Ed Gantner
Michael Lerner

Ed Gantner worked for the government agency responsible for recruiting MacGyver for various freelance operations. He offered MacGyver the rescue mission at the http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/kiva.html, a highly classified underground research facility in http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/bannon.html, after a mysterious explosion destroyed the facility leaving at least 20 people unaccounted for, including 2 Nobel prize candidates, http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/c42.html and http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/c43.html. In spite of Gantner describing the odds of success, on a scale from 1 to 10, as minus three, MacGyver accepted the mission and Gantner accompanied him to the KIVA labs where he joined director http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/c40.html and chief of operations http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/c47.html on the main level where they monitored MacGyver's progress, via a 2-way communication radio, as he attempted to rescue the scientists and stop an acid leak which threatened the water supply for the southwest.

Hard to judge this guy really since he was only in 1 episode and no background or history was given for him. Seems like he was just the forerunner of the Pete Thornton character.

Yeah you're right. He was just a flat character there to serve a purpose in the story line. Although he did seem to have known MacGyver for quite a while and had real concern for him, so that was, at least, a little depth to him.

I'm inclined to agree with you about him being the early version of Pete Thornton.

I still remember Michael Lerner in Godzilla (1998) playing the mayor of NYC with a flare for candy. biggrin.gif
