie which has no relevance to the show, CBS are not going to mix the two together at any point in time soon.

Despite our mixed opinions of the show, it is still doing well on network television and bringing in the numbers, otherwise they would not have ordered a full season.

Believe me, i am not exactly wild about this new violent Mac but others seem to like him. And at the end of the day, if he is bringing the money home, why complain? (That is how a network will see it)

Movies that get green lighted dont always get made immediately. Most of the time they sit in development hell. Not that this is the case with the MacGyver movie, but perhaps they are looking at how the show does before they make their move.
