Should this reboot be successful, I would like to see the writers re-imagine some past episodes or throw their own unique spin on them.

My most favourite episode of MacGyver has to be Countdown from Season 1, and I would love to see an new episode similar in style, (but not necessarily a carbon copy) to this episode.

Followed shortly behind a re-imaginging of the episode - Kill Zone.

I think both these episodes showcase MacGyver at his very best.

Which episode would you like to see being re-imagined?

Yeah don't want a carbon copy because that would run the risk of appearing like they don't have any good ideas for new episodes. There's enough of that going already just from the reboot alone.

However it would be cool to see some updated versions of old classics, maybe they could use the list they gathered for the Fan Favorites DVD.

I'd also like to see these episodes rebooted as well.

The Lost Amadeus was a very good plot ruined by Lulu Lemon, & the brutal slapshtick intervention
- just when it was getting interesting. International art/antique intrigue is my preferred
plot subject and what better than an adventure around a Mozart owned Stradivarius? Nothing!

Well, I'm hoping the series will be like most modern series, in that it won't have stand-alone episodes (I'd prefer one continuing adventure, spanning the entire series.) If that happens, then I really don't see them re-imagining any past episodes. But, I could see them borrowing some classic situations. For example, Mac could find himself in a situation where he's trapped in the Phoenix Foundation (or DXS?) like he was in the original series with his Granfather (I forget the name of the episode... the one that had the hilarious moment when the woman killed herself by doing a flying kick out of the window.) Or he could be trapped on a mountain side while the villain is coming after him, like in the Widowmaker.
But overall, I hope it's mainly all new situations.

I'm with Miasma on this one. Are stand-alone episodes still of this age?

Excellent point, Miasma. I think MacGyverGod, there are a few shows still doing the standalone episodes. But they are few and far between.

Most series nowadays, have a good structure to their seasons. While each episode might have a story that is self-contained to that episode (called the B-story). The A-story is generally arced over the course of one season or the entire series.

CBS are very good at this, a good example would be CSI. They did this extremely well with the miniature killer storyline that spanned more than one season. Perhaps CBS will do something similar with MacGyver. I'd personally love to see a story spanning over the course of a season that culminates in Mac coming face to face with Murdoc or even Dr.Zito.

All I wish and pray for is - that this new series, doesn't go like super girl or any other of those super hero type shows. For example, I'd hate to see MacGyver having to fight or fend off unrealistic Zombies, Aliens, or Super-humans. You know the type of show I am describing? That would ruin the credibility of show entirely for me.

But that being said, I did enjoy the cleaver writing in the episodes The Human Factor, The Secret of Parker House, and Ghost Ship... So perhaps allowing them to go a little close to the edge and blur the lines somewhat, would be acceptable.

What are your thoughts on this?

I don't mind having a story-arc over several episodes or even an entire season (if there is also room for other things; especially character development).

But sometimes, the story-arcs in newer TV-shows seem to "big" for me. Like, there are several running in parallels with flashbacks and flashworwards and hundreds of new characters and enemies and it gets so complicated, even if you don't miss a single episode you get confused.

The trend these days tends to be towards shorter seasons, though, so even if the story spans the entire season, that's most likely only going to be about 12 episodes, which prevents things from getting overly complex. Also, I don't think they'd be too concerned about people missing episodes since so many people either have DVRs, or the ability to watch "on demand," or through Hulu or whatever.

Of course, we're getting WAY ahead of ourselves. The show might be awful and get cancelled after two episodes! wink.gif

Sorry to go slightly off topic.

Wasn't sure were to post this,

But was looking on the new MacGyver imdb page, and noticed that MacGyver's best friend is not called Gunner anymore, they have renamed this character Hunter.

I apologies if someone has already flagged this or not.

But I'm delighted someone had the foresight to change this character's name.

Staying faithful to my namesake, I'd kinda like to see them do another Widowmaker-style episode, with Murdoc hunting MacGyver on a mountain while MacGyver grieves the loss of a friend. There's just something really epic about MacGyver fighting for his life against a seemingly unkillable psychopathic assassin on the face of a cliff.
