I can't believe they sampled from some random cover they found off the internet. Why couldn't they use a piece of one of the official recordings of the original theme? Don't get me wrong, the intro is alright, but this is being produced by a major TV studio, they have more resources than someone who would just Google a random MP3 off the internet, I would assume.

When I saw the footage of the orchestra recording the new theme, I really liked it. But after hearing how they chopped it down and awkwardly mashed it up with the original theme, I'm liking it a lot less now. I almost feel badly for the composer because you can tell he wrote a better piece of music that just got edited down to this.

It sounds like they've just jammed the intro bit of the original theme onto the start of some random piece of non-related music in the same way they've jammed character names from the original onto unrelated people in the show.

Not impressed with this at all. It's total crap!!!

Yeah, it's Superman and not MacGyver, but it's the best example I can think of of taking an old theme and combining it with a new theme.

I first saw the fake one and thought it was the real one and got super excited, and then bummed to see that it was fake.

Me too! Because I saw it via Twitter and there was no indication on the Twitter-Post or on the Video-Title that this was kinda "fan-made"...

I don't hate the real one, but I'm not that fond of it either... it's not as bad as I feared, but could have been done so much better *sigh*

Yeah. They said they'd pay tribute to the original theme, but instead of throwing us a bone, they threw us a bone fragment.

Another example I thought of is Batman: The Animated Series opening theme. It has the Danny Elfman fanfares in it, but a lot of the stuff in between is new. What they should have done for MacGyver is thought up a new theme that includes pieces of the Edelman theme from the outset. Here, it looks like they set out to compose an entirely original theme and tossed in the first second of an MP3 of the original theme they chose at random from the internet and hastily slapped it on to the front of the new theme to appease fans who were angry over all the changes.

Because it's great and brings a lot of nostalgia. But I cannot imagine this as a real one used in reboot simply because it is a copy of the original, and nothing more.

Real opening it's not so great because original music motif don't much to the new one completely, and also because all opening in my opinion is too short. But it looks like as I was imagining and hoping it will look like - long sequence of "macgyverism" ended with:

I know it's not really the thing these days to have even minute long intros for TV shows, but this one does need to be longer. Maybe 20 seconds. That would give enough space for a more significant chunk of the original theme and more of the new theme. 15 seconds of the original theme followed by 25 of the new theme.

Exactly Widomaker, maybe then it would sound better.
