It's not clear yet when the show will air. The schedule will be revealed at the CBS upfronts on May 18.
But since "Hawaii Five-0" and "Blue Bloods" have been renewed as well and CBS always won the Friday Ratings, I guess all three shows will air on Fridays again.

Well they sure as heck ain't puttin' her in front of Monday Night Football, ever again.
Were the ratings that bad?
Maybe, maybe not. Imo, the original was much more tailored for a Monday Night Football pre-game television tailgate party. This one, (ermm) not so much.

You know, despite how much I complain about this show, I'm glad it got renewed. It's become one of my guilty pleasures, and discussing it on this site has been entertaining. I do hope, though, that they improve the show a bit. I'm not even saying that they necessarily need to make it more like the original series, just make it better than it currently is. Focus more on the action/adventure, less on the comedy. Add some tension. Vary the formula more. Develop Mac's personality a bit (again, he doesn't have to be exactly like the original, but give him SOME substance beyond just a guy who does MacGyverisms.) etc, etc.

Personally, I'm glad it got renewed too.
It's not a bad show, and I have come to like it. Not the original, of course, but I think it has some good qualities to it.
And if it's any consolation, the original show didn't really kick off for me personally until Season 3. I actually skipped most of Season 2 until I got to Season 7, then I went back and finished it.
I think this version is going to do very well, as long as they understand they have the opportunity to make a positive impact on their viewers.
Anyone ever hear what happened to those female engineer shows that was supposed to happen? Did that fall through the cracks? Seems like folks kinda forgot about it.

Yes, me too.
I never thought I would see #MacGyver trending on Twitter today. These months have been very exciting. It made people talk about MacGyver on social media and discuss their childhood memories; to start watching the original again. Also, it brought a lot of people here to discuss and reminisce what made MacGyver so good.
I guess they get a budget raise to step up the production game. Also, now that they don't have to deal with a reshoot again, I really hope they spend more time on the scripts and the characters (instad of sets and special effects). I don't want to diss the script writers, but I think there's so much more potential in these characters they created.
And as you said, MacGyver really needs some depth. He's not just that cool guy with his creations and the SAK. I don't need that preachy tone of the later season, but it wouldn't hurt to see a bit more about what makes him tick. I think the only real insight was in Episode 6 (Wrench) with Pena and his time as EOD tech.
Even the whole Nikki debacle left him kinda unfazed. Yes, he spent episodes 2 to 5 in her apartment looking for clues and following them, but I couldn't have cared less about it because the way she was introduced in the pilot, I never cared for her. Also, there was no fallout in Episode 12. They spent the night and said goodbye and she disappearend and was never mentioned again until the crossover episode. I think they missed some good opportunities here.

Well, it looks like some made a few 180 degree turns.
A year ago it was: 'the new show is going to suck,' 'it's not the same without RDA,' and 'hate it already!'
And now, we're all glad it got a second season.

Well, looking forward to Season 2 doesn't mean we're fully embracing it - just check into the episode discussion thread and see how much we still have to criticize every time a new episode aired
But I think being negative all the time doesn't change anything - the reboot is here, so we might as well deal with it and help to make it better .
Production is on hiatus now (not counting the editing process that's still going on), but it won't be for long. I'm assuming they'll start filming in July again, so there's only three months left. They have to write new episodes based on the storylines they probably already discussed so they can start casting and building sets.
Lenkov said in an interview (back in December, I think?) that he can't really take the fan-based reviews into consideration since they're so far ahead in production (e.g. when the pilot premiered, they were already shooting Episode 6; and I'm sure the rest of the scripts were already outlined and partially written).
It's more important than ever now that we tell the showmakers what we like and what we like to see more on the next season - before they've already written and filmed the next 10 episodes.

Are you sure MacGyverGod ? Those who have reacted so far like the show or at least are curious to know what will happen in season two .
I still think it sucks ! And this second season won't make me change my mind.
Well I said some but not all.
But I think it's nice to see people are coming around. Still can't say anything about since I haven't seen anything yet. I think the show will be aired here next fall. We're usually a year behind. But I sure am curious.

I mean it's all a fascinating, cross-sectional workshop in human psychology, isn't it? There's lots of common ground, but at the end of the day, everybody's got their own selfish and/or whimsical agenda and/or financial quota to satisfy. All justified. But what you or I individually desire in the series, doesn't mean a thing. It's all about the general consensus of today's target market, what collective features maximize ratings, and thus draw in advertising bucks, and thus perpetuate the series. Some of the ideas/wants here are fantastic and would make an incredible value added to the series .... but they wouldn't necessarily pay a wooden nickel in this day and age's mindset. I could go on .... but lets let the series do that and enjoy the ride!

I doubt we'll ever get the MacGyver WE know. But MacGyver 2.0 is.... doable. It works for this generation... obviously.
I still prefer my idea that it should have gone animated. RDA could have voiced it, and things kept the same... and everyone would be happy.
If I had an ounce of talent, I'd do it... or better yet, build an open world MacGyver game. That would be awesome....

I suspect they would not have done anything of that nature because despite the original having a vast fan-base, we are not a younger generation. A new cartoon or open world game would just not appeal to those who never saw the original show. How many fans of the original H5-0 watch the new one? Probably around 1%.
MacGyver's original fan-base is obviously greater but the majority of people enjoying and watching the new MacGyver are the younger generation. And as far as Lenkov is concerned thats good enough for him.

I disliked it from the get go, gave up after a few episodes, and don't think any amount of arm twisting will get me to change my mind. For those that like it, I'm glad you got your second season, but its just not for me.

The gadgets ruin the whole premise of MacGyver, as we knew it. Simpler foreplay is much better for macgyverism climaxes, plain & simple. If there's no communications gadgets, then we get rid of a lot of filler garbage and get much closer to the original.
I had this conversation with my cousin, the other night. She just moved to a neighborhood with her two kids. I turned and asked one of her children if they new anyone in the new 'hood. But she intercepted with an 'are you serious look' .... and said 'you don't need to know or live in the neighborhood of friends in this social media age!" Oh!
..... same with MacGyver, you don't really need macgyverisms as much in this perpetually 'connected' time ... and if/when you do, you'd better make it at least look like they're really, really warranted and so as to create some sweaty palms and consternation in the viewer - or you've failed miserably !!!!!!

I don't think an animated series would help. The problem with the reboot isn't the cast, it's the writing and the presentation. Lucas Till has the potential to be a good MacGyver, but the writers need to give him better material and more personality. George Eads is fine as an actor, but the writers need to tone him down a bit. As for the stories in the reboot, they're fine, but they're often undermined by a cheap presentation style. Unless an animated version had a team of better writers, it would have the same problems that the existing reboot has (in fact, it would run the risk of being worse than the reboot since cartoons tend to show an exaggerated version of reality. We'd probably end up with over-the-top scenes of Mac flying through the air, hanging on to a missile or something equally absurd.)
Anyway, I assume bringing back RDA to do the voice would be an attempt to appeal to the original fans, but many of the original fans are now adults, so it's unlikely they would want to watch a cartoon. Kids would be the ones watching it, and they wouldn't really care so much who was doing the voice.

I'm not sure about an animated series either. They usually don't last long.
But I am open to an open world game though in GTA style. Just cruising through L.A. with the Jeep and do several jobs and assignments for Phoenix overseas or in the labs, or go to the ice rink for an in-game hockey match or the woods to go hiking and climb a mountain or a hill and do some camping, helping out in the Challenger's Club. Just imagine the possibilities of such a game.

Don't forget, it's airing on friday 'loser' night. Hmm, now who's gonna be @ home on Friday night waiting for the next MacGyver Episode? THE DATELESS & DESPERATE! So ...... you assemble a ragtag team to appease that demographic. You've got sexually frustrated Jack, and the ' I like her but don't know how to get her' Bozer, and Mac's the bate/tease for all the dateless women, throw in the new boss with her physical challenges and you've get the usual Friday Night suspects tuned up & dialed in. Doesn't matter if it's anything like the old one, this is a different century and the number #1 stipulation, first & foremost, is to pump the tires of your target audience.

I'm not talking about some Disney ripoff kiddy show. I'm talking CGI or Anime. Both hugely popular with my generation, and today's generation. A lot of these types of animation are not for little kids.
In fact, many popular Animes are being turned into live action movies, including Ghost in the Shell and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Capcom also did a few full-length CGI movies based off their Resident Evil video game franchise... mostly to show off their animation capabilities.
If it's a seriously animated show, or movie with RDA reprising his role... yes, I think that would make a lot of people happy. =P

But the problem is still that the writing needs to be better. The sound of RDA's voice is not enough to compensate for bad writing. And if they have access to better writing, then I'd prefer that they use it on a live-action series (even if it means not getting RDA's voice.)
