Chips is maybe one of those tv-show I might check out when I've got everything else. A movie is one thing but I heard on remaking TV-shows and that is what I think a bad idea. What are they going to do remake episodes?

I once read that Saved By The Bell was going to be remade as well. You'll never find a better actor to play Zack Morris than Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Or Mario Lopez for AC Slater.

Besides they already made Saved By The Bell The New Class for that matter and I don't think it was succesfull.

Knight Rider has already been remade, how did that one went? For as far I know it hasn't been aired here yet, but I've seen a dvdbox already.

On the other hand it's just like with movies, you got to find the right persons if they at least want to do a decent try to reach up for that right level again.

If the plans are solid or it is a certainty that it will be remade, I'd see it more as a chance to make the episodes that didn't made it in the originally show. Maybe they need to be rewritten and modernized. But I doubt if remaking shows can last seven seasons. And I mean seasons with 22 episodes per season.

The new knight Rider show didn't do so well, even thou the fans was telling I think

it was NBC not to make a tv show after they saw the movie they went ahead and

made a new tv show, but NBC found out really fast that the fans meant what was they was saying. I think there was alot of different things fans didn't like of the show.

Now if they do a new Chips tv show they better find the right people to play the parts, I would love to see a new generation of Chips but with most of the old players of the show in the mix.

The downfall of Knight Rider was NBC themselves. They never really promoted or supported the show and where happy to pull the plug even after they had fixed the mistakes as requested by the fans.

I think in truth, Knight Rider is a prime example of how badly things can go wrong when you have the wrong people making the wrong decisions for all the wrong reasons.

You really need the original driving force behind any revamp of a TV show, which is why I'm happy to see Lee Zlutoff involved in the MacGyver movie. Even though I think it will be very much based on the first season MacGyver, at least it will be along the lines of zlutoffs original concept.

The only 'remake' that was succesful was turning ZyuRanger into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. If you can call it remakes. Most of the battles were just chopped into an American version and dubbed over and mostly shortened.

Not a CHIPS man myself but for the fans here visit the Film Score Monthly home page. They just released vol. 2 of music from the series. Not that you could hear it over the sound of the motorcycles.

I liked the power rangers well the first two seasons after that it just became bad. I

think there still changeing it into other things.

I don't think CHiPs could work in today's world. It's too innocent. And if you strip away that innocence and try to make it fit the grittier & more realistic tone of today's shows, then it loses the essence of what the show was, and it's not CHiPs anymore, so why bother calling it that?

True. But there were other problems as well. Again, as with CHiPs, I think Knight Rider was a product of its time. It was the 80s, everything was about excess. A talking car that could drive itself, etc, fit right into that. Also, it was a time when people were becoming fascinated by the untapped potential of computers. Keep in mind, computers back then were still fairly simple, so the idea of computers being able to drive cars and whatnot was a great fantasy that got people excited. These days, we're all carrying around blackberries and iPhones that have more computing power than the desktops of the 80s did. The fantasy became a reality, and therefore it's no longer interesting.

Actually I think the team did a good job of pushing the technology envelope in the new Knight Rider. The heads up display was pretty kewl along with how Kitt could interface with all the modern gizmos and gadgets.

And regardless of what anyone says, we still don't have cars talking and driving themselves.. so it is still a fantasy. smile.gif But it's not new and that's the problem. Whenever you remake something it will always be compared to our often romanticized or rose colored memories of the original.

Did they make a Chips TV movie back in 2000?

The only moment I actually recall of Chips is when they made a cameo in National Lampoons Loaded Weapon 1.
