Just watched "The Road Not Taken" again. In the first 3 minutes of the episode, Mac and Pete are dropped off from a helicopter after leaving Thailand. Clad in military fatigues, they both scamper away from the helicopter, toward the camera, as the chopper takes off.

As they clear camera view, Pete seems to stumble uncontrollably, but leaves camera view before we can see if he recovered. However, it was a pretty BIG stumble. So big, you can even see the expression change in Dana Elcar's face as it happens.

Take a look. Does it look to you like he ate dirt after getting out of camera view? I backed it up and rewatched it several times, and I think he went splat. Made me chuckle a bit. What do you think?

It looks like he just kinda cleared and thought he was out of camera view. It didn't look like he tripped or anything, maybe a slight stumble. If you want to watch Pete actually go "splat", you should watch Survivors...

I think theres lot's of little clues about MacGyver's past in this episode too. Just little comments like Deborah saying MacGyver's hair is shorter, tells us he was probably a long-haired-lout. And the "still doing huh? making stuff out of nothing." tells us that he's always been like that. That's the two I can think off right off the bat, but I think this is one of the classic and detail rich episodes....

That particular exchange merely tells us that (a) his hair used to be longer and (b) her hair used to be shorter. It tells us absolutely nothing else about their respective pasts.

I can honestly say I feel for Pete in that one Jedi!!

I kind of liked that Sister Margaret and Debra (Deborah) stuck to their chosen path in life.

Then again, not totally understanding why anyone would choose becoming a nun instead of getting back with Mac. Not understanding that bit at all.

I mean, if it were a straightforward choice between Mac and God, then yeah, I can see the sense of not offending an omnipotent being. But if she and MacG.gif got married, she would be able to have both.

Good episode with some fun setpieces (the tunnel), if a bit of a step-down after Jack of Lies. The thing about Jack of Lies is plot seemed to match character all the way through, raising the stakes in dynamic ways, forcing the characters into illuminating predicaments.

In The Road not Taken here, the narrative seems to get either too straigthforward (the whole cat-and-mouse chase - Chanthara had enormous potential as a villain but comes a little short) or a little too forcefully twisty (Pete/Arnaud side-plot) after a while.

Good thing the character dynamics are so engaging and believable.
