On the way back from capturing a war criminal, Mac and Jack’s helicopter crashes in a remote area of Kazakhstan, injuring their pilot and allowing their prisoner to escape with Jack’s gun. Using a large blade and a water bottle, MacGyver must get help as the pilot’s condition worsens and before the war criminal takes them as prisoners, on MACGYVER, Friday, Jan. 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Two things I like about this plot description:

1. "Mac and Jack’s helicopter crashes in a remote area of Kazakhstan"-- Sounds like only Mac and Jack will be having the adventure, no Bozer and no Riley. I'm sure Bozer and Riley will be in the episode, and I'm sure Riley will help them remotely with her computer skills, but they won't ALL be out in the field, which is good.

2. " prisoner to escape with Jack’s gun"-- Sounds like another episode in which Jack won't be using his gun all the time!

I wonder if Victor is based of Victor from Humanity... but, that could be coincidence. Same with "Cynthia", who could be Cynthia Wilson?

The rest of "Team MacGyver" is also listed for the episode and will show up for sure, but it's a nice change for "Mac and Jack" to be out alone in the field for once.

Also, they've finally started doing what we've been preaching about for weeks now - make Jack lose his gun or render it useless so MacGyver can do his "thing" and get them out of trouble.

I've always rolled my eyes a bit at Stargate SG-1 when they've lost another sarcophagus or found another reason why they couldn't beam themselves out of trouble - but that's exactly what the writers had to do to keep up with writing interesting stories. Finding another sarcophagus in the bad guy's lair or having beaming technology on spaceships was a neat idea, but it would have been boring if the SGC had a sarcophagus or a healing device at hand all the time. It's why I stopped watching the "Vampire Diaries". You can only kill and resurrect so many main characters until it gets boring...

It makes sense Jack wouldn't bring his gun in Episode 10 (Pliers) to MacGyver's hometown, but of course he would it bring on a mission. So lets find a way why he can't use it and write it into the storyline. Nice!

Macgyver comes back

I haven't posted in a while but recently I have really been enjoying the MacGyver reboot. It feels much more heavy to watch than the original, for me at least. But it's not that heavy compared with other shows of today.

I hope this isn't really off topic because this post is all about Riley. I really like Riley. Among all the MacGyver characters in the reboot, she's the one that is really fresh because she's a new character, unlike the others who were reimagined. Also, we get to see her do something that the original MacGyver series never had, which I guess is a good thing when you take into account that it's a reminder that MacGyver is now here in the 21st century. I do feel that the show would also do good without any hacker, but y'know it's not all that bad to have one, I guess. Any thoughts on her?

Interesting. To me, it usually feels very light-hearted. Jack is always cracking jokes, Bozer is always goofing around, and the background music is usually kind of whimsical. I actually wish the show felt a bit "heavier" at times. Not that I want it to be all dark and gritty, but sometimes it feels a bit TOO light-hearted, even in scenes when it should feel tense.

After more than two decades in showbiz, Tristin Mays has landed a plum TV role that she swears was made for her.
“I am Riley Davis and Riley Davis is me,” Mays declared during an interview at the Moreno Valley home where she grew up as a teenager.

“I’m just being myself,” Mays said. “I was already prepared for this role because I love gadgets, video games and technology. I don’t do computer hacking, though, but I’m learning a lot,” she added with a laugh.

For the interview, she’s wearing khaki cargo pants, black workman’s boots with thick rubber soles, a black tank top and long black cardigan. It’s one of her typical on-camera outfits. “All of my clothes come from my own closet,” Mays said. “Playing the hot, sexy girl at school is just not me. At the audition, I knew I was that character Riley, a tomboy.”

But the Riley Davis role is the break she’s been waiting for, she said. She works on the set daily from 5:30 a.m until 9 p.m., accompanied by her rescue dog, Sergeant, a German shepherd mix. Often the shoot includes back-to-back, 60-minute episodes, which requires quick memorization of the scripts.

“Then I go home and have to get ready for the next day,” she said. Much of her free time is spent FaceTiming her family. “I bug them so much,” she said. There’s no boyfriend “because I haven’t met the right person.”

All of the high-octane chasing, running from explosions, jumping and leaping on the show – most emphatically not in high heels – replace workouts at a health club. “We do have stunt doubles,” Tristin Mays said, “but we do a lot ourselves.”

Her mother admits to being “a little bit concerned about that.” But mostly, she’s proud, “amazed and excited” for her daughter “I’m smiling while watching each show,” Viveca Mays said.

Her wearing her own clothing reminds me of how RDA started off wearing his own stuff.... aka the brown bomber jacket.

Since I saw the first pictures of her as Riley I was wondering if she was wearing her own clothes - because I noticed that in some of the first episodes she seemed wearing the same pants that she's wearing on "private" pictures on her social media accounts.

I like her character's style. I think Riley looks very feminine despite wearing more "comfy" clothes than main actors are usually allowed to; so I'm very glad CBS didn't order her to put on some skimpy outfits and high heels to run around in. Also, her having to dress up or go undercover (e.g. as in "Corkscrew") has a much more surprising effect that way.

There’s a lot of stunts and stunt driving on Monster Trucks and there’s a lot of action on MacGyver. How much do you do?

I try to do as many as they let me. On episode seven, you can tell it’s clearly not me and it was embarrassing. But most of the time, especially in fight scenes, I try to do as much as I can. On Monster Trucks, I was surprised at how much they let me do. They were letting me crawl across the top of it, jump down the side of it, all kinds of stuff. It was awesome.


Have you learned any science from doing MacGyver?

I have, but I [also] learned a lot of science before that from my mom, because she’s a chemist. She was on set the other day showing me pictures of experiments she’s doing at work, lighting stuff on fire, chemicals changing color and glasses exploding.


What’s it like MacGyvering things?

I actually enjoy that stuff. Some days it can be a little stressful because you have to problem solve, even though it’s all there and they’re telling you what to do. Sometimes they don’t even know what it should look like, and you’ve got to put your own style into the MacGyvering of it.


What have you learned to do?

I learned how to make elephant toothpaste. Basically, it just expands really fast and I use it to save the day in an episode. I learned how to make an endoscope using a Swiss Army Knife, a cell phone camera, cell phone and chewing gum. Some of the stuff is debatable as to whether or not it works; some of it actually does work.


You started acting in movies when you were 13; you played young Johnny Cash in Walk the Line and Havok in the X-Men franchise. What attracted you to a MacGyver and a TV series?

In the beginning it was just because it was supposed to shoot in Portland, Oregon, and I thought, “Yes, I want to do that.” I think I said even, “I don’t want to do TV,” and my manager was like, “Well, it shoots in Portland,” and I was like, “Well, then send me the script.” So they did, and I was like, “All right.” I went into the meeting and I really liked what they had to say, so I was like, “Lets try this out.” Needless to say, I’ve really enjoyed it a lot, so I made the right decision there.


Is one of the things that maybe you like about MacGyver the fact that you actually get to play a full-blown adult?

Yeah, I never thought that was going to happen, at least not for another decade.


George Eads, who plays MacGyver’s friend Jack Dalton on the show, was on CSI for more than a dozen years. This is your first time as the lead on a series. Has he taught you anything?

He’s taught me about what to expect, what to prepare for, because it’s just so different, so fast. It’s so long; its a marathon instead of a sprint. He’s been there to pick me up for all the times that I’ve needed someone. When I felt like no one was listening, George was always there to be like, “Hey, man…” Either encouragement or, “Hey, it ain’t going to get any easier.” He picks me up in two different kinds of ways. I couldn’t have done it without him, that’s for sure.


Have you heard from Richard Dean Anderson, the original MacGyver?

No. I don’t know that he’s upset with me, but I don’t think he likes the new MacGyver… or something. I would hope that one day he could come around and make a cameo or have a bigger role on the show.

Because you started acting in film so young, have you ever had to have another job?

Not really. But that doesn’t stop me from having friends that have normal jobs. It’s very unrelatable for people who don’t work the same hours. And I respect anyone who’s in television; I had no idea it was as grueling as it can be. It’s crazy, extremely hard work. Other people just don’t understand. Acting is not a normal job, no, but I don’t think that takes me out of the game as far as having had the experience of being a hard worker.

Meredith Eaton Set To Join The MacGyver Cast
The actress will be joining The Phoenix Foundation as Matilda "Matty" Weber this season.

The Phoenix Foundation just gained a new member! Actress Meredith Eaton will join your favorite ragtag crime-solving team. She can be seen in the upcoming episode "Large Blade" as the new Director of Operations, Matilda Webber (AKA "Matty").

Webber has a dark history with Jack Dalton—who affectionately refers to her as "Matty the Hun." Dalton served under her in the CIA for 18 months in South America. Clearly, fans can expect to meet a no-nonsense, highly-respected covert ops legend!

As a recurring character on NCIS for over six seasons, Eaton is no stranger to the CBS family. The star has also appeared in other dramas, including NCIS: New Orleans, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and more.
