eMacGyverf: Levy Tran Joins Cast Of CBS Series Following George Eadsf Exit
EXCLUSIVE: Levy Tran (The Haunting Of Hill House, Shameless) has been cast in a major recurring role on CBSf action drama series MacGyver. She plays a new character that would help fill the void left by the departure of series co-lead George Eads.
Tran, whose first episode airs Feb. 15, will play Desiree Nguyen (Desi), who joins the Phoenix Foundation to protect MacGyver (Lucas Till) and his team on their global missions.
As CBS often does on its shows, Tran is joining as a recurring. If the introduction of her character is successful and if MacGyver is renewed for a fourth season, CBS and producing studio CBS TV Studios have an option to make her a series regular and potential new co-lead opposite Till.
Eads, whose character Jack Dalton had previously worked with Desi, made his exit from MacGyver in the most recent episode on Feb. 1.

Preview for Episode 3x15
Hm...
Desi has some spunk, but I don't know... they're doing pretty much the same as they did with Cage and Leanna - "hey look, girls can kick butts, too". She's a bit of a know-it-all that can do everything better than the guys.
I thought Leanna was finally getting a bit more interesting in Season 2 and then they kinda dropped it in Season 3; trying to make her a know-it-all badass in 3x01 (after being a big of a damsel in distress in the early episodes, she suddenly can fight villains twice her size, shoot a gun, speak other languages AND fly a chopper) and then all she got during the season was being OCD with the fridge and afraid of committing. Similar to Cage, she stayed kinda bland like they suddenly forgot what to do with her.
So they better give Desi some character development fast or she will end up on the dropped-character-pile as soon as the others which would be a pity.

I don't know. I didn't like Cage from day 1 (brain hacker, really? ) and you know I dislike Leanna. IMO totally bland, blah and unbelievable. (she won the plank challenge w/o straining at all? Don't think so.) I grant she's pretty, but for me that's all she brings to the table.
Now this preview excites me. Of course it's a small sample, but I buy her as a sassy bada$$. And I think there are endless possibilities for conflict with Mac. She's not going to understand how he works and he has a tendency to just run off when he has an idea (even Jack was exasperated when they first met ) as long as she doesn't become a love interest. and as long as Mac is the main focus of every episode (loved the hacks ep. 14)

Hi,
I absolutely agree she will definitely bring the conflict with Mac and the team. She does appear to be very aggressive, which I don't think is necessary given Jack was never this aggressive. I hope the meeting when Mac is in a towel doesn't make her a love interest.
It appears Mac seems annoyed when he says she's intense. I think she can still be a strong character without making her act so intense.
Riley is a good character that was developed well this season so this extremely aggressive character could turn fans off. I do hope they learned from the Cage debacle, but I am not sure.
I understand they couldn't introduce this character as recurring initially because there are only so many episodes left and they need to give fans a chance to really see the character to determine if she returns as a regular.
I will not be happy if any of the characters especially Riley are pushed to the back because of her.
I will wait for the episode to air, but from what I have seen in the promo, I don't think I am going to like her character.

I think it's hilarious that they added the scar in post-production. In the photo posted by Lenkov back then, it hadn't been there yet. So they actually HAD forgotten about it until the fans asked why Mac never has a scar anymore.
(They hadn't bothered to put it onto him in 2x03 when he was handcuffed to the bed with Riley posing as the girlfriend and them pretending the ylost the key for the handcuffs.)

Not only is she a bada$$ she's a smart a$$ too. but she'll find out
Curious if they tone her down a bit because Cage was a bit like that in the beginning as well. Though I guess since Jack was a really "loud" and present character, she has big shoes to fill...

I just noticed how Desi is billed in "recurring"... Interesting Wonder if she'll eventually get promoted to the main cast or not
Probably cheaper that way
According to my BtS photos, she's been on set for every episode so far, so she's kinda already a regular for the rest of the season... and it looks like she filmed a few days with Lucas while Tristin and Justin had the day off. So I'm assuming she's pretty much a new Jack when it comes to screentime; with Mac and Desi on the main mission.
Curious what that means for the credits, though... and for Reign as Leanna. Because I feel like Tristin deserved to be the 2nd, and I'd hate if she lost her position to a "newbie" and got less screentime or character development next season. I certainly would like to see her paired up with Levy every now and then (like they did with Riley and Cage or Riley and Leanna).
But I'm pretty sure Levy will be a regular next season; unlike Reign. They already don't seem to know what to do with her character.

Not that many questions about the Reboot as I expected.
Tristin Mays Fall Cover Star Interview (2018) by Rose Gordon October 30, 2018
Tristin Mays. Fun. Fearless. Beautiful.
1. Please introduce yourself. Where are you from and how old are you? I was born in New Orleans Louisiana, but I was raised in NY. I'm 28
2. What is the most challenging role you've ever been cast as? I haven't had a role yet that has been extremely difficult. I look forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and playing a character that really challenges me. A mental disability, split personalities, something like that.
3. How do you relate with your character, Riley Davis on MacGyver? My character was in prison when you first meet her, but besides that, I was blessed to book the perfect role where I get to be 100% myself. The clothes, the way I speak, everything. Playing her is so much fun because I also get to kick butt and break the law without getting in trouble!
4. Please take us through daily life on set? The day starts off with hair and makeup. Breakfast. Cartoons with my dog in the trailer. Then camera rehearsal. We go straight into shooting. We move so fast from episode to episode a lot of times we don't even have time to know what we are doing ahead of time really, so we just show up on set ready for anything. Somehow it all comes out perfectly!
5. How do you relax after a long day of filming? After I get home and shower and all that good stuff, I study my likes for the next day to get it out of the way as I'm waiting for my food to be delivered. (Always too tired to cook, except on weekends). Then I watch a few episodes of Locked up Abroad, or I play a video game (Spider-Man is my current weakness) with my dog and try to escape the world for a moment before going to sleep and starting all over again.
6. Were you a fan of the original MacGyver tv show? My dad introduced me to Macgyver shorty before I auditioned for the show. I have an old soul, and I love all the classic tv shows from the '80s. I was actually disappointed in myself for not knowing anything about Macgyver. It was such a fascinating show.
7. Which Actor or Actress would you like to co-star with? I would really like to work with Jake Gyllenhaal. I feel like we would work really well together. Maybe because he reminds me a little of my brother. Hmmmm.
8. What inspired you to begin your acting career? My parents got me into acting before I was old enough to know what I was doing. I'm really grateful for that.
9. Following and collaborating with you on this Magazine issue, it is obvious, that your favorite color is black. Explain to our readers your love for the color black? I don't have darkness inside of me, but I do tend to always gravitate toward black. Could be the mystery. Or the way it looks on me. Maybe it's my comfort color.
10. What has been the most challenging obstacle you've faced since you've become an Actress? The most challenging obstacle all of us face at one point as actors are getting the opportunities to prove ourselves and our skills. Which is why a lot of us now are creating our own projects.
11. Which social media platform are you most frequent? Instagram is my social media platform of choice. It's easy, it's fun.
12. What advice would you give to any aspiring actress/ actors? Don't get too comfortable. Acting and performing is a constant work in progress. Put in the work, keep getting better, and don't give up.
