QUOTE | Posted by: MacGyver Feb 5 2006, 11:25 AM "Fraternity of Thieves"- I think this was a pretty good episode. We saw MacGyver really come to the rescue by saving Pete from being poisoned. And Papillion was pretty ruthless and that added to the suspense. And I also liked to see the relationship with Pete and his son. It was good to see them work things out by the end of the episode. And MacGyver gave us some choice words of advice for parenting. "A parent can only take so much responsibility." sak.gif duct.gif |

QUOTE | This was only an OK-episode for me. A less good episode than most of them. Unfortunately. |

QUOTE | i liked this episode quite a lot actually.
Given the production was'nt as good as it is in today's tv show.s it was still a great episode.
Quite good story line, fairly good production for 1988?

QUOTE | I rated this one as good. Not one of my absolute faves, but a good story about Pete's son getting caught up in something that turned out to be a lot bigger and a lot worse than he thought it would be. I do sort of wish they'd brought Mike back again for another ep later on... maybe show him and Pete reconciling after Mike's stupidity got him in trouble. My one nitpick on this one... Mike was blond in this ep, whereas he was a redhead in "Family Matter." Then again, redheaded actors are kind of a rare commodity, so I suppose it can be forgiven.
Liked Mac saving Pete's life. Liked the tension between Mike and Pete, too. I thought it was a pretty good portrayal of a father and son who never got to know each other. Oh, and I also really liked the scene where Mike is getting ready to go into the sting, and says to Mac, "It was just a game, like Dad used to play." Love Mac's response and the look on his face in that moment. |

QUOTE | It was a different actor as well (probably to show the change of being like a kid in his really early twenties, not much younger or older then Sam into a kid going to his 25th birthday or something, he's not just only the son of the boss he's now the son and colleague) and did you never heard of hairpaint? BTW this actor Hank Stratton once played in an episode of Saved By The Bell. |

The original actor (T. Scott Coffey) would have been older in this episode, so I think its more likely that they couldn't get Coffey for the part to had to re-cast the role.

QUOTE | I actually really like this one, voted excellent. Though, I agree they could have at least given Mac a different shirt than the previous episode.
I like the espionage type stuff in this episode.
I also like the scene where Pete's son gives him the cashmere jacket. Pete is so happy, not only with the gift, but also that he's reconnecting with his son. All the while we know that his son is just using him. Betrayed by his own son--it makes you feel for him. Great scene.
I agree with Macgyverismydad, I like the scene when Pete gets all emotional and yells, "No dammit!" Classic.
They re-used a line from "North by Northwest" (one of my favorite movies) in this episode. It's in the scene where Papillon is telling the kid that his friend got shot. The kid asks who was responsible and Papillon says, "FBI, CIA, NSC, DXS, it's all the same alphabet soup." The Professor in NBNW has a very similar line. See (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053125/quotes) Anybody else catch that? It's kind of a nod to the film. I thought that was cool.
Definitely check out North by Northwest if you haven't seen it. Great film! Possibly Hitchcock's best. |

QUOTE | one thing i always wondered about this ep is...when papyion tells shimmer or whaterver the big guys name was to use the proxic acid pen type weapon he doesnt mention anything about a "anti dote" until after he freaks out and knocks over his butterfly display case. now my question is do you think he would have gave him the "anti dote" anyways even if he didn't knock over the display case or do you think when he knocked it over that angered papyion and he decided to tell him to take the pill so he died. |

QUOTE | Well the guy who was with Pete when they found the two dead guys at the mall said it was an old KGB trick to give the assasin a poison tablet and tell him its the antidote for the spray. I think he said somethign about a good way of covering their tracks with both the assasin and the target dead theres no way of tracing the hit.
Based on that I would say he planned to give it to him as a way of cutting off any links back to him. |
