Hi guys

Just curious, but what are the masses saying about the new show? I don't do Twitter at all, and only use FB for pics and bits of personal stuff, so I have no clue what the general opinion has been?

I have seen posts on this site about people being rude and nasty, and as those posts aren't on here (I hope) then I am guessing it didn't go down so well last week?

I saw problems, yes, but i didn't think it was that bad?

I haven't been paying much attention to Twitter, or Facebook either... but from what I've read there's a lot of mixed responses. Some are excited and liked it, and others are furious about how this isn't MacGyver.

Generally it's either you love it or hate it.

Anyone else want to add to that? I haven't been paying much attention over those parts of the interwebs... >_<

I've been screening Twitter, FB and Instagram constantly since I started posting here about the reboot and even more often since I started my updates for the MacGyver Project. I had to give it up temporarily though because there's so much going on since the premiere that I can't keep up - there were like 10 tweets and more per minute when the pilot aired (usually its 2 or 3 per minute) and also more than usual in the days after the premiere.

Many, many tweets have been negative but it's typical to rant on Twitter if you don't like something instead of tweeting about something you like.

One thing I find annoying is how Lenkov only retweets his
good feedback. Never comments on negative reactions. It's frustrating because it makes me think that he doesn't seem to accept negative feedback.

It kinda makes sense. He's trying to promote the show. After all, you don't promote/sell things by showing the worst bits.

Having said that response of some kind would go a long way in this situation.

I keep harping back to the Knight Rider reboot, but those guys were in the Knight Rider forums every day talking with the fans and actually making the changes being suggested.

Everything from the way Kitt transformed through to Story arcs were designed from our feedback and it made the fans feel much more connected because they had direct input to the show.

I'd really like to see this crew take the same path of discussing with the fans and taking the most important/strongest(?) suggestions and implementing them. There's so much feedback being made about the same things it's going to be a death sentence if they ignore them.

I actually liked Knight Rider by the time it ended. I won't be staying with this that long. 😞

Lol I'm sure they keeps tabs on us, but we're not their only source of feedback... which is why we've been encouraged to voice ourselves on social media. I don't because I don't have the time or energy... especially if someone wants to argue with me.

But, you'd be surprised that we do get some pretty fun visitors every now and again. wink.gif

Well, not everyone. It's sometime not a bad idea to have a reminder; not everyone is willing to scout several threads and look several pages back in there...

I didn't know, so thanks for posting about it!

I'm kind of surprised to see him appearing so early. For some reason, I imagined they would save him for much later in the season. But maybe they're going to do something similar to what they did with Wo-Fat in Hawaii 5-0: Introduce him early, have him escape, and then bring him back for the final few epieosdes of the season as the main antagonist.

I guess the episodes were already written and sorted out before they knew they would get a full season of 22 episodes.

Originally, only 13 episodes were planned; so having Murdoc appear in episode 8 makes sense...

I think they're trying to keep the audience rates high as possible just in case, when they tell Murdoc will be coming already now, so more people would be interested to see what kind of episode it's gonna be.

I sometimes question whether it truly gained much public attention, its popularity continues to decline and the ratings have stayed very much the same. I have deep concerns with regards to this series and what will happen in the long run... unsure.gif

In my opinion, the Pilot and the first two episodes were too weak. So many people checked in to see the pilot; I think if that one had been better and if the first episodes had been as good as the last two or three, the ratings wouldn't have declined so much.

There are still a huge number of people watching MacGyver at the moment compared to other shows. Its normal for any show to decline in the numbers as it finds its feet and its audience. But from what i see the last three episodes have stayed on the 7 million mark so i suspect its starting to sustain.

Compared to other shows out there and there are many to choose from this is not a bad watch IMO. Yes, it is not the show we want and for me, Eads continuously annoys me but i'd rather watch this show as opposed to a dozen others.

I already know it will never be the original but it makes for a okay 45 minute watch.

There also seems to be something thrown into every episode to keep you there. Tactics? No doubt! But it seems to be working.

Sort of. biggrin.gif

I enjoy it a lot and to be honest most episodes I put in the middle (if I were to rank ever single episode) in fact episodes like toothpick are better then pretty much all of season 7. There is a lot I love and it's odd byt I am growing to love Till's performance more and more in much the same way I love Dalton and Craig equally I may love Till and Anderson equal as well.

For me, i don't hate Till's performance. Its the damn team. Cant stand it!

Imagine how good this would stand out if you had him doing this alone with occasional support from his colleagues / friends?

I think there's an imbalance between Eads and Till, which doesn't really work.

Till's performance is fine for the more serious stuff, but there's no spark. I think back to some of RDA's funny facial expressions, for example, when he was panicking or exasperated about something, and he really brought a good level of personality and comedy to the role. I don't see that from Till.

On the other hand, Eads seems to be overcompensating for Till's dryness, and it can get annoying. It's as if the writers have decided "Mac is the serious one, Jack is the funny one", and it makes both characters a bit too one-dimensional.

Still, having said that, I find the show pretty watchable in spite of its flaws. But it's sort of like candy, rather than a meal. There are plenty of better shows out there with a lot more substance, better characters, better stories, etc, but those shows require some level of concentration and commitment. MacGyver, on the other hand, is pure fluff, and it's something I can turn on when I just want to be entertained for 45 minutes without really having to get involved in anything. In other words, it's enjoyably mindless entertainment... sort of like watching a cartoon, I guess.
