When Tommy is escaping into the mountains to try and help, a small bit of his jacket tears off onto a tree branch. MacGyver later sees it, but the branch that the torn piece is on looks entirely different.

When the plane crashed there was mention that the radio was on fire and it obviously didn't work after the crash since they would have used it to call in a rescue chopper. When Mac is flying near the end of the show his voice is narrating the plan to land. He says something to the effect of "now all I have to do is radio the tower and have them put down some foam for the landing." All I could think was, the radio doesn't even work so how was he going to do that? Not to mention, I had a hard time believing that the landing would have went very well with that sled as part of the landing gear (foam or not). Think about it, they took off in a trough of mud, not just a field of mud. The trough was necessary to stabilize the front during takeoff.

when MacGyver is talking about punching out the wrong kid for stealing his SAK from his school locker, i doubt ANY school allows kids to bring knives to school and I doubt a young MacGyver would risk being expelled for bringing it to school.

True but we're talking about school back in the 70's so I don't think having a pocket knife at school was an expelling offense and we know MacGyver wasn't' above breaking rules he didn't agree with - it's only illegal if you get caught.

Interesting point though. smile.gif

Carrying a pocket knife in school was a common occurance when I was in jr/sr high in the eighties. I normally had one in my backpack at school...it was just part of your everyday tool kit that you carried - pencil/paper/calculator/SAK sak.gif .

I think it only became a problem after the mid 90's at my high school....then again, it was also a rural community in Michigan and most of the kids took Nov 15th off to go deer hunting.

After the pilot has a heart attack and they crash MacGyver buries the pilot. Why? People are going to be searching for you and or you have to make your own way out. You wouldnt bury the pilot like youre never gonna be found again.

But you can't carry the pilot out and since it's summer time the body would start rotting pretty fast in the heat and attract animals into your camp - not to mention the stink of rotting meat.

So burying it was in fact a smart move. You can always dig it up once your found or get back to civilization.

one would think youd expect to be found within a day or so prior to the body starting to decomp. There was a search party out immediatly after they went down. I think it was a little premature to bury the pilot IMMEDIATLY after the crash when for all you know you are gonna be rescued within a few hours.

No there wasn't.

The search stared the following day when Pete said "I don't like it they were due back yesterday." and the other guy said "we'll start with a broad sweep of the area"

Also after MacGyver finished burying the pilot the kids ask him "what now?" And MacGyver said "First we'll find some food and shelter and then [b]hope]/b] a search party starts looking for us." so he didn't seem to have much hope of a quick rescue.

True.

Also one would assume that the pilot had family who would want the body back, as well as the police wanting to examine the body for cause of death etc.

They also would have buried the pilot to prevent scavengers and other wild animals from coming around, such as vultures, wolves, and mountain lions.

Funny no one else noticed this, but in the scene were Mac drives off the mountain lion, during it's retreat you can see a woman's head briefly peaking out from behind the rocks in the upper right hand corner of the screen. She's behind the "waterfall" Mac made and you may miss her if you blink. I'm guessing this was a handler for the cat, but could just as well been part of the film crew.

I'd post a pic but my disc drive isn't working correctly at the moment.

I was watching this ep today and remembered to take a screen capture of the "cougar lady" behind the rock. I suppose it could also be a dude with long hair, but since you really can't see their face in any detail, I'll just assume.

They don't look like much more than a blob in this image, but if you watch the scene in motion it's clearly a person.

What happened to Cavanaugh, the social sciences professor doing a poor job with the kids that Mac replaced? He was enraged that he was being "replaced" with Mac by Pete, and stormed off, but we never learn what became of him.

To me this seemed like a bit of a plot hole. Since they were in the wilderness, he couldn't just leave on his own. Did the pilot fly him back separately?

Update: nevermind, re-watched on Netflix, the guy says he'll "send the pilot back on Friday"

One thing which really stood out in this episode which I don't think I've noticed before was the fake background in the internal scenes. It's quite a bad painting of a forest.

You're making me curious. I've seen this episode many a time, and never saw what you describe. Which is odd, if it is as bad as you say it is.
Oh well. I guess I'll have to go watch it yet again. Pffff.

Okay. I've watched it and couldn't for the life of me find the fake mountains you describe. The only scenes that are shot inside (apart from the intro) are with Pete and the rescue squad. All I saw there were vague shadows behind the blinds. Is that what you are referring to, Kiwi?

Sorry. Forest. Yep, looks pretty fake. Although I still wonder why they would fake it, being outside all the time.

Actually, it would have been in the 60's.

When Mac was making the flume to direct the water toward the cougar, he turned the tree bark over and knocked the debris out of it but when he set it down on the ground it contained a bunch of dry leaves and such.
